BARDOSENETICCUBE & NOISES OF RUSSIA - 'New Orthodox Line' CD (Some Place Else)
(2007) "New Orthodox Line" brings together two of the most notable Russian post-industrial / experimental groups: Bardoseneticcube and Noises of Russia. This unique collaboration brings the best of both artists to the surface, and results in an extremely powerful and intense emotional experience. The opus travels from sacral soundscapes of orthodox choirs and church bells to a more punishing end of the sonic spectrum provided by pounding rhythms and howling feedback. Here, opposites unite with passion and compliment each other for the sake of the greater good, the synergetic New Orthodox Line. Presented in a slimline square DVD case.
GELSOMINA & NO XIVIC - 'Furnace' CD (Some Place Else)
(2007) "Furnace" is an unlikely, yet strangely natural union of No Xivic, renowned sculptor of dark electro-acoustic soundscapes, and Gelsomina, Finland's most prolific harsh noise artist. The title track, also the main piece on the album, is a live collaboration recorded in late 2006, a grand opus of psychedelic noise with a peculiar 'kraut' flavour! In addition to this, both artists created exclusive tracks on their own to complete the album. In total, "Furnace" is a 44-minute blast of fire, brimstone and hazardous electric currents. Presented in a slimline square DVD case.
For this album, Mathias Josefson collaborated with colleagues from the Royal University Of Arts, Stockholm, who provided him with various sound sources. "Sadalsuud" refers to a star of the same name in the constellation of Aquarius. The name comes from an Arabic phrase meaning "the luckiest of them all". Nevertheless the album is rather earthy-sounding, yet mystical and surreal, almost claustrophobic at times. The sound is quite reminiscent of some works by Nurse With Wound, Maeror Tri or The Hafler Trio, but carries the trademark Moljebka Pvlse feel. Digipak, Finnish import.
NIKO SKORPIO - 'Delta Amoeba' MCD (Some Place Else)
"A review I was reading described this as 'sick-hop' and that tag seems to fit. This is not trip-hop or pop music... but it is a relative. Delta Amoeba has the sonic experimentation and aesthetic of an underground noise album but somehow channels recent 'electronica' without compromise. Imagine if trip-hop star Tricky gave up the reefer, moved to Finland, and got depressed and lost his mind... and you'll be on the right path." (Black Box Radio). 3 tracks, slimline jewelcase.

NIKO SKORPIO - 'Escape From Heaven' CD (Some Place Else)
Composed between 2000-2005, the musick could be described as 'industrial', mostly because it pays homage to the early Industrial groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Coil or Psychic TV by being a wide-ranged beast of experimentation including some nice deep dark ambient soundscapes. Escape from Heaven also carries a loose storyline that can be interpreted in occult, mythological, social and personal levels. Basically the album is a Manifesto of personal Liberation and a declaration of war against all forces of boredom and stagnation.

NIKO SKORPIO - 'Half Born In Half Light' CD (Some Place Else)
"Half Born in Half Light" is based on the foundations of psychedelic ambient soundscapes and darkly majestic bass drone, over which tribal rhythms and magickal vocal invocations build grotesque alien monoliths, whose angles mock the euclidean mathematics of conventional composition. Niko Skorpio is not restricted to one particular genre, but draws on many sources. This makes the music colourful and diverse, yet it remains coherent and has the artist’s unique fingerprints all over (this time literally in the cover as well). Standard PVC sleeve with 12-page booklet.
OVRO - 'Mosaick The Serpent / Vipera Aurea' CD (Some Place Else)
This album consists of two distinct parts, each independent yet linked to each other. Originally intended as two companion EPs, they support and compliment each other and form a new whole, a third being that contains both its makers and in itself is something more. These two EPs, Mosaick and Vipera are twins – independent yet entwined like the snakes of a caduceus. Vipera Aurea is "coagula" to Mosaick the Serpent's "solve". Calm yet intense, vocal-flavoured Dark Ambient mindscapes in the distinct Ovrian style. Features contributions from Massimo (Black Sun Productions), NIko Skorpio and Mockingwyrd. Standard PVC sleeve with 12-page booklet.

OVRO - 'Revisited' CD (Some Place Else)
The wondergirl of Finnish dark ambient soundscapes is back with a new album. Revisited is based on field recordings made during Ovro’s tour in Russia in 2006, subsequently processed and treated in the studio. Revisited is a powerful aural travelogue. It will lull the listener to a state of receptive trance, and then starts working on the subconscious mind. Let yourself go, lose yourself in the sound, expect lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, alien apparitions and a shower of sound massaging your body throughout. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digisleeve.
Compilation showcasing many of the bands on the SOME PLACE ELSE label roster. All acts work in a experi-electronic field, some very much along similar lines to PAN SONIC, or some of the acts on the German SELEKTION label. All exclusive tracks, and I believe all the acts are from Scandinavia: CLOP NEPLAT, AUGUSTUS M, NIKO SKORPIO, AH, MNEM, ANAPTHERGAL, JANKO 'KRUL' ALBANSKAJ and LASSE MARHAUG. Nicely designed book and tray.
