Dave Phillips DAVE PHILLIPS - 'IIIII' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

"IIIII" continues the tradition of the unique Scimpfluch-Gruppe style found in the previous four titles; I, II, III and IIII released on various other labels. The random bursts of sounds are great but the sporadic silence is the glue that brings it all together to form a brilliant listening experience. Powerfully mastered by Randy Yau, this release has all the aggressiveness of a Series III release but the small sounds and important silence found throughout forces it into the Series II group.

Government Alpha GOVERNMENT ALPHA - 'Sporadic Spectra' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

Extremely harsh Japanese noise that changes enormously from track to track, and also changes within each track, into several different experiences. Reminiscent of a combination of Merzbow, with his rumbling, crushing noises that cycle, and KK Null's penchant for high pitched, piercing scree via guitar. A satisfying, punishing listen, quality extreme noise for those who know the difference and need the real stuff. Government Alpha delivers, and this is some of the best. Series III ('loud') in the Ground Fault series.

Guilty Connector GUILTY CONNECTOR - 'Cosmic Trigger / 2am Visit' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

Harsh Noise from Japan. A Japanese hybrid human / noise-machine that creates noise-scapes of unfathomed depths.   K2 K2 - 'In The Monotonous Flowers' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

"In the Monotonous Flowers" documents the work of Japanese sound artist K2 (aka Kimihide Kusafuka). With the exception of 1993's wonderfully titled "An Able Spy Never Eats Any Vegetables," all the tracks date from 1999, and consist of samples of TV, fuzzed-out guitar rock, cheesy jazz piano, and cavernous electro-dub thrown into the blender along with horrid cheap organs, queasy choirs, and snatches of lo-fi keyboards, coarsely chopped rather than mashed to a purée and hurled out at the listener as ten slabs of take-it-or-leave-it cut-ups. Kusafuka's pieces tend to fall apart to reveal their constituent elements, so spectacularly in fact that it's impossible to locate the artist in the midst of the seemingly formless sonic sprawl. An album full of surprises. Series II ('medium') in the Ground Fault series.

Phroq PHROQ - 'Collapse' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

"Collapse" is the result of two years of work, based on electronic manipulations of contact microphones and field recordings made in Spain (1998), Japan (2001) and Switzerland (2000-2004). With this work, Francisco Meirino explores the tension between emptiness and fullness. This work constantly swings from silence to noise, from peace to chaos. It shows that music is an energy that can open the soul to the beauty that is beyond music at the edge of sound. Series II ('medium') in the Ground Fault series.

Sickness SICKNESS - 'I Have Become The Disease That Made Me' CD (Ground Fault Recordings)

One of the most brutal CDs to exist in the last decade. Sickness (aka Chris Goudreau of Omei, V.D.) has been around for about 10 years. The sounds on this CD tear through your speaker cones and then drill into your brain. These sounds are constantly moving, panning, jumping and changing at a rapid pace. There is very little “down time” for the duration of the hour long CD. Fans of brutal harsh noise will not be disappointed. Series III ('loud') in the Ground Fault series.

Sutcliffe Jügend SUTCLIFFE JUGEND - 'The Fall Of Nature' CD (Ground Fault Recordings / Hospital Productions)

"The Fall Of Nature" is an epic, grandiose drone piece - almost one hour of pure electronics that echoes the masters of the form. The album grows in intensity throughout the recording making for an unexpected release. There are many sides of darkness and many ways to express it. "The Fall Of Nature" is the balance of sound, in a listenable format. The initial feeling is that of an almost holy, heavenly sound, the skies opening in tribute to the nature which is falling. Yet fans of classic SJ will be plenty pleased at the psychotically manic conclusion that will not disappoint any fans of PE terror. This music takes aim at several nerve centers at once. This is not just Noise, Drone or Power Electronics, but something new that mixes various elements of each together for the first time.
