Formed in 2006, Mancunians GNOD started their last European tour by spending a couple of days in the Studio Chaudelande, a small house made of bricks and passion, somewhere in the Normandy countryside in France. THEODOR BASTARD - 'Beloe: Hunting For Fierce Beasts' CD (Twilight Records)
Theodor Bastard is one of the most successful contemporary Russian music collectives, working between genres that can be defined as world music, darkwave and trip-hop. The trademark of the band is the unique voice of Yana Veva and unique sound-production of Fedor Svolotch. Yana Veva has a rare vocal timbre and she uses a special vocal technique that refers to Arabic and Indian vocal tradition. This disc differs from the other works by this band - concerning aesthetics and sound: most of the compositions are far from the oriental theme, that’s been typical for the band, and from the “dark” direction often attributed to the musicians. "Beloe" ('whiteness' in Russian) is about inner purification - the struggle with demons in all of us. The album is in Russian and filled with Russian folk motives and various ethnic percussion. WOLF & WINTER - 'When The Cold Earth Rests In Silence' CD (Twilight Records)
Wolf & Winter's second album is still in the vein of their first album's raw black metal, but moves a step forward into depressive black metal, combining ambient strings and bombastic drums from the first pagan metal and using a grimmer repertoire of black metal vocals. Not quite post black metal, it uses some elements of this genre to combine the first age of Bathory and Hellhammer with Ulver, Burzum and even Agalloch. To stand in the roots of primitive and raw music is why this second album does not completely move forward into a more modern concept of black metal, but this doesn't mean it's stuck in the past. This way, the music gains more solidness and independence in a genre which has been so done, so constructed, so reconstructed and at last, so repeated. Digipak.
