ALIO DIE & MARILOINA ZITTA - 'La Sala Dei Cristalli' CD (Hic Sunt Leones)
Selected sound materials from sonorous stones, stalactites, bat calls, flutes, field recordings collected by Mariolina Zitta in different caves in Liguria a Sardinia, Italy, processed and edited by Alio Die. Drones are played by the authors on a set of long stones that resonate, caressed by a bathed hand, and by the same principle of crystal glasses. A very immersive and obscure journey, an underground meditation with a ritual touch, in accordance with the "natural sound", despite the sampling and multi-effect techniques used here. A deep listening experience. 6-panel digipak.

ATUM - 'Legendy Miejskie' CD (Beast Of Prey)
"Legendy Miejskie" ("Urban Legends") is composed mostly of field recordings captured in Jaworzno, the home town of Atum. It is an attempt at reconstructing the surroundings in order to distill something that eludes the every-day experience. Despite its private character, the message of the Legends is universal too. All of us pass dozens of places we think are "tamed", places seemingly devoid of meaning. Just a little effort is what it takes to dispel this illusion. Musically, the album is a combination of field recordings, drones, whispers, and sounds of different acoustic instruments. The purpose is to reveal the oneiric dark side of the surrounding world. Features guests: Infamis (Krepulec), Tomasz K and Rafał Pach, and Piotr U. Digipak.
This release gathers recordings for a session at WFMU, recorded during their second US tour and captured live on the 25th September 2007. Spread over the four sides are the six cuts which made up Circle’s second session for WFMU, once more capturing the self-proclaimed New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal outfit proving themselves to be almost everything but ‘Heavy Metal’ despite possessing the only too apparent ability to compete with the best amongst that world. Taking in operatic vocals, unearthly mulch, psychedelic splurge, nods towards folk and krautrock, and mammoth riffs capable of knocking down nearby buildings, avant-rock has rarely arrived both so potent and in dire need of a straitjacket before. Gatefold digisleeve with printed inner sleeves.

"TimeBank" is a collection of exclusive unreleased compositions recorded by Cyclotimia from 2003-2007. A post-industrial "dish" containing cyber jazz and IDM, neoclassical and trademark technological ambient, old-school electronics and atmospheric new age, experimental and much more. Despite the seeming stylistic incompatibility the band has succeeded in creating an album with a spectacular plot similar to a good Hollywood thriller. A special jewel on the album is the track 'Nocturne' combining aerial melodies and uneasy sonic cinematography. Also worth mentioning is the "live" 10-minute prog-industrial suite "Economic Meditation", imbued with psychedelic drama. Ltd x 500 copies.
HIKIKOMORI - 'Far From The World' CD (Steelwork Maschine)

JAZZKAMMER - 'New Water' 3" CD (OHM Records)
Jazzkammer's Lasse Marhaug and John Hegre, captured live in Singapore in 2003, during the height of the SARS epidemic. "This CD sees them playing with noise and feedback, despite the use of some water sounds and short outbursts of rhythmical elements. For the bigger part it's still Merzbow influenced noise music" (Vital). 20 minutes of beautiful broken sounds and horrendous feedback! Comes in a beautiful little gatefold digifile.

LASSE MARHAUG - 'The Quiet North' CD (Second Layer Records)
Harsh-noise recording from Norway’s finest - Lasse Marhaug (Jazkamer, Origami Replika, Testicle Hazard etc). Guitar, pedals and metal objects used with ‘Reign In Blood’ style efficiency. No cut-ups, no drastic changes, yet the energy is sustained for the duration. LE REVERS SANGLANT - 'Un Combat Perdu D'Avance' CD (Twilight Records)
The winter of 2004 marked the birth of the Le Revers Sanglant. The initial goal of the project was to create a minimalist audio concept with cold and martial atmospheres. During the Fall of 2010 the music and concept had begun to take on a more aggressive sound. The realisation of this new focus is attributed to 'Un Combat Perdu d'Avance', representing feelings of uprising and melancholy. Taking the subject of war as backdrop, we can find an ubiquitous death for those young soldiers. Fate wins. Taken into battle, whatever happens, they won't have to miss courage to face up their destiny. Recorded with despairing energy and limited means, this album serves to translate the echo of those young souls in respite. Digipak.

LONGING FOR DAWN - 'Between Elation And Despair' CD (Grau)
Third album of crawling, transcendental, utterly morbid and depressive doom from this excellent Canadian band - Stefan Laroche and Frédéric Arbour (Cyclic Law boss). "...one of those albums you can lose yourself in ...The music is thoroughly morose and depressive, though not on an even remotely whiny sense, and never allows the listener any respite... an album for funeral doom purists to enjoy... this is a band that deserves kudos for the integrity of their approach and the quality of their work." (Chronicles Of Chaos).
"The basis of this work was recorded in a radio station in Oslo and later reworked in Merzbow's bedroom studio. I must admit I don't know where Masami's love for chickens comes from, but a whole chicken chorus is present on this work. They are there in the form loops, and on top Merzbow improves with computers. A dense, cloudy swirl of sound is what the result... Despite the work done later on in the studio, the 'live' element is still present here" (Vital). Comes in a little gatefold digifile.

MOHA! - 'Kriiskav Valgus' 7" (Le Petit Mignon)
These two tracks are probably some of the most ecstatic pieces to have emerged from the Norwegian duo. This new blitz 7" sounds almost as improvised as composed: no hesitation, no failures, no rest, just overheating and broken drum sticks. This is Moha! possessed by a powerful light, spreading the remains of free Jazz, noise, arcade games vandals and clubbing terrorists. There's no respite in these two intense and solid tracks, both subtly composed in spite of the constant overgain and apparent mess, both spat out towards your ears throughout these ten minutes. Take an avalanche of drum parts, hints of power electronics, and pure data activism, and you'll get an idea of the substance of this record. Long awaited 2nd album from this south Australian Doom formation. Extreme slowness and heaviness bring depression to the depths of your mind. Layered sorrowful melodies make tears shed from your eyes. Four lengthy, sorrowful hymns to make you mourn. The first 2 songs are very emotional and dramatic. ROBERT MILLIS - '120' CD (Etude Records)
Reissue of Millis' extremely limited 2008 release (Ltd x 120). Despite his many activities, Millis' recorded output has almost entirely been by way of collaboration, making this gem of a solo album all the more special. Psychedelic smear pocked with snippets of conversation, poetic extracts from his collection of 78s and a judicious amount of vinyl crackling. Blissed out shimmers constructed from loops and drones from guitar, bells, and glass harmonica, where haunted melodies from times long gone whisper through the mix. As if Millis were tapping into some stream of consciousness that subcutaneously connects all of these intermingling sounds. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak.
Rothko are a UK 3-piece who employ a unique approach to ambient music. All three members play electric bass and often utilise a handful of effects to alter the bass guitar sound to otherworldly rumbles and pulses. Their songs wander between intertwining bass melodies and washes of sound. "291," is comprised of simple meandering bass melodies, with a set verse, chorus, verse structure. The parts themselves sound very open and freeform, which gives the song a spacious feel, like their tone collages, despite the absence of any ambient noises. The B-side, "St. Seno" combines soundscape with melody. The end result is fairly similar to the A-side but much easier to grab onto. Droning waves of sound provide a full backdrop for the simple harmonies of the two bass guitar parts. Faint clinking of bells and sound loops playing backwards create a dream-like ambience which smears the song into a short, to the point, bliss out.

SUNSET WINGS - 'Covering For Solace' CD (Wrotycz)
The debut album of a Königsberg band Sunset Wings is a wide opened window to the world of Neofolk music. Inspired by pearls of English romantic poetry together with traditional ballads of the British isles and the art of Pre-Raphaelites, this album takes you to a marvelous journey in the land of childhood dreams, sweet sorrow and melancholy. Despite the sorrow of lyrics the music of this album more often than not is rather bright and filled with sweet nostalgic melancholy. With it's particular sound and temperament, Sunset Wings takes it's place among famous Russian dark-folk bands, such as Neutral and Romowe Rikoito. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak including booklet with all lyrics.
A very strong personal work, with each track having its own concept and story of creation. Despite this, the album has a strong sound and a monolithic continuous-direction, which can be felt only after hearing it in full. Thoughtful, emotional, dark and mysterious neoclassical / ambient music with a black palette. After all, there is a law by which the viewer / listener perceives a black stage design as separate from themselves, the viewer, and a white / light as a continuation of it, the viewer's space. Ltd x 250 copies in a card envelope.
THE INFANT CYCLE - 'Secret Hidden Message' 7" (Drone Records)
The Infant Cycle is an experimental project from Ontario (Canada), active since 1992. The three pieces on this EP were created using sounds from various instruments (Trombone, guitar, windchimes, marimba, birdcage). The result sounds rather electronic and hypnotic, with bright shining drones and repetitive rhythmic patterns, loops moving into more amorphous and multilayered electro-acoustics. In spite of the rather experimental working-methods the outcome is very compact and condensed. The Infant Cycle's approach to sound is based on the belief that words and explanations can only fail to describe or explain it, what is needed is a non-verbal, intuitive understanding of the work." First edition of 300 copies on clear grey vinyl with printed transparent cover and an insert.
