R.Y.N. are a UK-based duo probably best known for their Astral Death CD (Unrest Productions) and an excellent 7" on Drone Records. On this vinyl-only release R.Y.N. present 44 minutes of completely new recordings: a mix of archaic, unsettling, new and melancholy. This album took many months to record as a result of the careful attention paid to the record by the duo. This LP provides both classic R.Y.N. darkness plus even heavier oppressive, dark, soundscapes that can only be fully appreciated on vinyl over the two side-long tracks: Archaic Techniques Of Ecstacy and Provisional Sketch Of The Mind. If you don't know their work then this is definitely worth exploring. If you do know them then this is a must. SIMON WHETHAM & FRIENDS - 'Meditations On Light' 2 x CD (Monochrome Vision)
In 2009 Simon Whetham was commissioned by painter Kathryn Thomas to compose a surround sound composition and installation to accompany her Darkspace project, a series of paintings inspired by the infinity of the cosmos, which was exhibited as part of her biggest solo exhibition to date, 'Lightyears'. The composition was mixed down to a stereo version, mastered by Scanner, and released on Simon's own label, Traceable Echoes, for the exhibition. Simon reworked the raw materials of 'Lightyears', as he felt the brief was very restrictive, and wanted to hear the results of using the same material without these constraints. He also offered the opportunity to artists, who produced their own characteristic interpretation of the composition: Christopher McFall, David Wells, Fourm, Iris Garrelfs, John Kannenberg, Lawrence English, Maile Colbert, Mise En Scene, Philippe Petit, Richard Lainhart, Scanner and Yann Novak. A common thread is evident, but very individual voices are heard, leading you on an immersive, engaging journey... Ltd x 500 copies.

Coming from the master of Lithuanian post-industrial, Laurynas Jukonis (Oro!Oro!, Girnu Giesmes), this project reveals his sincere interest in the roots of the civilisation, the beginning of the archaic, multi-meaningful, solid and conflictless reality. Svaixt's music consists of deep, pulsating and very transparent ambient building up a mystic, arcane atmosphere. The value of the album lies in the absence of digital sounds, recorded only by playing single brass percussion, inducing meditation and providing the sound with a strong oriental zest. Originally self-released in an edition of 50 copies, the album is now complemented by new artwork and presented in a limited edition digipak of 500 copies.
