Arkhonia ARKHONIA - 'Trails / Traces' CD (White Box)

Arkhonia's "Trails/Traces" fulfils the much promised, but seldom delivered, remit of large portions of ambient music - "to take the listener on a journey". From the deep rumblings of the album's opener to the final decaying notes and crackles of its closing track, all manner of mood-shifting experimentation directs (and occasionally derails) the listener along a sonic path that is at times unnerving and, at others, warmly welcoming. Each piece leads neatly into the next and one would not suspect that this album was assembled from material produced over the span of the last decade - the production values on display in the oldest pieces are qualitatively indistinguishable from the most recent and all are invested with a luscious, finely honed depth of texture. Slow-burning drone constructions for fans of Andrew Chalk, Thomas Koner, Machinefabriek and Alva Noto.

Illusion Of Safety / Thomas Köner / 7inch ILLUSION OF SAFETY & THOMAS KONER - 'Untitled' 7" (Die Stadt)

Great split release from Chicago's stalwart post-Industrial ensemble Illusion Of Safety and Germany's dronecore specialist Thomas Köner. Illusion Of Safety takes a confrontationist approach by opening their condensed program with a jarring clatter of fragmented film-noir orchestrations that are roughly broken into a nervous drone. Köner's approach is far more subtle, gently pushing forward a sublime drone and allowing it to fade into silence. Released on the occasion of a rare performance that took place on 19 September 2002 at the Lagerhaus, Bremen. Regular edition of 400 copies.

Kontakt Der Jünglinge / Thomas Koner KONTAKT DER JUNGLINGE - '0' CD (Die Stadt)

This is the second part of the ongoing series of live performances (numbered backwards) by Kontakt Der Jünglinge - the collaborative project of renowned sound sculptor's Thomas Köner and Asmus Tietchens. '0' was recorded inside the M.S. Stubnitz, a ship situated in the harbour of Rostock, Germany. Much more 'basic' in the use of sounds than their first CD '1', the 43 minute long track creates a more dense and dark atmosphere with occasional rhythmic additions, seeming to reflect the space it was recorded in. Ltd x 900 regular copies in a card sleeve.
