Another release to celebrate 15 years of Megaptera! "Exended Chaos" consists of two old releases, "Near Death" and "Beautiful Chaos". "Near Death" (cassette, Sound Source 1991) was Megaptera's first official release and is the only release with all 3 members (Peter Nyström, Magnus Pettersson, Mikael Svensson). Using drum machine, various synths, movies, TV, radio and microphone they created a totally analogue and dirty death theme. On this CD, 3 bonus tracks are added from the same period. Get prepared for old school! "Beautiful Chaos" (MCD, Fever Pitch 1998), has been extended to 10 tracks. The extra material is the two classic tracks 'Shadowland' and 'Sodom' from the "Death Odors" compilation, the two tracks from the "In the Buchers Backyard" compilation, a bombastic remix of the apocalyptic 'Final Day' (by The Protagonist) and an extended version of 'Shadowland', remixed by Peter Nyström and Magnus Sundström. The sound of "Beautiful Chaos" is structured and heavy with an "end of the world" theme, using sampled and mixed sounds. Mastered by Magnus Sundström. "Våld de Luxe" is a comprehensive overview of the complete Negru Voda sound, combining a slew of new recordings, coupled with a collection of out of print, completely re-mastered works, including the full length "Dark Territory" CD (Old Europa Cafe, 1998), plus 3 bonus tracks, as well as the des Esseintes split 10" (Fin de Siecle, 2001) and the AVA: (dunk) picture 7" (Formosan, 2002). THE PROTAGONIST - 'A Rebours' CD (Rabbau)
'A Rebours’ is named after the 1884 novel by Joris-Karl Huysmans - a very important piece of literature, a landmark of symbolist aestheticism, materialistic decadence, and of language itself. The debut album from The Protagonist (Magnus Sundström) was originally issued by Cold Meat Industry in 1998. The sheer power of the orchestral, cinematic, imaginative pieces, the obviously talented compositions are all too convincing. Various guests on the (mostly spoken) vocals and playing additional instruments, mostly strings add depth and variation to the album’s tracks. A sense of romanticism prevails, with some tracks driven by military style kettle drums and orchestral complexity. Others appear more subdued and introspective. 13 years after the original release, this album seems to have matured instead of aged, and is now revealed to a new generation of listeners, and to those who missed it the first time around.
