Formication is Alec Bowman and Kingsley Ravenscroft, the miraculous electric musical ensemble from Nottingham. They create unique rhythmic, chaotic yet structured works, twisting a variety of sounds into creeped-out electronica, frozen ambience and sporadic wayward beats. Harsh noise and metal abuse from Minneapolis. Grain Belt is a trio comprised of the people behind the Wince, Baculum, and Willful projects. HOOR-PAAR-KRAAT - 'The Eureka Tapes: The Complete Recordings' 2 x CD (Small Doses / Basses Frequences)
The pieces that make up "The Eureka Tapes" were all created while Hoor-paar-Kraat’s Anthony Mangicapra was living in the town of Eureka, California. Indeed, the town’s name is apt as they represent a “Eurekamoment” for Hoor-paar-Kraat as a musical entity; a figurative spilling of the bath waters as Hoor-paar-Kraat found their sound. The hints of alchemical transcendence that peeped through the cracks of previous releases come brazenly into view throughout. Music dissolves into explorations of texture, acoustic phenomena and the psyche. Originally issued as three separate volumes in a variety of hard to find formats, "The Eureka Tapes" collects the three original volumes, plus Hoor-paar-Kraat’s side of their split cassette with Last and a previously unreleased recording from the same sessions. Hoor-paar-Kraat’s music finds itself travelling the same surreal by-ways as Nurse With Wound, irr. app. (ext.), The Hafler Trio and Coil’s more ritualistic output.
"Gratitudes" finds Kinit Her (Nathantiel Ritter of Burial Hex, and Troy Schafer of Wormsblood) doing what they do best - crafting unique compositions and blending influences from all over the map. Elements of doom metal, dark ambient, and early industrial music all work their way into Kinit Her’s eclectic brand of ritual neofolk music. This release reissues their masterful "Divine Names" cassette and includes an unreleased full-length companion recording, bringing their complete vision to fruition. LOCRIAN - 'Drenched Lands' CD (At War With False Noise / Small Doses)
First full-length studio album from one of the most consistently good bands around today, Chicago's Locrian. "Drenched Lands" is a beautifully thought-out piece of music, from a gentle guitar strum / synth opening which cuts out abruptly just as you're becoming entirely engrossed, only to give way to an epic cavernous drone. The whole thing brings to mind some sort of disused industrial factory or barren post-apocalyptic landscape. Dark tones, noise, keys and the odd well-placed guitar strum combine brilliantly to evoke feeling of desolation, loss, a submission of will, almost tangential in sound to Earth's "Hex" album. LOCRIAN - 'Territories' CD (BloodLust! / Small Doses)
André Foisy and Terence Hannum have spent the last several years honing the Locrian sound. They've taken elements from noise, power electronics, drone, and black metal to come up with a truly unique sound reflecting the sprawling urban decay surrounding them in Chicago. For this release, Locrian has pulled out all the stops and fleshed out the band with the help of Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded), Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) and Andrew Scherer (Velnias). The results of this massive collaborative effort are apparent from the moment the album starts. The textures run darker and deeper; the vocals - sometimes three layers deep - seem to be conjured from the decrepit muck of a failed civilisation; the feedback takes on a more pronounced presence; and the big band allows for full-on black metal assaults that burst out of the tortured drones Locrian have come to be known for. "Territories" may well be the most fully realised form of Locrian's dystopic vision. Digipak.

Sky Burial (aka Michael Page of Fire in the Head) has been exploring the dark ambient side of industrial music since 2006, evolving into a unique and steadfast in the genre. "Threnody For Collapsing Suns" is a triptych clocking in at over 50 minutes - thoughtfully composed; incorporating deep drones, shimmering synth work, and lamenting melodic lines. The disparate layers come together to form a surprisingly organic, well-crafted narrative. Threnody continues Sky Burial’s journey into the nebulous dusk of “Kosmische Musik”, and forms part of a loose trilogy with the preceding Kiehtan and forthcoming Aegri Somnia. Ltd x 500 copies.

The Ritual Inclusion Of Code is a monumental collaboration between Daniel Jansson (Deadwood) and Osman Arabi (20.sv, Seeker). Beta Wave Nemesis is their premiere recording. Both artist's influences and efforts are immediately apparent and blend effortlessly to create this single document of a long journey. Dark ambient textures blend with industrial soundscapes. Harsh noise floats with minimal drone and power electronics vocalisations. One movement flows well into the next, making for an intense and epic debut recording. The art and design was handled by Seldon Hunt.
