ACCURST - 'Fragments Of A Nightmare' CD (Colflesh Records)
Accurst is a concept project exploring the nightmares of existence and the horrors of the subconscious. Echoing distant screams, psychotic laughter, the soundtrack to a soulless madman's dream. Psychotic vocal effects drift through the low drones and repetitive melodic elements. This is a disturbing album, which should appeal to fans of dark ambient artists like Legion, Atrium Carceri, MZ 412 and Nordvargr.
Russian post-industrial music from George Beloglazov, who also creates computer games with an unconventional author approach. The action takes place in March 1953 in an abandoned Soviet bunker - a place of strange experiments on the human psyche. The game explores such themes as the limits of mental possibilities, EVP, experiments with thought-transference and impact of fear on the human organism. The game soundtrack, presented on this CD, embodies the project's concept in sound. Imbued with an industrial atmosphere, leisurely soundscapes turn into states of calm estrangement and isolationism. Excursions into the unknown corners of the consciousness bring to its surface old memories and long forgotten yet vaguely familiar images... and laboratorial claustrophobia grows into light melancholia. This musical picture is performed in the trademark style of Anthesteria combining abstract dark ambient, melodic neoclassical and experimental sonic artifacts. Ltd x 500 copies in an A5 gatefold card sleeve with full-colour cards depicting game locations and fragments of a book about mental suggestions from 1962. Finished off in a nice card slipcase.
ARCHON ORCHESTRA - 'Pong' CD (Shadowplay Release / Muzyka Voln / Monopoly Records)
The CD cover of this band's debut album shows a collage with a fragment of a Renaissance painting on which biblical saints look at the "sky" above them and see the game "Pong" being played there (a cult arcade game from 1972, first game by Atari). What could this marvellous picture mean? Let the listener decide. The main instrument on this CD is the organ, in fast mechanical sequences, typical for the Berlin school of electronic music. Simple compositional structure meets vivid expression, liturgical atmosphere and a sublime metaphysical line running through the whole concept of the project. Archon Orchestra deal with clearly structured music lying in the intermediate plane between the so called 'holy minimalism' and 'repetitive music'. Recommended for lovers of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley and Recoil ("Hydrology").

BARDOSENETICCUBE - 'XXX' CD (Aquarellist)
This album is inspired by the life and works of Nika Turbina - a poetess who started to write grown-up tragic poems when she was only 4 years old, with her first book printed when she was only 9 (later translated in 12 languages). After living pathologically strange life, receiving the "Golden Lion" prize, and being held in mental hospital, at the age of 27 Nika tragically died falling down from the 5th floor window. The musical dedication of Bardoseneticcube is presented in 12 untitled tracks filled with surrealistic feelings and some childish morbidity. Obscure loops and industrial soundscapes are buried under a pile of rhyme wreckage, melody fragments and almost chaotic manifold of strange sounds. Ltd x 509 hand-numbered copies.

CIRCLE - 'Rautatie' CD (Ektro Records)
Circle is ever changing, ever Circular. On "Rautatie" the Finnish six-piece once again dives into uncharted waters of music, into a miasma of influences that feels vaguely familiar but, in an uncanny way, is not quite real. "Rautatie" is epic hard rock and colossal riffs that corrode into fragments of black metallic atonality over time. Occasionally the album’s majestic elements step aside and let sprinkles of athletic boogie take the center stage. Together the eight tracks on the album form a hard rocking bullet train, speeding ever onwards on a circular railroad to infinity.

CLAUDIO ROCCHETTI - 'Every Live Is Problem Solving' CD (Silentes Minimal Editions)
A suggestive gallery of abstract images, confused fragments of life, lived experiences, sights of urban landscapes. DSM is now the sole project of Guido Huebner, who has been working in the medium of sound and found objects since the early 1980s. DSM have their very own take on the patialisation of sound and the moving around of sonic objects in the stereo field. The overall impression is of rawness and fragility at the same time. FRANCISCO LOPEZ - 'Amarok' CD (Glacial Movements)
Two years of hard work have been employed using sounds and processed field recordings. It’s a unequalled conceptual soundscape in this artist’s huge discography and it perfectly joins to Glacial Movements aesthetics. After a few seconds from the track beginning we are dip into an arctic trip which lasts more than an hour and in which tangled weavings in a masterly fashion handled by the Spanish artist appear, develop and dissolve. Gusts of arctic wind, the Amarok’s wheezing breath (Amarok is the name of a gigantic wolf in Inuit mythology) and the sense of loss in the polar night are only some of the sensations that this cryogenic hallucinatory acoustic is able to evoke. LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUIT - 'Demain, C´Etait Hier' CD (Equilibrium Music)
"Demain, c'était Hier" perpetuates Les Fragments De La Nuit's timeless musical quest, blending the radiance of the stars with the dark forces that lurk in the Night. The French ensemble have kept faithful to their trademark style, in which pulsing piano chords set the pace for the string-work woven by cello and violin, haunted by female choirs. The album holds quiet, melancholy-driven moments, that flow into stirring, violent passages and ceremonial atmospheres. The band take contemporary / Neoclassical music beyond its typical standards, recalling the works of composers like Steve Reich, Philip Glass or Arvo Pärt with those of formations such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Balanescu Quartet or even the sinister cult-band Magma. A unique musical universe that takes form in an overpowering nocturnal masterpiece. 6-panel digipak.

LNGTCHE - 'Music For An Untitled Film By T. Zarkkof' CD (Etude Records)
The debut album from this project is an obscure piece for the widely unknown Russian auteur T. Zarkkof. A 44:22 minute long soundtrack of dark isolation, drones and exploration of ambient music, blending electronic soundscapes with the sound of raw guitar. A beautiful, haunting and darkly complex work packaged in an exclusive triptych panel with brilliant artwork by SELDON HUNT (also known for his artwork for Sunn O))), Earth, Troum, Neurosis, Z'EV etc).
Swedish folk / industrialists Lovac is a new band with old roots, having already released a full-length CD of Death in June covers on Douglas P.'s NERUS label under the name Down in June. With a distinctive "totenpop" vision they re-invented the songs to the delight of both Death In June fans and music journalists who discovered the treasure of Douglas P. songs anew. Lovac’s music evokes a night-of-the-world mood that deftly calls down the nostalgia of romanticism and overlays it with a war machine blowing a cold breeze of death into the dawn. Lovac is part of a larger movement of modern European pop music that draws inspiration from traditional folk music and brings it to new life in a fertile clash with the contemporary minimalistic industrial scene. Combining this music with text fragments from Karl Marx, Antonin Artaud and Percy Bysshe Shelley, “Apes of a Cold God” invites the listener to take a deep look into the abysmal underside of civilization. Lavishly printed mini-LP style sleeve with gold foil blocking and an eight page booklet.
MAEROR TRI - 'The A.V.E. - Tapes / Live In Nevers' CD (Zhelezobeton)
Maeror Tri existed from 1988-1996 (members now recording as Troum and 1000schoen). Over those nine years they made a serious contribution to the development of the European post-industrial scene, focusing on the transcendental quality of sound, its ability to expand consciousness and to awaken timeless and non-personal spiritual experiences. They recorded their industrial drone ambient music with the use of guitars, percussion, tape loops, various objects and effects, turning everything in a coherent flux of unconscious drones. This CD contains the last unreleased recordings by Maeror Tri. Four tracks are fragments of the band's 12-hour concert at the Audio-Visual-Experimental festival in Arnhem, Netherlands in November 1995; the fifth track is a part of their performance at the Musique Ultimes festival in Nevers, France in May 1995.
