First vinyl for Asianova - Ure Thrall of Voice Of Eye and Pamela Passmore, with several guests - and the second in the "Substantia Innominata" series from Drone Records (the first being Daniel Menche's "Radiant Blood"). Over 30 minutes of music inspired by "the unknown, the unnameable, the unspeakable, the unthinkable". Musically this release sits between experimental drone and ethno-ambient. Haunting sound effects and eerie female vocals are carefully layered over a combination of drones, soundscapes and ambience. File next to Hybryds. First edition of 500 copies with full colour cover and pressed on pink / white marbled vinyl.

BIRCH BOOK - 'Fortune & Folly' LP (Ahnstern / Steinklang)
This classic Folk milestone was recorded on San Juan Island of the Pacific Northwest. "Fortune & Folly" is the fitting second volume of Birch Book (aka In Gowan Ring). Assuming the allegorical emblems of The Wheel of Fortune and The Traveling Fool, Fortune & Folly distill the introspections of a perennial rambler reckoning the Bitter and the Bliss of The Road Less Traveled. Drifting away from the overtly psychedelic, medieval, and soporific atmosphere which typified In Gowan Ring, Bee (Jon Michael Beirth) displays a more organic, individualistic approach to songwriting. Fortune & Folly blends elements of idiosyncratic folk-pop and outcast-country with brooding layers of sound and sense, yielding a spectral ethereality in a captivating chiaroscuro thick with the visionary allusions of a haunted wanderer. Ltd x 400 copies on black vinyl in a heavy gatefold cover, with 2 exclusive bonus tracks.

DAVID JACKMAN - 'Flak' 10" (Die Stadt)
An excellent 10" release offering two diverse pieces. Side A is a heavy, densely layered drone piece comprised of harsh, grating sounds all over the sound field, but sliding from start to finish with remarkable constancy. It's a truly beautiful noise, rather like some of Jackman's earlier work as Organum. Side B is a field recording, untreated, unfiltered, recorded outdoors, with a great hiss that is very much present in the mix. This second track seems to comment on the drone piece in a way, acting as an alternative exploration of its theme. Regular edition of 400 copies.

DUAL - 'Klanik' 7" (Drone Records)
The music of UK act Dual is a mixture of mighty guitar drones with massive sub bass undertones and slight rhythmic structures that evoke feelings of total transcendence and grandeur. Cascades of tuneful layered guitars speak a special language of their own, flipping over to more concrete elements and unpleasent feedback arising, added by strange backwards sounds creating a rather eerie and challenging feel to it. This is highly demanding incremental experimental guitar-music with a very individual style! Second edition of 300 copies on white vinyl with hand-coloured sleeve and an insert.

FJERNLYS - 'Ascending Triads & Luminous Arcs’ 2 x CD (Loki Foundation)
Behind this project hides one of Inade's masterminds - Knut Enderlein. On this first disc, the songs layer cosmic and synthetic sounds and go on tracing according to the principle harmony in the music, their acoustic space feeling very expansive. The voices creep crosswise into sounds and effects to lunar spheres and solar places. The five remixes and interpretations of ANTLERS MULM, BAD SECTOR, FIRST LAW and LOVESPELL on the second disc support the complex character of the whole release and expand the into a new style of Ambient songs. More 'song' based than Inade, Fjernlys reminds of fellow Loki act Predominance. Presented in a double jewel case with a very nice slipcase to finish.
The second full-length album from Kshatriy (aka Sergey Bulychyov from Vsevolozhsk, Russia) is an imprint of direct experience of the Universe. The album is dedicated to the end of Kali-Yuga - the age of technocratic lack of spirituality and moral decay - and to the attainment of human awareness of the Unity. Eight hasteless compositions of psychedelic drone ambient combine a light atmosphere with deep layers, crystal clear sound transparency with mild and sometimes uneasy melodies. Soft organic tracks full of plangent drones, noises and natural recordings neighbor with dense and saturated hymns to Hindu goddess Kali. The disk is closed by a beautiful lyrical composition reminding us that the best way to overcome ignorance and realize unity is Love. Ltd x 500 copies in a 6-panel digipak.
LASSE MARHAUG - 'The Quiet North' CD (Second Layer Records)
Harsh-noise recording from Norway’s finest - Lasse Marhaug (Jazkamer, Origami Replika, Testicle Hazard etc). Guitar, pedals and metal objects used with ‘Reign In Blood’ style efficiency. No cut-ups, no drastic changes, yet the energy is sustained for the duration. Despite the minimal elements, this is not to be confused with wall-noise as this is highly restless material - pure forward driving energy from start to finish. Ltd x 500 copies in a 6-panel digisleeve.

MARTYN BATES - 'Mystery Seas (Letters Written #2)' CD (Shayo)
"Mystery Seas" (originaly released in 1995 on A-Scale Recordings and now entirely remastered) is the second of Martyn Bates' (Eyeless In Gaza) "Letters Written" series. On this album he sets his songs into organ based backings, going right back to the drones of traditional song and more than this, to church music. It's an intensive sound which would appeal to fans of traditional folk and electronic music fans all at once. There is a dream state built up from these songs of drifting minimal chords and layers of vocals. What could sound sparse, sounds full and balanced. Digipak.
MOURNFUL CONGREGATION - 'The Monad Of Creation' CD (Weird Truth Productions)
Long awaited 2nd album from this south Australian Doom formation. Extreme slowness and heaviness bring depression to the depths of your mind. Layered sorrowful melodies make tears shed from your eyes. Four lengthy, sorrowful hymns to make you mourn. The first 2 songs are very emotional and dramatic. The 3rd track brings a 10 minute respite with beautiful acoustic guitar melodies. The last title track starts in solemn mood, gradually unleashing sorrowful emotions. This is a new level of mournful doom, established by high musicianship! Second edition, ltd x 1000 copies. Japanese import with obi strip.

MY CAT IS AN ALIEN / STEVE RODEN - 'Cosmic Debris Volume II' CD (A Silent Place)
CD re-issue of the second installment in the "Cosmic Debris" split ART-LP series set up by Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, aka My Cat Is An Alien, on their own Opax Records. California visual / sound artist Steve Roden's contribution represents the unique experience of hearing him literally 'playing' guitar chords. MCIAA deliver another piece of 'cosmic debris', centered on multilayered echoes of voice, toy piano, space drones raising from a distant horizon, and their own physical gestures performed during the recording, which reproduce themselves through the air, re-play and give birth to echoes of real time that overcomes its own essence, becoming field recording itself, mirror and spectre of its immutability. Their track entitled also features Ramona Ponzini's Japanese bells contribution. Digisleeve.

RAMLEH - 'Valediction' CD (Second Layer Records)
"Valediction" is the first all new Ramleh album since 1997, and the first new Power Electronics recordings from the project for 25 years. And yet "Valediction" is no ordinary power electronics record, nor is it anything as straightforward as simply a return to their roots. "Valediction" is very much an entity of its own - both consolidating and expanding upon everything Ramleh have touched on in the past, but also digging into entirely fresh ground for the band. "Valediction" is, perhaps, Ramleh's most bleakly psychedelic creation so far. Ltd x 1000 copies in a gatefold sleeve with 8 page booklet containing photos and cut-up lyrics from some of the tracks.

SCOTT HULL - 'Audiofilm 2' 3" CD (Crucial Blast)
Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed) has been gradually revealing another side of his musical persona over the past few years; an obsession with cinematic soundscaping and dark evocative film scores, mutant electronic textures and pitch-black isolationism. On this second Audiofilm 3" CD, Scott creates a much more frantic and energetic soundscape, this one alive with minimal bass-shuddering pulses and tone manipulations, layered swarms of insectile electronic chitter, swells of shadowy ambience, brain-melting plasma blasts, and vast tectonic drones. A brief but amazing dose of abstract dark ambient/noise that will appeal to fans of Bastard Noise, Astro, and freaked-out 70's sci-fi synth soundtracks. Ltd x 1000 copies in a mini gatefold sleeve with artwork from Seldon Hunt.
SKULLFLOWER - 'Malediction' CD (Second Layer Records)
Brilliant Skullflower studio recording featuring the line-up of Matthew Bower, Samantha Davies (Voltigeurs), Lee Stokoe (Culver) and Stuart Dennison (Ramleh, original Skullflower) back on drums. Three long tracks of blackened guitar wall. No one is making music that sounds like this. Comes in 6-panel digipak with artwork by Matthew Bower. Limited to 1000 copies.

VA - 'John Barleycorn Reborn: Rebirth' 2CD (Cold Spring CSR150CD)
The compilers of 'John Barleycorn Reborn' (2007), faced an embarrassment of riches - a testament both to English folk heritage and the health of the contemporary folk music scene. So here we have the second crop from that original sowing. Originally released for download only, now finally available as a stunning double CD, with every track completely remastered to the highest quality. 33 tracks from the cream of current dark British Folk music.
CD1: Charlotte Greig & Johan Asherton, David A Jaycock, Far Black Furlong, James Reid, JefvTaon, Magpiety, Novemthree, Paul Newman, Sedayne, Steve Tyler, Telling The Bees, The Big Eyes Family Players, The Owl Service, The Story, The Straw Bear Band, The Wendigo, Wooden Spoon, Xenis Emputae Travelling Band and Yealand Redmayne.
CD2: Clive Powell, Cunnan, Daughters Of Elvin, James Reid, Mac Henderson Of Grand Union Morris, Mary Jane, Misericordia, Novemthree, Orchis, Sundog, Sunshine Coding, The Anvil, Twelve Thousand Days and Venereum Arvum.
The second full-length album from this Russian act. "Horna" was inspired by the Finnish-Karelian folk-epos “The Kalevala”. Part dirge ambient-drone atmospherics, part noisy black-doom horror, the album's five epic compositions sucked inspiration from Lustmord, Skullflower, Earth, SunnO))), Khanate, Nadja, Jesu, and belched them out into breathtakingly emotional, bass generated audio nightmares, with signs of melodic and rhythmic organisation. An avalanche of dark apocalyptic images hovering over countless layers of sound and distorted sporadic vocals.

VOMIR - 'Application À Aphistemi' CD (Maisonbruit)
"No dynamics, no change, no development, no ideas, is how French wall-noise master Romain Perrot once summed up the Vomir aesthetic. The 70-odd recordings he has produced under the name - all seething slabs of layered noise - have varied in density but never in approach or conception. How can such a project move forward? Well, the obvious answer is by realising the same idea with different means. Thus, the second track hear, "L'Apparence Du Vrai Est Un Moment Du Faux", is a harsh noise wall performed on a 12-string electroacoustic guitar, the first of its kind in the Vomir catalogue. It has everything you listen for in a HNW release - the crackling cross-rhythms, the transformation of static mass into polyphony - but the pace (if that makes sense) is slower; there are strings, so there's pitch; and you can hear the rattle of the guitar-neck. Track one, on the other hand, is classic Vomir: a blizzard in constant crescendo, uncompromisingly empty, infinitely detailed" (The Wire). Ltd x 500 copies with embroidered patch.

WYRM - 'Divination Bones / Adam Coils' 7" (Drone Records)
Excellent abstract drone-experimentalism by this mysterious project by the long active Allan Zane, feat. Liz Lang (Auracene). This is second, extended, revised and complete version of both tracks previously released as a 7" picture disc. Zane describes the sound as a construction of aural amalgamations of genres now often referred to as "dark ambient" and experimental "electronica". Layered subdued drones with e-bow and repetitive structures. Second edition of 400 copies on silver vinyl.
