ALLERSEELEN - 'Rauhe Schale' CD (Aorta / Ahnstern)
"Rauhe Schale" ('Rough Shell') is the brand new album from Austrian legends Allerseelen, which fascinates musically as well as visually. Everything moves and flows in a field of force between industrial, metal, folklore and pop. Lovers of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Einstürzende Neubauten, Laibach or Underworld could also fall in love with Allerseelen. Gerhard Hallstatt sometimes describes his music as Electronic Folklore or Apocalyptic Rock. But basically there is no real description for Allerseelen - all attempts to find an expression for their music may be valid for some time, yet lose their meaning after a couple of months or years. The songs were inspired by various magical mystery tours in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia. Numancia was a small castro (Spanish for Celtiberian village). The inhabitants of Numancia fought against the Roman Empire for more than 20 years. In 133B.C. Rome sent their best general Escipion to create a siege and destroy Numancia so they could control the entire peninsula. However, when the Romans entered the village, the survivors decided to kill their own children, set their own belongings on fire and end their own lives. If the Empire controlled Celtiberia they could not control their people. Musically Numancia is a invigorating trip from the magnificence of the village to the final decision of choose to die instead of being conquered. Solid drums and ritual elements are mixed with Heathen tunes for the recognizable Ur-Folk sound. All texts are written and sung in Spanish and in the ancient Celtiberian language. Outsize sleeve.
ÀRNICA is a Barcelona based project. The artist's interests are deep rooted in the ancient Iberian culture and traditions. Their music is a mix of traditional Pyrenees Folk and heathen Battle / Hunting songs. Their first full length album is a tale narrated by an old man as his last legacy to a casual traveller. In a hut and near by fire the traveler will be the depositor of ancient knowledge about forgotten gods, wisdom of life, tradition and statements of war. All lyrics and singing is in Spanish or Catalan. A wide range of instruments is used, on top of them accordion, guitars, drums and flutes. ÀRNICA play 100% Alpine Folk, creating wild and rural atmospheres, quite similar to their friends from STURMPERCHT, but just from the opposite part of the holy Alps. Digipak.
The 4th Asmorod CD is a fascinating, introspective, deep ambient work that distinguishes itself from the mass of uniform dark ambient releases. Niiko (now the only member of Asmorod) used the word Hysope (French word for "Hyssop") as a symbol of spiritual purification. In ancient times, Hyssop was used for the cleansing of lepers (Leprosy may represent sin... but lepers were not necessarily sinful) and used for cleaning sacred places. It is alluded to in the Scriptures: 'Purge me with Hyssop, and I shall be clean' (Purify me from my sins, and i will be clean; wash me, and i will be whiter than snow. Psalms 51:7). Two years after the highly acclaimed "Nuklearchetyp" album the mighty Atomtrakt are finally back with a new release entitled "Sperrstelle Nordost". Dissecting Table is one of the most influential Noise artists from the early Japanese Industrial years. The first Dissecting Table recordings are quite unique in the Japanese Industrial scene, as the band was working with very concrete rhythms and screaming voices. The only comparisons to early Dissecting Table recordings might be the legendary albums of Grim and White Hospital. This set contains the A-side of the first 7" (Ultimate Psychological Description, 1986), the first LP (Ultra Point Of Intersection Exist, 1987), the first CD (Between Life And Death, 1990), all compilation tracks up to 1991 and even an unreleased track from 1986. Falkenstein's self produced debut-album "Heiliger Wald" gained a lot of praise in Folk music press. Their 2nd album "Urdarbrunnen" is now released by the Steinklang Neofolk sub-label Heimatfolk. "Urdarbrunnen" is again a perfecly played, strong and dreamingly beautiful album with a rich, varied instrumentation, even more dense and powerful than the debut album. The musical range lasts from acoustic ballads over Martial Folk songs to dark fairie tales about mysticism, paganism and natural rites in the Alpine regions. Amazing and unique debut CD of the Swiss Ur-Folk project Fräkmündt, born out of the idea to revive old sagas and nearly forgotten songs and atmospheres of the alpine regions of Switzerland. Performed in alemannic central-Swiss dialect, the songs on "Urbärglieder" simulate a journey through landscapes of the quaint regions of Switzerland. They let you chase through stormwinds with the wild hunt at mount Pilatus or stroll under the paintings of the danse macabre over the Spreuerbridge in Lucerne. "Uufwärts e d’Föuse" (Upward to the rocks) is a conceptual album which takes the listener on an imposing musical journey to untouched Alpine areas. As on "Urbärglieder" all tracks are presented in the typical Fräkmündt Central-Swiss alemannic dialect. After an "Alp-Blessing" ("Aupsääge"), the journey upwards is visualised using acoustic guitars, accordion, drums, hurdy-gurdy melodies and flute. The nighttime track “Höttehock” is a swinging and wild traditional dancing track with a catchy accordion melody and nice acoustic guitars. The last track "Stouz ond frey" (proud and free) is a devotional and powerful song with profound hurdy-gurdy, rhythmic guitar melodies and catchy accordion tunes. IRIJ is a one-woman-folk project brought to life by Eluveite violinist Meri Tadic in autumn 2006. Her compositions range from mere instrumentals all the way to a cappella songs. This is the second album by the Austrian Psychedelic-Folk artist Jahrtal. The man behind Jahrtal is Ewald Spiss, a artist from Tyrol, who started doing electro-acoustic music and sound-installations in the early 80s. Jahrtal today is authentic psychedelic Folk music, maybe only comparable with In Gowan Ring. The lyrics of the second album are poems of "Songs Of Innocence and Of Experience" by the English poet William Blake (1757-1827), translated by Ewald Spiss, as near as possible to the original Blake-texts.

Stein was founded in 2005 as the solo-project of Norbert Strahl, the singer of Seelenthron and founding member of the famous Neofolk outfit Dies Natalis. Norbert's aim with Stein was, to compose songs for the poems of Georg Thom (his grandfather), written between 1911 and 1936. In the beginning of the band, Norbert worked with Jens Vetter of Grünland, who also was ex-Dies Natalis member, but due to the intense work on Seelenthron, Stein stopped in the fledgling stage, until in 2009 the project finally grew to a real band. Finally in summer 2010 the first album "Haldor" was recorded in the Studios of Alexander Meier. "Haldor" is a mix of romantic-paganism and apocalyptic visions, packed in real handmade, classical Neofolk. The album is dedicated to Lorenz Klinger, Norbert's little son, who fights against leukemia with the power of a tiny rock. "Haldor" is Norse and means "Thor's rock". Digipak.
