BAIN WOLFKIND - 'Wasteland' MCD (Hau Ruck!)
(2007) This is Bain Wolfkind's fourth release on Hau Ruck! under this moniker. This release finds Bain Wolfkind treading a similar path to previous releases, only this time much darker, autobiographical, tragic and southern than ever before! Purely a solo 'back to basics' release with guitar, organ, tambourine, maracas, voice and nothin' much else. Think Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Young, Hank Williams and Michael Gira in a Mexican flophouse with a cheap guitar, a case of tequila and a tape machine. Digifile.
MICHAEL GIRA - 'Songs For A Dog' LP (Lumberton Trading Company)
(2006) Over the years, Michael Gira (Angels Of Light, ex-SWANS etc) has honed his craft into something more sophisticated without actually having lost sight of the power, emotional tugs, or even the simplicity of his earlier works. On 'Songs for a Dog', he has collected ten tracks (mostly culled from releases only available via his website, plus three unreleased tracks), that catch him in his purest form. Mostly built around his guitar and voice in a home studio environment, the songs here expose perfectly how he can function without the layers of sound he's also often fond of exploring. These songs capture an artist who seems forever capable of pushing himself into new avenues. Ltd x 2000 copies in textured packaging, complete with insert and pressed on heavy vinyl.
