'The Disappearing Act EP' starts out with two short, sharp shocks of mashed-up sound, sudden jolts of electricity and the worrying rush of what sounds like toxic gas escaping from a canister. The final track is one 15 minute fade up of unbearably caustic jet engine whine. It'll have you pinned back in your armchair while your face gets pummelled by its horribly intense power. Digipak.
The ultimate East coast / West coast soundclash as Oregon’s Yellow Swans and Brooklyn’s Mouthus present a smouldering document from their onstage interactions on their 2006 US tour. The sound of Mouthus’s splat&clatter percussion and sheets of severely altered guitar and voice noise paired with Yellow Swans’ raucous axe-mangling and sublime noise processing make for a gargantuan oil tanker of sound that can’t avoid enveloping the listener. ‘Live On Conan Island’ is a range of monstrous caverns of free electro skronk, alt-percussion and wailing guitars. Doomed, desperate prog-rock flailings decay into hollow purgatories of dimly pulsing ambience, only to re-erupt into percussion firestorms and experimental electricity. A rather appropriate unearthing takes place on this record, as Yellow Swans are posthumously paired up with Chicago's Oakeater. First up is Yellow Swans, with a single side-long track that should please fans of their later, brighter more psychedelic sound as well as those of the more rigid, structured and even melodic sound found on their final LP. Masterfully mixing huge guitars, shards of mixer feedback and discreet loops. Oakeater on the flip side performs the funerary rights with three tracks that fall somewhere between a satanic ritual and a cosmic synth trip, with meditative vocals, throbbing synthesizers, and distant piano lines. Comes packaged in a custom offset silver ink on black linen paper. Black vinyl with silver on black center labels in an edition of 500 copies.
