AELTER - 'Dusk-Dawn / Follow Your Beloved' 2 x CD (Crucial Blast)
One of several side-projects to emerge from the Wolvserpent camp, Aelter is the solo effort of Wolvserpent guitarist Blake Green. Aelter explores a similar realm of dark majestic sound to Wolvserpent, with massive downtuned guitar roar and bleak minor key melodies being the common thread between the two projects. But where Wolvserpent blends this chugging Melvins-esque heaviness and haunting slowcore arpeggios with violins, pounding drums, and a propensity for extended hypno-dirges, Aelter dispenses with the drums almost completely and goes for a more cinematic approach using layered keyboards and gorgeous harmonised voices, fused to a malevolent black heaviness. Both of the Aelter albums were only released on vinyl in limited editions of a few hundred copies, but have now been gathered together in a double disc set and presented in a double digipak.

ALLGRENA - 'Ursprung' CD (Erdgut)
"Allgrena is a project run by Austrian composer Franz Nigl circulating in spheres between ambient and industrial. Present album is the second effort from Allgrena, the first being "Tonrader" released on the same label in 1999. An important part of the textures is field recordings of metal-objects and similar industrial noises and drones. Favourite moment is the atmospheric piece titled "Wachsende ringe" that opens with dramatic flute-like high-freq sounds followed by echoed male speaks with distorted guitar and crushing noise-drones operating in the deeper levels. Generally the composer has a great balance between atmospheric textures and quite brutal moments of noise with elements of power electronics" (Vital Weekly).

ANBB - 'Mimikry' CD (Raster Noton)
Being friends and admirers of each other's work for a long time, electronic music composer / visual artist Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai) and composer / voice artist Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten / Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds) decided to join forces to initiate a collaborative project in 2007. Together they developed a musical concept combining improvisation and abstraction. Working on their own experimental material that gains its strength from the spontaneity of the live-performance of Bargeld’s voice as well as rethinking traditional songs in their own special manner, they deliver an outstanding and inspiring musical blend for their audience. Mimikry readopts two original tracks and two alternative versions from the "Ret Marut Handshake" EP, while also introducing six completely new songs. The CD comes with a special 16 page booklet presenting original text / drawings of Blixa Bargeld that developed during the recordings.

ANTLERS MULM - 'Of Withered Sparks' CD (Loki Foundation)
The third album of Antlers Mulm opts for deep resonating tones that are harmonious and hypnotic with a greater emphasis on percussion, and the massive foray into song based structures. Dark beats linked with electro-pop vibes bring highlights of an extraordinary world of sound. Phantasmagorial melodies melt into an intense atmosphere guided by the voice of Hans Johm. These 10 songs catch the mood of the warm feeling of being at home and create a landscape of a coruscant kingdom that lies deep within the lyrical and musical expression. Digipak with booklet.
ARCHON ORCHESTRA - 'Pong' CD (Shadowplay Release / Muzyka Voln / Monopoly Records)
The CD cover of this band's debut album shows a collage with a fragment of a Renaissance painting on which biblical saints look at the "sky" above them and see the game "Pong" being played there (a cult arcade game from 1972, first game by Atari). What could this marvellous picture mean? Let the listener decide. The main instrument on this CD is the organ, in fast mechanical sequences, typical for the Berlin school of electronic music. Simple compositional structure meets vivid expression, liturgical atmosphere and a sublime metaphysical line running through the whole concept of the project. Archon Orchestra deal with clearly structured music lying in the intermediate plane between the so called 'holy minimalism' and 'repetitive music'. Recommended for lovers of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley and Recoil ("Hydrology").

ARNICA - 'Numancia' MCD (Ahnstern)
Numancia was a small castro (Spanish for Celtiberian village). The inhabitants of Numancia fought against the Roman Empire for more than 20 years. In 133B.C. Rome sent their best general Escipion to create a siege and destroy Numancia so they could control the entire peninsula. However, when the Romans entered the village, the survivors decided to kill their own children, set their own belongings on fire and end their own lives. If the Empire controlled Celtiberia they could not control their people. Musically Numancia is a invigorating trip from the magnificence of the village to the final decision of choose to die instead of being conquered. Solid drums and ritual elements are mixed with Heathen tunes for the recognizable Ur-Folk sound. All texts are written and sung in Spanish and in the ancient Celtiberian language. Outsize sleeve.

"Concerto No. 6" was inspired by Ataraxia's admiration for the stylistic canons of Baroque music, a music that incessantely pursued an aesthetical-formal elegance that was sometimes the mirror of an inner beauty. A deeply felt tribute to the Music Maestros of the past, a suffered research in the profound meaning of music, a personal homage to the impressive film of A. Corneau "Tous les matins du Monde", a dialogue between our earthly dimension and the ones we belong before being born and after death, an individual contribution to the Baroque harmonies and age, a subtle balance between formal beauty, passion and spontaneity, a singular excursion in the purity of sound. Split release from 3 Russian projects: Bardoseneticcube (St. Petersburg), Vresnit (Yaroslavl) and Kshatriy (Vsevolozhsk). This split is inspired by direct experiences: transformation, birth, and creativity as a natural form of being. Bardoseneticcube present light Ambient with colourful electronic patterns, brightly showing a female, mother nature. Vresnit presents multi-layered psychedelic Drone Ambient with plentiful use of field and found recordings, guitar drones and analogue electronics. Kshatriy presents two powerful space Drone Ambient tracks, showing beauty, harmony and resonance. Also features 2 collaborative tracks. Ltd x 580 hand-numbered copies in a 6-panel outsize sleeve with insert.
This album is inspired by the life and works of Nika Turbina - a poetess who started to write grown-up tragic poems when she was only 4 years old, with her first book printed when she was only 9 (later translated in 12 languages). After living pathologically strange life, receiving the "Golden Lion" prize, and being held in mental hospital, at the age of 27 Nika tragically died falling down from the 5th floor window. CAUL - 'Let The Stars Assume The Whole Of Night' CD (Hypnos)
Caul has released an array of incredible dark, cinematic ambient music. "Let The Stars Assume The Whole Of Night" is a wonderful mix of sounds and atmospheres: dark without being spooky, melodic but not pretty, listenable, but too nervous and somber to ever become predictable. These pieces are more composed and structured than most ambient music, more akin to the soundtrack for some dark and moody piece of cinema. Imagine the score to an undiscovered work by David Lynch or Andrei Tarkovsky and you get the idea. Digipak.
From Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love lost. They've written songs foretelling a dark apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate. With their new album, "Lament", they turn their gaze inward, to their own personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in dismal dissolution. Only by being able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. "Lament" reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers to their families overnight. Also included are new versions of three of Changes' earlier works; "The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia". 13 tracks of Folk Noir. Guests: Der Blutharsch, David E Williams and Axel Frank (Werkraum). Digipak with a 16-page booklet.

CULVER / SEPPUKU - 'Dedicated To Soledad Miranda' CD (At War With False Noise)
First time on CD for both these bands: Culver is the awe-inspiring drone / noise project of Lee Stokoe (Marzuraan, Skullflower). Here he gives us a 30 min+ deluge of harrowing, bassy drone, purveying a sense of crawling dread at what is to come. Soon things get more desperate before being crushed into oblivion by a wall of crushing amplifier noise, which slowly develops into a more sedative shifting tone. Seppuku give two tracks in very different styles... the first is an unbearably heavy doom piece, giving way to some Throbbing Gristle-esque hydraulic pumping before the guitars kick in and everything is laid to waste... heavy duty! The second track sounds very post-industrial power electronics, with walls of bleak static forming the backbone of the track, interspersed with what sounds like post-apocalyptic winds of death, and some distorted lines of screeched vocal. Unpleasant. Ltd x 500 copies.
This 6-track release continues in the same vein as "Wasteland", but is less rhythmic and more deep and meditative, being maybe the most dark and melancholic Cyclotimia release to date. Analogue electronic layers submerge listener to an atmosphere of uneasy hallucinatory reverie. Subtle clear sound and sad melodies unite to create the unique mix of cold psychedelia and soulful grief. Reminds of Controlled Bleeding, Raison D'etre and Reutoff in places. While maintaining a rather personal and reflective nature, the poems invoke a walk though the forest on a wonderful spring day. Being struck by such inspiration Carlos knew at once he should set some of his favourite pieces to music. EMME YA - 'Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems' CD (Cold Spring CSR127CD)
40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya's "Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems" is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the 'smallest and heaviest of all stars' and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or 'the monitors of the universe'.
ERIC LUNDE - 'A World Of Hurt In The Kingdom Of God' CD (HCB Records)
The new admonishment from Eric Lunde (Boy Dirt Car). "A World Of Hurt In The Kingdom Of God" derives its name from a series of engravings Lunde did in 2004, the original title being "A World of Hurt in the Kingdom of Gosh". It is primarily a product of the concerns Lunde has (and expressed in his book "Prison Sex", from which the majority of the text on this album is taken from) with the latent cruelty of humans in regards to their alleged relationship with a fabricated supernatural being and how is it that religious people have to prove nothing, but the atheist ones have to prove everything. So what's there to be found in Lundes' dragnet this time regarding these issues? A dish of sober mischief noise served cold, bubonic industrial and irate sound poetry created in the detrimental corners of the mind where the proof reproduces the intimate bonds of brutality that men create between themselves.

Michael Begg (Fovea Hex) with very special guest appearances by Julia Kent (Antony & the Johnsons, Blind Cave Salamander), Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo (Blind Cave Salamander, Larsen), David Tibet (Current 93) and Clodagh Simonds (Fovea Hex). At once beautiful, melancholic, slightly bruised and foreboding, the music here never fails to captivate.

ILLUSION OF SAFETY - 'Bridges Intact' CD (Waystyx)
An album recorded preliminary with piano, guitar, electronics and sound processing devices. Abstract tonal and atonal improvisations share the sonic continuum with background drones, rasps and gentle noises, and they do it in highly unpredictable surreal way: mild "melodies" turn into energetic uneasy passages being interrupted by "concrete" sonic romp evolving into spatial drone and electronic landscapes... and all this whirl continues during the whole CD increasing the degree of abstractness and psychedelia as it moves towards the end, which is presented in a form of beautiful harmonic composition. Ltd x 324 numbered copies in a stunning multi-foldout package.
IN SCHERBEN - 'Dort An Jenem Baume...' CD (Lichterklang)
In Scherben's third album is not just the result of their acquired musical maturity, but an affectionate commitment to the concept of "Heimat", which can be experienced in their lyrics and in their musical interpretations of poems by Eichendorff, Nikolaus Lenau and Gottfried Benn. A romantically idealised understanding of 'homeland' and its cultural and social origins is transformed into a groundbreaking declaration of love, dedicated to one's own roots. In Scherben's musical versatility and sparkling instrumentation is far from being restricted to clichés of the genre, but open up new horizons of classically inspired Neofolk, in the tradition of Forseti or Dies Natalis. Second album from Belgian Drone synthscaper Hans Dens, following up the highly acclaimed "Future Life" LP. IRM - 'Indications Of Nigredo' LP (Segerhuva)
On the theme of alchemy and the topics of shame vs. bodily self infliction, IRM makes way for a new start after the inspired “Virgin Mind” double-disc set from 2005. These are new Power Electronics / Industrial recordings with the new member Mikael Oretoft joining on bass. Two long tracks - the first being an intense up-building, deep pulsating number with both spoken and rough vocals, volcanic exaggerated bass noise and doom-laden atmosphere. The second more of an aftermath with its down-spiralling, almost dreamy character of echoing tones, ripping clangs and chilling audio-schmerz. "A caustic soundscape of high end streaks, like howling dogs and balloons being rubber together morphs into a thick fuzzy dirgescape thick with industrial scrapes and warbly organ, like some long lost Dead C jam, then some damaged acoustic guitar beneath a field of buzzing electricity... Apocalyptic doom noise from Israel. KRISTUS KUT - 'Butterfly King' CD (Mind Flare Media)
Seven tracks of dark, ritualistic ambient. This album is built around the concept of sexual liberation, the listener brought along the path starting from 'Cocoon' and ending with 'Vagina Libertatis'. The work starts out minimal, soft and mysterious, slowly building to an energetic combination of tribal sounds and harsh chanting. The artwork features Kristus Kut himself, being led from his cocoon by a gathering of sexually enticing female creatures. MACHINEFABRIEK - 'Weleer' 2 x CD (Lampse)
"This is a collection of recordings culled from 3" CD releases from Dutch musician Rutger Zuydervelt, yet arranged and sequenced in a way that makes it a perfectly flowing listening experience. The warm ambience definitely harks back to some ground level krautworks, but almost every instrument blurs into placid soundscapes that are constantly shifting and evolving, electronic crackles rise out of dark lakes of guitar drone; the sounds are very intimate, immediate, not overwhelmingly dark but definitely indicating Zuydervelt's past as a guitarist in a doom band. With both live instruments and assorted programming, the sheer human emotion injected into a machinated music form is stunning, and the variety of places these tracks go to are timed perfectly to hold the listeners' attention and reveal a seemingly limitless bank of ideas that I can't recall being utilised since the golden days of Seefeel's Polyfusia record. MACHINIST NOISE ASSAULT - 'Self Help' CD (Silken Tofu)
'Self Help' is the first official album by Machinist Noise Assault, culminating after years of dabbling with different styles of drone, noise, and industrial since its inception in 1998. Lyrically, 'Self Help' is a scornful examination of various forms of self abuse / neglect, and severe internal struggle based around the concept of one being one's own worst enemy. Sonically, expect to hear densely layered Power Electronics, standing out from the usual 'Set it and forget it'-style of its peers with less focus being applied to outright abrasiveness, and more being put on texture, development, and atmospheric elements. Mastered by Thomas Garrison (Control). Ltd x 300 copies in a 7" gatefold black card folder with silver print.
"Maleficia is the bay area duo of Andy Way (Orchest, French Radio, Carrion) and Ilysea Viles Sunderman, who crafted this desolate, post-industrial smear of voice, violin, and electronics for the always impressive isounderscore label. With the titles of the two side long pieces being "Making" and "Remaking," Maleficia offers a crucible of elemental sounds being obliterated into a charred dust and rebuilt into ashen constructions of misery and disgust... The industrialized loops that wraps around the voice and violin come across like a slow-motion Maurizio Bianchi on par with the downer records he did with Land Use or the grim power electronic phase in the early '80s. Certainly for fans of Amber Asylum, early Lustmord, and the dark ambient aspects of Broken Flag" (Aquarius). Ltd x 400 copies.
The Italian electronics maestro seems to be still going strong after around 30 years with his latest release. Opener 'Ortini' is like the hazey recollection of a long train journey being put through an analogue filter bank. 'The Inflammatory Sesor' has a kind of feeling of nostalgia or distant memory that recalls William Basinski or The Caretaker. 'Oigada' sounds like two decomposing tape loops slightly out of sync creating a disorientating phasing effect. There are some very absorbing sounds here to get lost in. One for a late night in near darkness. Ltd x 400 copies in a digipak.

The uneasiness of silence and the absolute void of impenetrable gloom, the infinite and overwhelming distances, the fear of solitude and isolation, the anxiety of no return… And then the emotion of discovery: other worlds, unknown universes and impalpable beings, undefined and unidentifiable entities, close encounters, the unutterable and the unthinkable. MUSIIKKIVYORY - 'Tulemme Sokeiksi' CD (Ektro Records)
"Tulemme sokeiksi" ("We're Becoming Blind") is a retrospective CD by Musiikkivyory ("music avalanche"). In addition to being a curious chapter in the endless saga of the post-punk era, this DIY document is also one of the finer, more elusive threads of the cassette-culture scene. Originally issued in 1981, Musiikkivyory's two tapes were the work of Mika Taanila, a 15-year-old who would grow up to become an internationally acclaimed filmmaker. This CD features the key tracks from those micro-edition recordings. Musiikkivyory's output is typical of the early 80s raw zeitgeist, but with a timeless, teen-anguish twist. Taanila heartily embraces punk's total do-it-yourself ideal, yet his style is light years away from the conventional guitar groups of the day: Atonal riffs, home electronics, randomly cut-up radio sounds, noise and primitive industrial weltschmertz blend into a rough, highly personalised whole.

The Young Elders is a truly stellar cast of musicians who played in folk and avantrock ensembles like Current 93 (Joolie Wood), In Gowan Ring (B'Eirth), Cul De Sac and Damo Suzuki's Network. A mixture of folk ballads, psychedelic folk rock, Middle eastern traditional music and Neofolk. The result being astonishing, challenging and utterly psychedelic. A modern Acid Folk masterpiece! NIKO SKORPIO - 'Escape From Heaven' CD (Some Place Else)
Composed between 2000-2005, the musick could be described as 'industrial', mostly because it pays homage to the early Industrial groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Coil or Psychic TV by being a wide-ranged beast of experimentation including some nice deep dark ambient soundscapes. Escape from Heaven also carries a loose storyline that can be interpreted in occult, mythological, social and personal levels. First offering from the 'Würm Series', based on the world's most recent glaciation (10,000 years ago) and asking each artist to describe this endless Ice Age. "When I’ve been asked to describe the Ice Age with an uninterrupted drone, I knew I wanted to avoid the cliches of the genre: dark rumblings, massive low frequencies, cold atmospheres. I had to describe with sounds the white landscape, the blinding light reflected by the frozen oceans, the abyssal silence. I have imagined myself in flight over this Sleeping Earth, a solitary winged-being surrounded by winds, air, water and ice. This led me to compose an airy drone with minimal variations and delicate tones, an hommage to a pure, uncontaminated and remote land" (Oöphoi). A singular 65-minute track presented in a digipak. PALE ROSES - 'Fear Of Dawn' CD (The Eastern Front)
Debut album from this French Neofolk act. Ten songs about war, melancholy and the pagan roots of Europe. Two reworked versions of traditional British ballads ('Lord Gregory' and 'Two Ravens') make the album complete. Pale Roses have done their best to keep the instrumentation minimal, stripped down to the core, free of all non-essential arrangements. However, slight variations between songs keep the album from being repetitive. Although Pale Roses are ready to pay their dues to the founders of the Neofolk genre (Sol Invictus, Death In June and Fire+Ice), it is not far off to also mention Nick Drake, Nico or Richard Thompson as influences. PETER BJÄRGÖ - 'A Wave Of Bitterness' CD (Kalinkaland)
The stunning new solo album from Arcana mastermind Peter Bjärgö! The mentor of the Swedish band has put together a Dark Ambient jewel with pale insertions of other styles too, the most visible of these being the Ethno-Ambient sounding percussion resembling Dead Can Dance. It is a replica of what Brendan Perry is doing versus the notorious band he once was part of, that’s how this album can be seen versus the history of Arcana.
"The influence of alcohol and cold weather led me to believe I could cover the entirety of Fleetwood Mac's 'Albatross' by myself with an out-of-tune Telecaster and a loop pedal. I could not. In the art of failing miserably, something new was created" (Michael Tanner, 2009). "Lots of meandering guitars being plucked here and there over some bowed dulcimer, harp and piano. Very tasty indeed.... I'd have to shoe horn the word pastoral in just cos it seems necessary. If you're a fan of the Rusted Rail label's output you'll be quite taken by this album I reckon. It's split into 5 pieces and they all ebb and flow into each other like an ebby flowy thing. Very lovely and atmospheric!!" (Norman Records). Features Aine O'Dwyer on harp, Richard Moult and Nick Palmer on piano alongside various bowed strings and harmonium. Digisleeve.
A tasteful combination of improvised thrash noise / metal by Pymathon (Topias Tiheäsalo and Jaakko Tolvi - the former known for his collaboration with RLW and solo CD, the latter for banging drums in Rauhan Orkesteri) and harsh noise-driven free jazz (not dissimilar to Merzbow in places) by Gentle Evil (Janne Tuomi and Tommi Keränen - the former known for a solo CD and percussion for Circle, the latter for being the other half of Testicle Hazard). Three tracks from Pymathon and a single, long track from Gentle Evil. "Both kick ass, crush skulls and are loud enough to demolish buildings". A solid improv guitar rant for those of a sturdy disposition! Finnish import.
RAPOON - 'Melancholic Songs Of The Desert' CD (Soleilmoon)
"These songs were composed during the last days of the Bush / Blair era and reflect the feeling of isolation and disconnection from any part of the political process and any sense of identification with the prevailing air of hostility and intolerance generated by this pair of religious xenophobes. The unjustified war in Iraq and the subsequent lies and propaganda engendered a feeling of revulsion and powerlessness. Once again it was “unpatriotic” to criticize or protest against the government’s actions, and there was a rise in nationalism and extrem- ist views. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of “walkabout” and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. In a broader sense they also re-affirm long held sympathies with the thoughts of writers and philosophers such as Camus, Sartre and Burroughs, and the profound wisdom of eastern philosophies such as Taoism and Zen. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation" (Robin Storey). Presented in a hand made, screen printed (metallic) card sleeve and limited to 500 copies. ACT FAST!
This Rapoon work has an accent on more dark, hard and anxious sound constructions than most of its recent albums, it is full of tension and scepticism, but with no lack of inner hope though. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. The recordings on "Wild Tracks" were realised using a variety of techniques including using hydrophones to record falling snow, recording gamekeepers many fields away with a parabolic dish, as well as binaural, ‘near-field’ & ‘direct’. Beautiful Neofolk from France. "Lust sweeps of duel acoustics of which the rhythm and melodic chords are clean and crisp, at times shining with a technical flourish. What is almost immediate with the album is the strong ear for subtle melodies that the artists are so obviously gifted with. While residing more in the genre of Neofolk rather than driven martial tones the musical compositions are deft and very well structured. The keyboard adds to lushness of the acoustics and, in places, (the accordion and harmonica are also employed sparingly and appropriately in places) which may have preempted a move to more stripped-back sounds now being explored by some long established Neofolk artists." The conception of of Czech ensemble Skrol arose from the visions of its spiritual father Vladimír Hirsch in autumn 1995, when he was joined by Martina Sanollová-Sweeney and Tom Saivon. Skrol employ original principles of composition, with the added depth of classical influences. Their inspiration derives mainly from Slavic melodic and harmonic systems. "New Laws / New Orders" was originally an instrumental suite of Vladimír Hirsch, created in 2000, later reworked alongside some unreleased pieces from 1996-1999. Skrol's majestic and uncompromising music is based on specific melodiousness and orchestration of contemporary neoclassical music, situated in the arch of industrial ambient and brutalised by noises and modern technological sounds. This album represents the “swan song” of the band, being its last activity. Digipak.
SLEEP RESEARCH FACILITY - 'Dead Weather Machine Re:Heat' CD (Manifold)
There's a good story behind this disc. Why a simultaneous release of two SRF discs so closely related? Originally conceptualised as a 100 copy only disc to go with a special limited edition of Dead Weather Machine, Manifold commissioned Sleep Research Facility to create a single hour-long track of total dark-ambient drift based on the original material. To put it plainly; when we got this master, we were blown away and realized this was too good to let slip into obscurity. It would be a shame to keep this from being available to all people who seek out the best in dark-ambient and drift. Engaging, emotional and worthy of listening to ten years down the road. This is roughly an hour of slowly changing, deep, meditative drift based on the Dead Weather Machine source materials, in a slim, lightweight package. Think of it as a companion disc. So here you are, an option that you really shouldn't pass up. It is unimaginable that anyone that likes dark ambient to not like this one.

SOLANACEAE - 'Solanaceae' CD (Heidrunar Myrkrunar)
Solanaceae is the creation of Danish artist Kim Larsen, which portrays a more psychedelic folk feeling than usually put forth in his Neofolk project Of The Wand & The Moon. However the unmistakable voice and songwriting is still Larsen's, which probably leaves this album as close to an OTWATM album without being that. 13 songs with themes of magick, woods and mysteries, mainly written and performed by Larsen with kind help and appearances by Chelsea Robb (Arrowwood), Pythagumus Marshall (Novemthree), Michael Laird (Unto Ashes), John van der Lieth (Sonne Hagal), Fenella Overgaard (Of The Wand & The Moon), Vincent Farrow (Solblot) and Anne Eltard (who appeared on the first OTWATM album). STORMLOOP - 'Snowbound' CD (Glacial Movements)
Stormloop is electronic / ambient / visual artist Kev Spence from Leeds, England. "Snowbound" is a collection of tracks that was recorded in late December 2009. Deep snow had fallen that stayed for over two weeks. Composing late into the night, watching the heavy snowfall, was the inspiration for these tracks, and the feeling of being lost in some remote cabin, safe but warm, with good food and drink, staring out at the depths of winter snow that covers the land. These crystalline soundscapes take us from the cold winter nights, then out towards the bleakness of space. "Snowbound" is an authentic full-immersion into the cold, and you can really feel the snowflakes on your skin. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.
STRIBORG - 'Mysterious Semblance' CD (Displeased Records)
Cold dark isolated forest black ambient / black metal. "Sin Nanna’s songwriting abilities that are rather well represented on this CD... This CD is just so slow compared to his other projects, that it is worthy of attention for, one, being so different, and, two, for realizing more complex songwriting skills than Sin Nanna has exhibited in any record I have heard yet. I actually believe this is his best album yet" (Brutalism.com). Originally issued on cassette in 2004, this 2008 reissue includes 3 bonus tracks! STRICTA DOCTRINA - 'Stricta Doctrina' CD (Twilight Records)
Stricta Doctrina is a one man project born in summer 2010. Between November 2010 and September 2011, 9 stunning Martial Industrial / Apocalyptic songs were composed. The music is inspired by history, the rise and fall of empires. This is also a critique of the modern society, decay taking more and more place, with a return to tradition in the metaphysic sense being the only remedy to that. For fans of Triarii, Arditi, etc... TELEPHERIQUE - 'Slowmotion' CD (Force Of Nature)
One of Germany's most recognisable names has returned with another ambient masterpiece. "This CD is dedicated to all the people who try to simplify their life in modern times, marked with materialism, business, stress and sickness". The eight tracks have no titles but they are divided into three 'steps', being "Out of balance", "Down shifting" and "Fountain of flow". The whole results in a ritualistic, flowing album with moments of rhythm, ambience and complex soundscapes."
TERRA SANCTA - 'Sunken / Buried / Forgotten' MCD (Malignant Records)
A brand new MCD from Terra Sancta, originally planned as part of the next full length release, but the tracks here are significantly different from the newer material being recorded as to warrant a separate release. "Sunken / Buried / Forgotten" should be seen as a sort of bridge between Terra Sancta's past and future recordings, the three lengthy tracks here representing the heavy droning sound found on particular parts of "Disintegration"; swaths of roughly textured, post-industrial drift, propelled forth with a massive back weight into a crescendo of epic turbulence, leaving a wake of swirling cosmic debris in its path. Once again, Terra Sancta shows an innate ability to push the limits of what is traditionally considered dark ambient. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

Even if it weren't for the cover art of this German duo's brilliant new album, there is unmistakably no other place in the universe that has influenced the sounds and movement of what is represented within. These drones are not passive in the least. The depth and volume are all encompassing, and moving slowly but steadily like an ancient and lonely large whale through the graveyards of shipwrecks... VA - 'From Earth To Sirius' 2 x CD (Zoharum)
A form of message sent from the Earth to the brightest star, composed of 20 exclusive tracks prepared especially for this compilation. Sirius is the canine planet, the brightest star of the northern sky. Known since the ancient times, it has left an imprint on forming outlooks, beliefs, religious centres in many cultures. Even the ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as a deity, built their calendar on Sirius' cycle closely connected to the Nile tides before the summer solstice. In the 20th century the interest in the magical aspect of Sirius did not die out. Thanks to the Discordian groups with R.A. Wilson (the great philosopher to whom the compilation is dedicated) and T. Leary at the head, it is still being revived. The music on the album oscillates between psychedelic drone, dark ambient, tribal and down-tempo. Some of the projects approach the theme in the vein of ritualistic music; others realise their ideas through the sounds of universe and deep dark infinite space. Features: Ah Cama-Sotz, Apocalyptic Visions, Atomine Elektrine, Christblood, Different State, Electric Uranus, Emme Ya, Expo '70, Hybryds, Kallee, Kia Karma, Nordvargr, Ouroboros, Phelios, Rapoon, S.E.T.I., Therion Trismegistos, Unknown Caller, X-NAVI:ET and Zenial. VA - 'Pere-Lachaise' CD (Steinklang / Divine Comedy)
A great compilation of dark and neoclassical music, dedicated to Père-Lachaise cemetery, which is one of the most romantic and mysterious places in this holy world. It's also an unmissable reference in gloomy and cinematic "tragical" culture. This musical journey is depicted by four acts (2 tracks each) from the new emerging Dark-Ambiant and Neo-Symphonic scene: Horologium, Project Winter, Artefactum and Foundation Hope. The mood is dark, menacing and epic at times with Horologium being the most martial act. The CD is packed in a beautiful 7" booklet with images by Fabrice Billard. Art and history beyond the grave.
VELEHENTOR / VISHUDHA KALI / CLOSING THE ETERNITY - 'Ishopanishad' CD (Vegvisir Music)

All music perfomed by 121 & Vishudha Kali (Andrei Bulin / Komarov). Throat singing & Shree Ishopanishad Divine Mantra chanting by Vishudha Kali (Andrei Bulin / Komarov). This album is dedicated to devotees of ancient times, explorers of the Eternity and of the reverse side of being. People are coming and passing away, life is too short, and the secret of Nature is still transcendent - impossible to be understood. Ltd x 976 copies in a foldout card sleeve. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

WANDER - 'Wander' CD (Divine Frequency)
You could be excused for being confused. Like all previous albums the new Wander album for Divine Frequency is entitled "Wander". Blame it on Frans de Waard and Freek Kinkelaar's conceptual sense of humour. You might know these boys from Beequeen, where they combine soundscapes with pop songs. When they feel like a day out they disguise themselves as Wander, and concentrate themselves on organ drones. This album is another step forward; these recordings (mostly created on ancient and dangerous synthesizers and open microphones) take Wander back to the 70's with an open, warm, spacious sound. WOLFSKIN - 'O Ajuntar Das Sombras' CD (Malignant Records)
Originally intended to be a re-issue of Wolfskin's 2001 limited release "The Gather of Shadows by the Setting Sun" (Ajna), this eventually evolved into a re-working of three tracks from that release, complimented by 7 newly recorded tracks. As the Wolfskin era comes to end, this release represents a glimpse into their past… a more organic, flowing ambient record than what you may find today. That being said, it most certainly will go down as one of their more stunning, darker visions; a masterpiece of shadowy atmospheres and drifting currents, featuring multiple layers of archaic sounds, nebulous textures and ritual invocations, perfectly combined to form a release of intense depth and complexity. ZSOLT SORES AHAD - 'Ahad's Master's Garden III (22007 - 2009): The Harmonian Blues' 2 x CD (Fourth Dimension / AudioTong)
A fantastic double CD by Zsolt Sorés (aka Ahad), Budapest-based sound artist and improviser. These two discs capture the prolific and versatile musician in a fully tranced-out fug that draws not only from his background in rock music but also his strong leanings towards the avant-garde and improvisation partly formed by being classically-trained yet never content to remain as such. In turn, we are treated to some near-mystical and transcendental journeys... contemporary psychedelia, spaceward-bound forays, expansive and drone-bound guitar textures. Inspired by Fourier's Harmonian Opera and several quotations by Hakim Bey, Sores' has created an album that resonates with depth of a nature rarely found these days.
