DER TOD & DAS MADCHEN - 'D-Moll' CD (Lichterklang)
Der Tod & Das Mädchen started out in 2009. Their debut album "d-Moll“ is a musical anthology of long forgotten lyricists, harking back to the death of Goethe. The elegies, all evolving from the 19th century, reveal the sadness and the pain of the loss of close relatives. Melancholy and transience, deathwish and madness, dream and reality crystallise themselves out of these thoughts and build the centre of "d-Moll“. Inspired by componists of the romantic times, the extict poetry is mainly based on the dark and melancholic tunes of a piano. The closing words by the German imperator Wilhelm II. from 1904 build the end of the album, questioning the human arrogance with his words "the world is so big and we are so small, how come that we expect to circle everything around us?". IN SCHERBEN - 'Dort An Jenem Baume...' CD (Lichterklang)
In Scherben's third album is not just the result of their acquired musical maturity, but an affectionate commitment to the concept of "Heimat", which can be experienced in their lyrics and in their musical interpretations of poems by Eichendorff, Nikolaus Lenau and Gottfried Benn. A romantically idealised understanding of 'homeland' and its cultural and social origins is transformed into a groundbreaking declaration of love, dedicated to one's own roots. In Scherben's musical versatility and sparkling instrumentation is far from being restricted to clichés of the genre, but open up new horizons of classically inspired Neofolk, in the tradition of Forseti or Dies Natalis. SPREU & WEIZEN - 'Gott Vergelt's' CD (Lichterklang)
The second full-length album of Munich's Spreu & Weizen is a conceptual album concerned with the fall and second rise of the Roman Empire. As opposed to the aspiring Bavarians' first album, this CD can no longer be classified as purely neoclassical, which is mainly due to two new members who have had a strong impact on the project's sound. Apart from powerful slogans and fiery guitars, we are presented with an enticing melange of melancholic neoclassicism and gloomy Christian folk that has a decent Italian touch. Features collaborations with Von Thronstahl, Art Abscons, Rose Rovine E Amanti and Karma Marata.
