Acid Mother's Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO - 'Ominous From The Cosmic Inferno' CD (Essence Music)

(2006) What this powerful Japanese quartet delivers on their 6th album, "Ominous From The Cosmic Inferno", is a nothing short of amazing. A super wild, punishingly dark slab of experimental psychedelic hell where fuzz blasted, ultra riffing and hypnotic speed guru guitar chaos (courtesy of Kawabata Makoto) meet early Amon Düül-influenced druggy, acoustic, mantric folk experimentalisms and eastern drones from below. The scent of sulphur fills the air and brings on the Japanese psychedelic inferno! Presented in a deluxe, sturdy gatefold mini-LP package featuring cosmic artwork by Jason Killinger and including a striking pop-up! Ltd x 1000. Brazilian import.

(2008) An incredible album from Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound) and Jean-Hervé Peron (Faust). Here is something that sounds like a both a “Krautrock” album and also like nothing you can imagine. Its twists and turns keep surprising and thrilling you several listens on from the first. The words “classic” and masterpiece” would not be out of place here. Both Faust and NWW are touring all over the World this year, and profile for both of these legendary acts has never been higher.   Atrax Morgue ATRAX MORGUE - 'No More' CD (Ars Benevola Mater)

(2005) "Atrax Morgue seems to have reached the terminal stage, after more than 10 years of aberrant activity in music de-composing and sound's murder. "No More" is a non-compromise work, a reflection of a man that is watching his end, the cold analysis of the inutility of any action. Obsessive, schizophrenic, violent minimal electronic sounds are a soundtrack of a cold hell of nothingness and purity. But the only words that can explain this work are two and simple: NO MORE!!!"   Beehatch BEEHATCH - 'Beehatch' CD (Lens Records)

(2008) Beehatch is a project from Phil Western (Download, Plateau) and Mark Spybey (Dead Voices On Air, ex-Zoviet France). The album was recorded in Los Angeles and England via internet file sharing. Far from being an impersonal way of making music, this technique has liberated the approach to the making of this album. The musicians were able to make music at leisure, in familiar environments. Phil and Mark have developed similarities in an approach to music making but in essence, Phil emerged smiling from the generation electronic and Mark slowly crept out of the distant days of four tracks and homemade instruments. Both are seasoned improvisers who started life as drummers and tend to ignore as many of the so-called ‘rules of music making’ as possible. Nothing is clear. Everything is possible. Accidents are encouraged. Presented in a 6-panel digipak.

Daniel Menche DANIEL MENCHE - 'Creatures Of Cadence' CD (Crouton / Longbox Recordings)

(2006) "Creatures of Cadence" finds Menche in full exploratory mode; excavating well-concealed networks of sonorous information through a systematic deconstruction of drone and pulse. In the process, he further erases any perceived division between hearing / feeling and performer / instrument. The result, if consumed at the appropriate amplitude, is nothing less than a sixty minute journey through a voluptuous and pristine mania. Released in an edition of 500, including three full colour inserts and overwrap with images of detailed bird drawings peppered with a whisper of the disturbing by Eric Stotik. A fitting visual analogue to the vehement beauty of the aural.

(2004) "Edge Of Nothing" was first released in a cassette edition of 5 (!) copies on Jackman’s Aeroplane imprint, and then included on the legendary “The Elephant Table Album” DLP in 1983 (feat. Coil, Nurse With Wound, SPK, Lustmord etc). Both tracks presented here are the January 2003 mixes of the original material, which was derived from variously stimulating a cymbal with bows, knuckles, loops etc. An extremely dense piece of experimental noise where (allegedly) the B side is the A side reversed. (2007) Death Unit is a super group of total psychedelic noise destruction, formed by Carlos Giffoni in early 2005, which includes Chris Corsano and Trevor Tremaine (Hair Police) and Brian Sullivan (Mouthus). Covering all areas From total minimal graveyard tonal strange work to massive wall of drums /electronics / guitar assault, Death Unit was put together with one purpose: to leave nothing alive behind. "Infinite Death" captures the absolute essence and energy of Death Unit by combining a long studio track recorded at Sonic Youth's Echo Canyon studio with a scorching ferocious live track recorded on Death Unit's 2005 summer tour. Artwork by Dominick Fernow (Prurient) and mastering by James Plotkin (Khanate).

Desiderii Marginis DESIDERII MARGINIS - 'Strife' CD (Cold Meat Industry)

(2004) "Strife" is, as the name implies, a sort of reflection over the rather pitiful human desire to engage in all kinds of conflict. Everywhere and always. Often strife takes the form of mere pointless destruction for no purpose. That particular lack of meaning is what this album is all about. "War is a continuation of politics" von Clausewitz wrote in the 1830s. Guns go silent only to discover that nothing has really been accomplished. Old structures of injustice remain, recent conflicts are added to old ones. The music on this album is not intended to sound like the blazing guns of a world at war. "Politics are firmly rooted in the present. Strife itself is eternal. The music is, as always, a personal way to deal with and express the ever-present madness of man. Nothing changes, everything is new."

(2000) Released on CD on UK act Dual's label CEE, this full length album comprises six tracks over 48 minutes and is an accomplished release of pure unfettered energy bursting to the seams. Forever bringing the sounds clearer to the front and then demolishing into pure nothing. Crackling interference and bubbling rhythms compound from a foundation built of syncopated static and whispers leaving the spinning clicks and tones to gyre and tumble beneath.   Endura ENDVRA - 'Black Eden' CD (Red Stream)

(2005) Reissue of the long deleted classic, originally released in 1996. Endvra are electronic soundscape alchemists Christopher Walton (TenHornedBeast) and Stephen Pennick (Ontario Blue), combining synths with (un)healthy doses of Crowley, Lovecraft and psychedelic chemical enhancement. Nothing in the Dark Ambient category has ever emerged to dethrone this work of sinister aural mystery. "Black Eden" is a HP Lovecraft tale set to music: medieval devil worship and sabbat dancing invoking preternatural beasts which inhabit the realm of Cthulhu and are spoken of in the fabled "Necronomicon". A truly horrifying masterpiece. "Gold Edition".

(2008) "We Could For Hours is instability. It represents the will to open the gates of unknown. It is the dark, whispered sounds and hidden truths. Chaos. And now here it starts, everything takes form, sensations rise, objects acquire colours, distorted vision but still a vision of reality... Silence. Sounds follow themselves but always hidden in a veil of mystery, words are mute, everything is listening attentively to the enchanting melody of nature... Everything is nothing. Nothing is the time. Time becomes memory and memory brings us to happy thoughts that rise first, then fall in the end. Hallucinations. The precariousness feeling is overwhelming us, tollings of a clock without hands are molesting our ears and they scan the slow and endless flowing of life. Too late to be back. There's no possibility. We have to live desolate countrysides burnt by an August sun. Lysergic vision. Void." Krautrock, Drone, Experimental, Ambient. Digifile.

Faryus / Oophoi FARYUS - 'Night Forest Reality' CD (Faria Records)

(2008) Faryus is St. Petersburg ambient drone artist Andrey Faryus (Oöphoi). "Night Forest Reality" describes "a world which does not exist in daylight, arising when the last dying beam of sunshine fades from dark shaggy branches of old trees, when air becomes damp and hearing sharpens. A constant feeling of someone's presence... From the impenetrable darkness in the heart of the wood, a cool wind forces leaves to tremble, hardly distinguishable in the twilight... a touch of cold air to the face, a suggestion of swaying branches, sparkling streams and the rustle of revived grass. Dew drops barely sparkle in the gloom, reflecting the stars blinking in bottomless moonless depth. The night wood, frightening and attracting, living an invisible life, populated by unfamiliar ancient beings. Almost nothing visible in the impenetrable darkness, but exposing its mysteries via sounds of the unseen". Ltd x 500 copies in a special outsize package with inserts.

Jason Crumer JASON CRUMER - 'Ottoman Black' CD (Hospital Productions)

(2008) "Ottoman Black" is an album of midnight drones and true noise. Using powerfully clear electronics as a base for declarative noise bursts, Crumer manipulates the sounds with a resounding animosity. In the vein of Pedestrian Deposit and Air Conditioning, Crumer yields his mean streak to an array of silences over the course of the album. The theme here is personal relations; tracks like "Betrayal After Betrayal" have a conversational quality, both the screams and the muffles, the physicality. "Where Were You" is an actionist-influenced piece of torture. There's nothing not painful here, especially the quiet; the peaks are almost a relief. Ottoman Black is a stern and unforgiving universe.   Mecha Orga MECHA / ORGA - '56:24' CD (Absurd)

Mecha / Orga is the name chosen by Yiorgis Sakellariou from Greece. This work, indicated by it's length, was created one afternoon in February 2006, and played live thereafter a couple of times. The length becomes the title, and the listener can come up with his or her own story. Over the course of the fifty-six minutes and twenty-four seconds Sakellariou plays a slowly unfolding piece of Drone music, which grows in intensity throughout. When you think nothing more can be added, he adds another layer. And another. And another. Most suitable to play in the dark, at night. Or during the day, outside, watching plants grow. Multi-purpose music, I'd say. Great stuff. Powerful music. [FDW / Vital Weekly]. Presented in a full-colour wallet.

Nothing has been addressed as a hybrid between Lycia and Raison d'Etre. The American duo merge a healthy dose of Industrial textures with the more ethereal elements provided by monumental keyboard and piano incursions, often with a romantic flavour to them, and whispered mysterious male vocals that turn out quite similar to those of Lycia. The way that the softer and more atmospheric Darkwave elements combine with the harsher tones and intimidating Industrial material proves to be highly original and innovative, especially when they get around to fusing both together. This session was edited down to a total of 40-minutes which wanders ongoing through free folk, psych, improv, spaced out, hippy jamming and noisy-rock bizarreness. The collaboration of both America's and Finland's weirdest, is nothing less than sensational. Presented in a 6-panel digipak.
