Andromelos ANDROMELOS - 'Andromelos' CD (Ektro Records)

(2006) Debut release from Andromelos - a psychedelic Japanese supergroup formed by guitarist Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple, Nishinihon, Musica Transonic, Mainliner, Gong), electronics genius Yamazaki Maso (Masonna, Space Machine) and drummer Okano Futoshi (Nishinihon, ex Subert Blaze, ex Ghost). Droning organs and relatively calm electronics give way to a fully-fledged cosmic-kraut-rock-lovin-odyssey ala AMT and Space Machine, or 70s analogue-synth masters like Klaus Schulze or early Tangerine Dream. Ektro is the label of Jussi from Finnish legends Circle.

Infestation INFESTATION - 'Bastion Untouchable' CD (War Office Propaganda / Rage In Eden)

(2008) Infestation is the martial industrial act of Louis Carrier. The act is best defined by its burning orchestral textures and its violent percussion that give rhythm and life to combative vocal clamours. Evoking subjects concerning the fight for subsistence of cultural heritage, the project covers the unending determination of the minority French-speaking people of Québec that survives through centuries of assimilation and gives the clear indication that struggling is never vain.   Jarl JARL - 'Breaking Point Syndrome' CD (Autarkeia)

(2007) The ninth album of Swedish industrial artst Erik Jarl, also known as one half of IRM. Just like his previous albums, this one radiates the remarkably icy, mercilessly depressing and languorous, as well as claustrophobic mood. To reach the effect, Erik simply generates unique industrial sounds. Each accord smacks of unexplainable anxiety, the feeling of a degenerate future, drug-induced reality, poisoning and exceptionally technocratic character. Jarl music can be qualified as psychedelic industrial / drone, while the album is an excellent example of the Scandinavian mastership in creating a persuasive and visionary sonic landscape. Solo debut by Californian Nathan Berlinguette of 5/5/2000, The Human Quena Orchestra, and Creation Is Crucifixion. 'The Dreams Of...' sets a course for the heart of a black hole, and takes the scenic sonic route getting there. This is the sound of stargazing, a blackened landscape of warm shimmer that imperceptibly shifts and contorts, each new shape even more abstract and more black than the shape before, tracing a minimal path that simultaneously drifts beneath the sea, through subterranean caverns, amidst the vacuum of space and through the impossibility of alternate universes. Soft rumbles, warm chordal swells, glistening abstract melodies, drifting gauzy shimmer, all falling into one another and making the journey special. Packaged in a simple folded black sleeve, printed with gold foil. Features guest appearances by Tim Green (The Fucking Champs) and Ryan Unks (Creation Is Crucifixion, Circadia).

Passione Nera PASSIONE NERA - 'Research EP' MCD (Cold Meat Industry)

The first offering from this Rome outfit. Originally conceived in 2005, Passione Nera has evolved from a folk-pop creature into a fully-fledged chamber-pop ensemble. The band keeps one watery alcoholic eye fixed on the cinematic tradition, with melodic landscapes that are dusty and melancholy. These scenes are then wrapped up in lush, orchestrated songs with acoustic and electric guitars taking the centre stage, and enhanced by a large array of additional instruments. It is as if the songs were written on the back of 1960s postcards brought back from some imaginary journey into “Americana”, then bred with French-pop, cross-fertilized with baroque-pop, and finally molded into a soundtrack for the broken-hearted, the disenchanted and the misunderstood. Features guest vocals from Simone and Piergiorgio of Spiritual Front. Digipak.

"Raspad" (Russian for disintegration-zerfall) is the third full length album by Post Scriptvm. Dense, thickly-layered industrial ambient music, exploring the abysmal pathology of modernity - illusion of progress, dissolution of memory, abandonment of higher meaning and paralysis of the will - the advanced lethargy of human spirit. The rich structure of music plays subtle tricks on the listener's subconsciousness and the mood slowly drifts from quiet melancholy to visceral intensity. An example on how to use analogue and digital equipment in creating a special way of sound. Mastered by Jerome Nougaillon (Propergol) and presented in a digipak.

Rome ROME - 'Confessions: d'Un Voleur d'Ames' CD (Cold Meat Industry)

"Confessions..." is a call from a world where love and despair are locked in an embrace. A black craving in the fangs of war, the joys of stealth in a riot of blossoms. This second album is much calmer and rather more personal than "Nera". These confessions are often dark and poetic, sometimes brutal, but most of all intimate. Again you will find traces of all kinds of genres of obscure music; Ambient, Neoclassical, Dark Wave, Apocalyptic Folk, Military Pop and Martial Industrial. The tone is less militant, the main themes being treachery and sacrifice, temperance and composure. First 3000 copies in a digipak with silver print.

Rome’s particular brand of post-industrial folk, combined with new-wave song-writing and neo-classical arrangements, takes on a new and poppy twist. But these outstanding songs have way too much depth to be dismissed as mere pop music. This third album is of a more subtle darkness and probably Rome’s best work to date. A work of art of extreme sincerity, "Masse Mensch Material" revolves around the themes of love, faith and endurance. Rome has created a fascinating world of contradictions which each song lays out with clarity and with all the cruelty and kindness intact. Presented in an embossed digipak.

The black atmosphere of 'Nera' weighs heavily on the soul. However, Rome manages to include warmth and affection in its cold world of steel. The songs are full of citations, abstractions and ideals. The marching and counter-marching of doubtful armies luring our love away, with icy and bitter irony. These are some of Nera's interlocking themes in a world scorched by the wastefulness and cruelty of war. Less martial and post-Industrial than their debut EP, 'Nera' is a much more accessible, almost new wave offering, though there is still a sprinkling of Neoclassical added for good measure. Split release from two US acts: Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation, 5/5/2000) and Death By A Thousand Cuts. Travis Ryan's four tracks open the disc with an edgy, paranoid ambience that mixes environmental buzzes and electronic hum with blurry theremin melodies and hushed buzzsaw tones, evoking the faint but discernible hum of electricity you feel when standing at the edge of an urban landscape in the middle of the night. Death By A Thousand Cut's nightmarish free electronic designs are conjured from noxious bass sinewaves and cloudy keyboard drones, curling upwards out of metal-on-metal carnage and blasts of laser-beam effects-pedal violence, and the music becomes strangely beautiful, especially with the cosmic Troum-meets-Bastard Noise insectoid frequencies of final track "Approach Of The Black Claw".
