40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya's "Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems" is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the 'smallest and heaviest of all stars' and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or 'the monitors of the universe'.

ThisQuietArmy's fourth album is partially inspired and in respect to aesthetics by the works of German visual artist Anselm Kiefer - the setting of "Aftermath" takes place in the post-apocalyptic countryside and revolves around fallen angels as unexploded ordnances. In parallel, the compositions were also inspired by the sounds of crackling tubes and failing resistors captured by amplifiers during the recording process. Drones and melodies were built around these hissing sounds to create moods of tension and transitions from the remnants of destruction. These static interferences thus remained as important compositional elements, as if the whole themed-universe stemmed from a faraway buzz, in which the dawn of a new era reveals itself. With "Aftermath", ThisQuietArmy manages to create the perfect light and heavy post-nuclear winter atmosphere, with a glimmer of hope appearing slowly like sun rays through massive dust clouds. A form of message sent from the Earth to the brightest star, composed of 20 exclusive tracks prepared especially for this compilation. Sirius is the canine planet, the brightest star of the northern sky. Known since the ancient times, it has left an imprint on forming outlooks, beliefs, religious centres in many cultures. Even the ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as a deity, built their calendar on Sirius' cycle closely connected to the Nile tides before the summer solstice. In the 20th century the interest in the magical aspect of Sirius did not die out. Thanks to the Discordian groups with R.A. Wilson (the great philosopher to whom the compilation is dedicated) and T. Leary at the head, it is still being revived. The music on the album oscillates between psychedelic drone, dark ambient, tribal and down-tempo. Some of the projects approach the theme in the vein of ritualistic music; others realise their ideas through the sounds of universe and deep dark infinite space.
