The latest work from Dutch composer Michel Banabila. The music is created mainly from electrical sources, but the approach is not clinical, rather mechanical, loud, intrusive, but also has a distinct human factor to it. It is clearly Banabila doing the engineering here, obviously enjoying his new 'mad scientist' incarnation. Some of the recordings arose from earlier mix-versions of tracks originally made for the dance performance ZOUT, by Conny Janssen Danst & Anne Soldaat. Unlike previous Banabila albums, there is very little of the so-called 'world music', voice samples or jazz influences, but instead a mainly electronic angle, with a special contribution by sound-artist/performer Zenial (AudioTong, Vivo Records). 40mins of music. A form of message sent from the Earth to the brightest star, composed of 20 exclusive tracks prepared especially for this compilation. Sirius is the canine planet, the brightest star of the northern sky. Known since the ancient times, it has left an imprint on forming outlooks, beliefs, religious centres in many cultures. Even the ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as a deity, built their calendar on Sirius' cycle closely connected to the Nile tides before the summer solstice. In the 20th century the interest in the magical aspect of Sirius did not die out. Thanks to the Discordian groups with R.A. Wilson (the great philosopher to whom the compilation is dedicated) and T. Leary at the head, it is still being revived. The music on the album oscillates between psychedelic drone, dark ambient, tribal and down-tempo. Some of the projects approach the theme in the vein of ritualistic music; others realise their ideas through the sounds of universe and deep dark infinite space. A tribute to one of the darkest painters of the 20th Century, released on the 2 year anniversary of his death in 2005. As his paintings were never titled, all tracks are unnamed as well. Special, exclusive, Dark Ambient tracks, inspired by the Polish artist from: Asmorod, Contemplatron, Desiderii Marginis, Gustaf Hildebrand, His Divine Grace, Hybryds, Inade, Job Karma, Kratong, Necrophorus, Svartsinn and Zenial. Limited to 750 hand-numbered copes in an outsized fold-out sleeve with a promo card for each artist, each featuring a replica of Beksinski's works. Highly recommended!
Zenial's first album in 6 years shows his creativity in the context of live activity. It does not mean that 'Connection Reset By Peer' is a live album as such. Yes, the source material for the record was recorded live during sonic experiments and creating sound installations over the past few years. The album is not a compilation though... it's a well-weighed entity, thematically and sonically coherent. 'Connection Reset By Peer' is a result of interferences of environmental sounds based to a large extent on electricity, radio feedback, electromagnetic field sounds emitted by current generators and elements of the so-called field recordings. 6-panel digipak.
