Andrew Liles ANDREW LILES - 'In My Father's House Are Many Mansions' CD (Fourth Dimension)

Various artists remixing, re-ordering, adding and subtracting the recordings of Andrew Liles: Aaron Moore, Aranos, Band Of Pain, Bass Communion, Colin Potter, Darren Tate, Freiband, Irr. App (Ext), Jonathan Coleclough, Nurse With Wound, Paul Bradley, Ruse, The Hafler Trio, Unsong and Vidna Obmana. "It is interesting to note that as much as these tracks are made by individual artists with individual styles, this CD still sounds as a coherent project, which makes for enjoyable listening and is probably why this is released under the name Andrew Liles. Another intriguing and highly enjoyable addition to the already impressive Liles-catalogue" (Vital Weekly).

Circle CIRCLE - 'Triumph' 2 x CD (Fourth Dimension)

This release gathers recordings for a session at WFMU, recorded during their second US tour and captured live on the 25th September 2007. Spread over the four sides are the six cuts which made up Circle’s second session for WFMU, once more capturing the self-proclaimed New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal outfit proving themselves to be almost everything but ‘Heavy Metal’ despite possessing the only too apparent ability to compete with the best amongst that world. Taking in operatic vocals, unearthly mulch, psychedelic splurge, nods towards folk and krautrock, and mammoth riffs capable of knocking down nearby buildings, avant-rock has rarely arrived both so potent and in dire need of a straitjacket before. Gatefold digisleeve with printed inner sleeves.

  Shifts / Entracte / VinylLP SHIFTS - 'Trees / Leaves' LP (Entr'Acte)

After a decade, this record is Shifts’ probable farewell. Initiated by Frans de Waard (Kapotte Muziek, Freiband, Goem etc and label boss of Korm Plastics) for a ‘soft guitar’ record on Fourth Dimension label in 1995, the project has evolved to include many releases, all distinguished by their singular instrumentation (including two deviations from the guitar - Sonates and Interlude uses the piano, while One Piece for Cymbal has a single cymbal). 'Trees / Leaves' was made with a four-string Spanish guitar de Waard bought for 1 Euro on Koninginnedag (Dutch Queen’s Day) in 2004. Ltd x 200 copies in a heat-sealed sleeve.

Tabata Mitsuru TABATA MITSURU - 'Mankind Spree' CD (Fourth Dimension)

"Mankind Spree" is the latest solo album by Tabata Mitsuru (Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva), which is every bit as good as one may expect from an artist who has the power and vision to soundtrack time folding in on itself whilst simultaneously pushing the psychedelic envelope into realms where melodies, static white crackle and overflowing rivers of electronics converge like the very points where sanity opens its welcoming hands to madness. Featuring several guests, including Acid Mothers Temple's synth player, Higashi Hirosh, "Mankind Spree" comprises seven cuts that cough 'n' splutter over angular rhythms, suck up noise as colourful and beautiful as a perfect rainbow, hit back with some melodic scree and never stray too far from Tabata's keen ear for those rather more avant-strained sensibilities.

The Fields Of Hay THE FIELDS OF HAY - 'Songs For Nine Ladies' CD (Fourth Dimension)

The Fields of Hay The is a solo enterprise of Stuart Carter (Splintered, Theme). This debut release comprises five loosely cohesive pieces, created with simple patterns, organic samples, electronic sound effects, field recordings, voices and digital manipulation as an exercise in nature versus technology. The moods it nudges into view is, in equal measures, calm and intense, melodic and improvised, warm and inviting, and listeners should be able to almost feel the sun on their face during the opening piece. Carter is joined by Sonic Boom (EAR / Spectrum / Spacemen3) on 2 tracks.

Zsolt Sőrés Ahad ZSOLT SORES AHAD - 'Ahad's Master's Garden III (22007 - 2009): The Harmonian Blues' 2 x CD (Fourth Dimension / AudioTong)

A fantastic double CD by Zsolt Sorés (aka Ahad), Budapest-based sound artist and improviser. These two discs capture the prolific and versatile musician in a fully tranced-out fug that draws not only from his background in rock music but also his strong leanings towards the avant-garde and improvisation partly formed by being classically-trained yet never content to remain as such. In turn, we are treated to some near-mystical and transcendental journeys... contemporary psychedelia, spaceward-bound forays, expansive and drone-bound guitar textures. Inspired by Fourier's Harmonian Opera and several quotations by Hakim Bey, Sores' has created an album that resonates with depth of a nature rarely found these days. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digisleeve.
