BJ Nilsen has been recording deep experimental music since the early 90’s with darkness as his best companion. He released legendary stuff for Cold Meat Industry as Morthound, which drifted into his Ash International and Touch works as Hazard and nowadays as BJ Nilsen. He is now focusing on the power of sound and the sound of nature and its effects on humans. London-based percussionist Z’EV is a true legend from the underground. He was one of the key operators of Industrial culture (1978-1984). The atmospheric impact of this collaboration is massive. Their genius is the power of drone and the beauty of trance. They build dark atmospheres that are at the same time disturbing, meditative and enjoyable. Digipak.

BOYD RICE & Z'EV - 'Untitled' 12" (Cold Spring CSR105EP)
This stunning 12" brings together two long-time San Francisco friends and legends of the Industrial music scene, both active since the late 70s! Boyd Rice is well-known for his project NON and for his collaborations with Death In June, Rose McDowall and Coil to name but a few. Z'EV is a prolific composer and conceptual artist, who utilises metal percussion and electronics to create mystical rhythmajik - and who is also known for his collaborations with hard-hitters such as Stephen O'Malley, Oren Ambarchi, Psychic TV, KK Null, Organum and many more. Two lengthy and exclusive tracks! Ltd x 1000 copies on marbled vinyl.
Certain musicians names speak for themselves, before even a note of music has been played. Their reputations proceed them, although of course there will also be those ignorant of both reputation and name. David Maranha - solo or with Osso Exotico - explores the territories opened up half a century ago by John Cale and Tony Conrad. Z'EV is the grandmaster of industrial / tribal percussion. The fusion they create together is a magma of movement and stasis before which only legless cripples will remain motionless. Recorded live at ZDB, Lisbon in 2010. Presented in a 6-panel outsize sleeve.
HERBST9 Vs Z'EV - 'Through Bleak Landscapes' CD (Loki Foundation)
With this stunning collaboration the dark cavernous drones and ethnic-ritual instrumentation of Herbst9 melts with the complex and percussive sounds of industrial pionier and master of rhythmajik Z'EV. Ten tracks of deep spheres and blazing ruminant lightnings abducting you into golden constellations and swirling worlds full of aural effects and demonic resonance. Both projects worked with raw material of each other while the final mix was made by Herbst9. The result is a sombre and meditative soundtrack. An impressive and gripping journey through bleak landscapes and abandoned places accompanied by a 24-page booklet.
LNGTCHE - 'Music For An Untitled Film By T. Zarkkof' CD (Etude Records)
The debut album from this project is an obscure piece for the widely unknown Russian auteur T. Zarkkof. A 44:22 minute long soundtrack of dark isolation, drones and exploration of ambient music, blending electronic soundscapes with the sound of raw guitar. A beautiful, haunting and darkly complex work packaged in an exclusive triptych panel with brilliant artwork by SELDON HUNT (also known for his artwork for Sunn O))), Earth, Troum, Neurosis, Z'EV etc).
MERZBOW & Z'EV - 'Spiral Right / Spiral Left' CD (Cold Spring CSR133CD)
In the planning (and many faxes, emails and discussions in person) for 20 years, finally this stunning collaborative release for Cold Spring from Japanese Noise king Merzbow and legendary elemental sound artist Z'EV is here. The tracks were created in London and Tokyo, with each artist remixing the other's original sounds. Two tracks weighing in at 22 minutes and 28 minutes respectively! Dark Ambient Noise in a special textured card digisleeve.
Following "Tinnitus Vu" (Touch, 2004), "Tocsin" is the first full length album by these two renowned sound artists. Whereas Z'EV simply reworked already existing work by Jackman for "Tinnitus Vu", this time the artists agreed to both meet in the studio for "Tocsin". They created and recorded sounds from a piano and a stainless steel piece built by Z'EV circa 1989, over the course of several hours, took the recordings home, and after a period of each one mixing these sounds by themselves came up with what can be heard on this CD. Two distinctively different works by both artists which form a multilayered and fascinating album. Design by Jonathan Coleclough. Edition of 600 copies in full colour 4 panel digisleeve.

RAMONA PONZINI & Z'EV - 'Ankoku' CD (A Silent Place)
Ramona's personal touch is certainly her own particular Japanese chant, together with the use of traditional percussion, bells and cymbals from Japan. Z'EV, enchanted by all those elements, asked Ramona for this cooperation. "Ankoku" is a Japanese word which means "deep darkness". For this debut Ramona's voice and percussion was processed by My Cat Is An Alien in their mysterious studio, placed somewhere in Western Alps, adding some field recordings. Those recordings were then sent to Z'EV who has processed them with some of his typical percussion. Z'EV deconstructed the sweetness of Ramona's chants, enfolding the pieces with a darker atmosphere. 5 obscure tracks, structured on charming vocal melodies moving out from a "haunted house". Digifile.

Z'EV & HATI - 'Heart Of A Wolf' 2 x CD (Zoharum)
One of the most interesting and promising albums this year. Ritual sounds and a mystical atmosphere, which infected those present on their Torun gigs, were captured and transferred perfectly on 'Heart Of A Wolf'. This is the second collaborative album by the industrial legend Z'EV and Hati, the Polish duo from Torun, but it's the first one showing their interaction on stage during their 3rd Polish tour in May 2011. The tour itself was the continuation and development of their new sound project initiated by the joint gig on Unsound Festival in New York Labs in April 2011. This double set also includes the recording of their Gdansk gig and is limited to 423 copies in a stunning 6-panel digipak.

Z'EV - 'Forwaard' CD (Korm Plastics)
For almost forty years Z'EV has been at the absolute forefront of experimental music. Throught playing percussive ritual music he gained a lot of well-earned attention, but in more recent years he has returned to working with electronic tape manipulation. On 'Forwaard' he uses field recordings made by Frans De Waard, which are 'recoded' by Z'EV into a 40-minute, densely layered pattern of musique concrete. Many of the water-like sounds disappear in the recoded version and makes a particularly strong work. Outsized sleeve.
Since the late 70's underground music movement in Southern California, Z'EV has made his name as one of the most unique musicians out there. In how he sees his boundaries, he is as punk as any. His musical creativity is boundless and as the sounds he creates are truly "free" from all labels, classification, and direction. There are composers that have also attatined this level with their art, but there is only one Z'EV. "Outer Bounds Of Sound" is an experimental LP series from Noiseville. Each release is pressed in an edition of just 300 copies with a hand-made cover. US import.

Z'EV - 'Outwaard' CD (Korm Plastics)
Beginning with the 2007 release 'Forwaard', rhythmajikal percussionist Z'EV continues his collaborations with Frans De Waard in the form of the latest installment, 'Outwaard'. Whereas the sound sources used on 'Forwaard' where of a varying nature, on 'Outwaard' they were all made at a petting zoo in Kleve, Germany. These recordings which are 'recoded' by Z'EV into a 40-minute, densely layered pattern of musique concrete. Many of the animal call like sounds disappear in the 'recoded' version and makes a particular strong work, but occasionally one returns and leaves a no less than haunting listening experience. Ltd x 300 in outsized sleeve.
Through an element darkly... In the fall of 2005 Z'EV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce 'sum things / a possible form for cold dark matter', a project reflecting his take on the 'dark ambience' genre. Composed between December 2005 and March 2006, these 6 pieces endeavour to transport the listener deep into their long forgotten memories of the primal forces at the dawn of creation. Each piece is based on a single sound source. Absolutely no effects of any kind, not even equalization, were applied to the source recordings. Instead Z'EV relied solely on the stretching of the duration and pitch of the samples and then edited and mixed the results down into the heart of space. Hear then, the state of the art in elemental musics. Not to forget the beautiful packaging by artist Abby Helasdottir.
Released in conjunction with a concert on the 11th November 2006 at the Lagerhaus in Bremen. This CD features exclusive tracks by Industrial music legend Z'EV and New York based percussionist and multi media artist David Linton, who has worked with among others Lee Ranaldo, Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, Diamanda Galas, Christian Marclay and Elliot Sharp. Each artist appears with a solo track plus a remix of the other artist.
Four exclusive tracks, released in conjunction with a live performance at the 'Lagerhaus' Bremen, April 2004. Record One features two very dynamic untitled tracks by legendary 'industrial' percussionist Z'EV, while record Two features 'Zerfall_Gebiete' a new collaborative project by Thomas Köner and Ulrich Krieger (Zeitkratzer / Text Of Light with Lee Ranaldo). The two atmospheric tracks mark the very beginning of their mutual work and are a promise of more great work to come. Ltd x 500 handnumbered copies on thick vinyl in a very smart textured fold out sleeve.
