BLACK SUN PRODUCTIONS & VAL DENHAM - 'Somewhere Between Desire And Despair' CD (Tourette)
A full length Black Sun Productions album featuring the legendary Val Denham. An alchemical journey through the wild boys world. Homosexual overtones inform much of Black Sun Productions material but with Val Denham, a transgendered figure, the focus moves on to a new form of sexuality. It's clear that Massimo & Pierce haven't forgotten their past association with Coil, with shuddering rhythmic electronics and dark electronics. Somewhere Between Desire and Despair is much more fun-filled than previous Black Sun Productions. It strikes a balance between electronic music and cabaret music, and a balance between poignancy and absurdity. Features collaborations with Bahntier and Testing Vault. Digipak with artwork by Val Denham.

DIFFERENT STATE - 'Yield (Capacity Of The Production)' CD (Zoharum)
This release contains remastered versions of pieces which were published on the "Yield" tape (1995, I&E SPM), plus 2 bonus tracks from the "Cardinal Mosaic" CD (1999, Cpt. Sparky). The following was stated 15 years ago when this material appeared on stage: "Americans have Ministry, Britons have Godflesh and Poles have Different State". It’s the best what we can tell about this CD. These words say everything about the climate of this material. "Yield" is the most 'metal' from all industrial, or the most industrial from metal productions of Different State. We will not have to convince the old fans but those who haven’t heard this CD yet but like projects of J.Broadrick & co. will be delighted. 6-panel digipak.

GOVERNMENT ALPHA - 'Venomous Cumulus Cloud' CD (Troniks / PACrec)
Long-running Japanese noise legend Government Alpha returns with a sci-fi odyssey, a cataclysmic adventure of volcanic blazes and time machine blasts. A six track, forty minute barrage of extremely loud electronics. "Simply put this is one hell of a ride, its prime noise on the same level as some of Merzbow's best work." (Musique Machine). Ltd x 1000 copies in a card sleeve.
HAVEN - 'A2982' CD (War Office Propaganda / Rage In Eden)
"Let us not be deluded by the spells of this sorcerer; because the first sounds overturn time's acknowledged and safe definition and begin constructions of different, weirder spaces. This is the last chance to resign and turn back. Otherwise, when you listen to the end of first track the only thing left to say is "Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore". You begin your own, separate (and the longest?) journey. What do you see on your way? What unknown lands, traditions, incomprehensible rituals and dialects will you discover? I don't know. But I am sure that if David Lynch ever undertook the filming of "Alice in the Wonderland" the soundtrack of the movie will be filled with the music from A2982". Experimental / Electro. Digipak.
The fifth album of one of the most interesting projects on the Polish independent scene is their most accessible to date and could be quite a challenge for the current [haven] fanbase. "Amity" is a bold journey through different soundscapes, linking different musical worlds: elements of ambient and post-industrial electronica soaking in an experimental sauce, spiced up with oriental melodies and the beautiful voice of Magda Glocka. An attractive alternative for listeners from the outside of the independent music circle. 6-panel digipak.

HINTERGEDANKEN - 'Hintergedanken' CD (Barbarian Records)
Prog / Psych-Rock wizardry from metaphysical media gurus Karen Eliot and Clay Ruby. Their message for the faithless faithful takes the form of an infinitely cosmic psych / prog beast, much in the vein of '60's private press killers such as Yahowa 13 and Frolk Haven. Hintergedanken spews non-local quantum froth from the far realms of Zothyria, which blows over the quivering cadavers of their sacred zombie prostitutes used in the eerie twilight rituals of the forbidden bongload. HYBRYDS - 'Soundtrack For The Antwerp Zoo Aquarium' CD (Zoharum)
Reissue of a long-deleted classic album by this legendary Belgian project. 'Soundtrack For The Antwerp Zoo Aquarium' is an unusual album, even in comparison with other Hybryds works. It was created especially for the 150th anniversary of the Antwerp Zoo. The music composed by Sandy and Hermann (Ah-Cama Sotz) was woven in between the sounds of dolphins, killer whales and the noise of the underwater world. "Soundtrack For The Antwerp Zoo Aquarium" is a musical journey of the similar stature as "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" by Julius Verne. Let it be the best recommendation for those who haven't had a chance to get to know to one of the best and most interesting albums in the Hybryds discography. Digipak.

MACHINEFABRIEK - 'Vloed' CD (Cold Spring CSR138CD)
'Vloed' is a collection of (slightly edited) live performances, recorded between 2006 and 2008 in Amsterdam and Den Haag. "All performances find Machinefabriek in fine form, offering up thick billows of warm guitar shimmer, fluttery staticky ambience, and at one point some uncharacteristically heavy super distorted metallic guitar, but here, it's not so much metal as simply a mighty drone, thick and throbbing and super intense. There are long stretches of near silence and super minimal high end drone, glimmering slow building crescendos, squalls of distorted choral buzz, warm whirring metallic reverberations, shimmery and dense black dronemusik, all the stuff we love about Machinefabriek" (Aquarius). Beautifully remastered with a 20-minute bonus track, 'Vloed' captures the immersive live experience of a Machinefabriek concert. Presented in a stunning matt digipak with modified artwork.

SHIFT - 'Have No Fury' 7" (Heidenlärm Sounds)
First release from Swedish Noise artist Shift. The title track initiates proceedings with dark ambient soundscapes and strong industrial rhythms, developing into heavy electronics. Flipping over, 'Jag Var I Kulverten' opens into a vast industrial soundscape, carried by a subtle repetitive melody. Heavily distorted low and mid frequency textures dominate the early moments, giving way to confrontational high-pitched abrasions. Heavyweight, clear vinyl presented in a nice outsize sleeve with artwork by Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), Khanate etc). Ltd x 500.

SHINJUKU THIEF - 'The Witch Haven' CD (Dorobo)
Third part of the Witch Trilogy. Dark post-classical compositions alternating between poignantly lyrcial and furiously dramatic, set amongst disturbing supernatural soundscapes, and unsettling cinematic sound design. Blending the lush sweep of Raison D'etre, the epic grandeur of In Slaughter Natives and a surreal violence to his sound design closer to musique concrete than dark ambience, Shinjuku Thief's 2002 album delivers on all counts. Enough touchstones to satisfy the audience's appetite for familiar territory, but with enough risks to transcend cliche. This is a magnificent album! Along with the other two albums in the trilogy this comes highly recommended! Textured card artwork.
