15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO - 'Resting On A' CD (Edgetone Records)
With their third full length CD, 15 Degrees Below Zero re-introduce the listener to their signature blend of guitar, digital and analog atmospheres, and noise. The trio continue to explore a territory of noise-oriented soundscapes, rich drones, flowing ambient and compositional narratives that emerge between the planes of discord and melody, but with this release, a feeling of spaciousness underlies the existing tension.

ACCURST - 'Fragments Of A Nightmare' CD (Colflesh Records)
Accurst is a concept project exploring the nightmares of existence and the horrors of the subconscious. Echoing distant screams, psychotic laughter, the soundtrack to a soulless madman's dream. Psychotic vocal effects drift through the low drones and repetitive melodic elements. This is a disturbing album, which should appeal to fans of dark ambient artists like Legion, Atrium Carceri, MZ 412 and Nordvargr.

"Orange" was the first collaboration between the two Canadian drone-doom guitarists Aidan Baker (Nadja) & Eric Quach. The result was released as an EP through Quach's imprint (TQA Records). "Orange" is now reissued, re-edited, remastered and extended into a 47 minute CD, with the addition of 4 extra tracks from the same sessions that were left behind five years ago. ALFREDO COSTA MONTEIRO - 'Epicycle - Metallic Brown Cover Edition' CD (Etude Records)
Portuguese minimal-electro-acoustic artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro surprises with "Epicycle". The steady-state, relatively drone-ish character of this 38-minute piece of work is much more fluid than his earlier work and is also based on sound recordings of his voice, although processed virtually beyond recognition. "picycle" fluctuates from roars to barely perceptible pings, often with an abruptness that initially startles but on second listen seems entirely natural, like a cloud suddenly blotting out sunlight. It's a fascinating, chillingly beautiful journey; you never feel quite safe but always have the sense you're in capable, acutely sensitive hands guided by a deep musical imagination. Comes in an outsized sleeve with metallic brown cover.

The first vinyl release of the enchanting Polish act Artefactum. Described by herself as "Female Esoterica", "Sub Rosa" opens a vast space filled with different sounds coming from very far away, as nebulous melodies, whispers, voices and choirs, little clicks and cracks, with soft percussive structures appearing on Side B. The two pieces named "Rosa Alba" and "Rosa Rubea" (white & red rose) have a strong metaphorical alchemistic background, meaning the end point of all alchemistic transmutations. The overall release including the beautiful artwork gives the impression of an almost fabulous acoustic fantasy, so refined and almost caressing yet secretive at the same time. AUTHOR & PUNISHER - 'Drone Machines' CD (HCB Records)
By squelching, triggering, amputating, stretching and tormenting sounds achieved from the execution of heavy machinery into vivid instruments, Author & Punisher offers "Drone Machines". Nonetheless, "Drone Machines" is beyond avantgarde, in that exciting sense that it brings together slow-paced Doom whips, modern technology, an eerie flood of vile drones and heavy machinery in a whole new perspective. It's also an album that is reviving the Industrial Metal genre from its ashes and rephrasing the primeval passion for that classic bestial drum pound with rancid low end and sonic-metallic scraping. The Milwaukee Noise ensemble Boy Dirt Car (including Eric Lunde) issues its first new recordings since 1988. Many of you will know the name from their appearances on RRRecords. "... I keep thinking to recognize the old Boy Dirt Car, but there is also strong memories of Impact Test [BDC member Darren Brown]. It's not easy to pin this down, but rock drone would come close I think. Slow, peaceful organ loops, heavy bass and siren like sounds, make this balancing on the fine line of ambient industrial and 'real' industrial, although this comes nowhere close to the real noise. Hard to imagine that eight (!) people play on this work. It's both retro sounding as well as new, this can be a true example for everybody who love their lo-fi noise / drone / rock music of the younger generation" [FDW]. Digipak.

CISFINITUM - 'Coniunctio' 2 x CD (Ewers Tonkunst)
Cisfinitum is one of the oldest and well-known projects in the Russian industrial scene. This 2CD set contains the tracks from the most gloomy and profound albums of Cisfinitum - "Landschaft" and "Malgyl" (previously unreleased), which were recorded during 1999-2001. The material has been remastered and recompiled to become the new entity called "Coniunctio." Going through the desperate landscapes of today's dying spiritless world, the listener comes into the sacred and surreal inner space of an immaterial land full of light, mysticism and universal melancholy. One of the most beautiful and heartfelt records in the drone ambient style, reminding of the best and saddest Maeror Tri. Second edition in gatefold digisleeve with new artwork.
The fourth volume in the "Substantia Innominata" series comes from one of the best projects of the Russian experimental-atmospheric / drone / post-industrial-scene, headed by Evgueny Voronovsky from Moscow. Cisfinitum itself means the "logic of the infinite non-existence" - that "something" that is beyond all rational things. "Devotio" uses monumental bell-sounds and hypnotic drone-waves over various layers, dissolving into pure vibrations. A journey into the heart of the sacral, pointing at a sphere of transcendence where all questions end. Or begin again. First edition, ltd x 500 copies on white vinyl.

This is the alias of Hiroshi Hashimoto. I can imagine this soundtracking an epic Samurai movie. Just when you think things couldn't any better the track switches gear and I'm left in goosebump city. 'Wavelength To Amplify' has Hiroshi bring the noise with pounding drums, manipulated samples and acidic squiggles perhaps recalling bits of Meat Beat Manifesto. 'Acid Rain 2' on the B-side has some brain melting synthesizer sounds give way to a piano motif, congas, melancholy strings and sampled dialogue then a big thumping slow and heavy kick drum drops by. FOUNDATION HOPE - 'The Faded Reveries' CD (Cold Meat Industry)
Foundation Hope was formed in 2003 by Joep Smaling. The main idea was to make dark cinematic soundscapes with a strong focus on the harshness and cruelty of everyday life. Ironically presenting itself as a foundation, an institute that comforts seeking souls in times of distress, it is instead an attempt to confront the listener with moods of isolation, despair and sorrow. Drones, strings, melancholic tunes, confusing vocal-samples and cinematic moods. A very successful follow-up to their 2006 debut "A Call To All Redeemers" (Divine Comedy Records).
Brutal ambient noise and drone/doom split from two great young acts. Ghast offers up two monsters: the 21+ minute torturous noise / dark ambient epic "Le Noye" and the ultra sick, ascetic doom mutilation "Tetanos". Avant black metal, agonising funeral doom and blackened experimental drone noise stab forth again and again until all the blood is spilt and total carnage is all that remains. Pure dread put to music. Recommended for disturbed folk into Abruptum, Khanate, Axis Of Perdition, Swans and Univers Zero. "The bleakness and sheer refusal to allow any light to permeate proceedings alongside the non-linear, sprawling nature of the tracks will alienate a lot of people, but for anyone looking for something truly extreme, you’ll have a hard time beating this" (Kerrang). Hardback digifile.
GNAW THEIR TONGUES - 'L'Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante - Black' LP (Burning World Records)
Gnaw Their Tongues transcend genres, creating their own distinct sound. Descriptors include ambient black metal, funeral doom metal, industrial drone etc. Instrumentation relies heavily on keyboards and percussion, with the drumming looming in the distance like a hideous parade before a battle is set loose. Monk-like choirs, industrial emanations, bizarre samples, occasional shrieks and droning, abused guitars are all on display, brought together almost unwillingly to share the same stage. Lyrically, L’Arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante is a concept album about death (“morte”). Songs describe the white throne of death, address the song of death and praise death’s majesty and grandeur. For many listeners, "L’Arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante" will be little more than noise or frustratingly dull drone. However, fans of the outré of the genre, where bands such as Sunn O))) and Throbbing Gristle practice their art, will find much to uncover and savour. HYIOS - 'Consuetudines' CD (Malignant Records)
The alluring debut from Leipzig Germany’s Hyios offers 7 lengthy compositions of cold ritual drones, arching trajectories, and visceral descents into subterranean caverns, where rich, kinetic textures and deep resonant tones move and morph in a fluid, serpentine fashion, sprinkled with the debris of an ancient culture and something more otherworldly and primordial. Leipzig has historically proven to be fertile ground for dark ambient and "Consuetudines" continues in the fine tradition set forth by such notable acts as Inade and Herbst9. Presented in a 6 panel digipak, mastered by Secret Lab. A great new discovery!
INORGANIC BLOSSOMING - 'Seasons Project: Autumndrones' CD (Infinite Fog Productions / Vegvisir Music / 7Hz Records)
'Autumndrones' is a name which belongs to two musicians from Siberia - Becoming and Freeall. 'Autumndrones' - can be explained as a love of autumn. They did not want to dedicate the music to this season, they wanted to write it. Therefore they music was written during the fall only, and when the first autumn passed they left the unfinished material until the next one. That is why the work took them 3 years. The whole mood of the album went through this season, even live instruments, such as violin and accordion, were recorded in fields along with the leaves' noise. The sound of nature and the human together. Mild ambient, careful noise and accidental melodies, the mix of leaves rustling, wind blowing and analogue synths singing. Ltd x 292 copies in a handmade A5 digipak.
This Swedish Dark Ambient sound sculptor (who has already shown his mettle as a member of IRM) has also released albums for such noted labels as Malignant Records, Autarkeia and Segerhuva. "Fragile Confrontation" finds Eric Jarl looking back into the sparse, cold isolationist landscapes of "Sealed Void", while instilling an undercurrent of impending violence, like a blade slowly moving toward flesh in tense, scraping frame-by-frame action. Metallic drones and static waves slide against each other as the confrontation between steel and skin comes to a mind-numbing collision. Mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D'Etre).

KALLABRIS - 'Music For Very Simple Objects' 10" (Substantia Innominata / Drone Records)
Maybe the most mysterious and thought-provoking German experimental project with recordings derived from field recordings so bizarre it's difficult to find any words for it! This work features very short sequences of concrete sounds, arranged in a structural and temporal way that the "known reality" is placed in a new frame and context, thus making it possible that the world behind may become "visible" through our acoustic senses. What is usually familiar is suspended in order to make new experiences. The acoustic elements have been configured in a certain causal formation which is not consciously perceivable within the phenomenal order. LASSE MARHAUG & MARK WASTELL - 'Kiss Of Acid' CD (Monotype Records)
In recent years Lasse Marhaug has almost become synonymous with Scandinavian Noise. From his camp in Trondhem, Norway, he's been launching release after release with brutal noise both under his real name and with groups such as DEL and parts of the Origami Republika projects. London-based sound artist and composer Mark Wastell builds enormous atmospheres on the Tam Tam (here recorded at an abandoned school in Norfolk) with very little actual movement. LICHT-UNG - 'Kristall' 7" (Drone Records)
LICHT-UNG ("glade") is the name of a label, art and sound project from Germany, with a very peculiar and rather dadaistic approach. The two pieces on "Kristall" seem to be based mainly on feedback and metal or glass sounds that are carefully put together for a strange-sounding trip. Side A consists of humming, growling drones, low siren-like sounds and high-frequency feedbacks, powerful and absorbing and very abstract, while never turning into sheer noise. Side B delivers a crystal-clear noise chant and metallic overtones processed with obscure effects. LNGTCHE - 'Music For An Untitled Film By T. Zarkkof' CD (Etude Records)
The debut album from this project is an obscure piece for the widely unknown Russian auteur T. Zarkkof. A 44:22 minute long soundtrack of dark isolation, drones and exploration of ambient music, blending electronic soundscapes with the sound of raw guitar. A beautiful, haunting and darkly complex work packaged in an exclusive triptych panel with brilliant artwork by SELDON HUNT (also known for his artwork for Sunn O))), Earth, Troum, Neurosis, Z'EV etc).
LOCRIAN - 'The Crystal World' 2 x CD (Utech Records)
Locrian's third studio album, "The Crystal World", is an epic journey. Inspired by JG Ballard’s 1964 novel of the same name that tells the story of a physician who specialises in leprosy sent to a remote African outpost to discover a jungle that is slowly crystallizing and encroaching upon everything it touches. Terence Hannum, and André Foisy are joined by Steven Hess (On, Pan American, Ural Umbo), whose contribution pushes Locrian deeper into the abyss of despair rendering a sound that is darker, bleaker, and engulfing than any of the group’s previous releases. Locrian continue the conceptual trajectory of blackened drone, manipulating tones and textures that transport the listener to an apocalyptic wasteland. At times, the layers are serene and somber, at other times they are chaotic. Ltd x 1000 copies in a Stoughton gatefold sleeve with outstanding art by Vberkvlt.
Lotus Eaters is Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), KTL), James Plotkin (Khanate, Phantomsmasher) and Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom). Previously issued on CD, Plotkin has remixed, remastered and rearranged Wurmwulv for this vinyl edition using alternate takes from the original recording sessions. The 2LP also includes reworked material from Lotus Eaters' self-titled 7" released by Drone Records. 52 minutes and 29 seconds on 3 sides of direct metal mastered 200 gram virgin vinyl, the 2LP has a drawing by Turner etched on side D. Housed in a Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket designed by O'Malley, Wurmwulv features Stephen Kasner paintings printed on linen-textured woven paper, a spot varnished interior and flooded pockets. The Kasner paintings and Turner drawings included were created specifically for this vinyl edition. Reconfigured for vinyl, Wurmwulv is a solvent-soaked carpet ride into loose soil. Worms writhe over cilia as moist roots lick and graze skin. The dampened howls of wolves reverberate through water freezing into creaking crystals. LUASA RAELON - 'The Poison City' CD (Eibon Records)
“Welcome to the poison city. A place where nuclear radiations colour the sky with green clouds, mutating vegetation suffocates the sun and asphyxiating miasms coming from abandoned toxic wastes endanger life...”. LUASA RAELON is one of the most interesting realities of US dark ambient/death industrial scene, combining low-rumbling drones with extemporaneous noise bursts to create a pretty personal and recognisable sound.
MARTYN BATES - 'Mystery Seas (Letters Written #2)' CD (Shayo)
"Mystery Seas" (originaly released in 1995 on A-Scale Recordings and now entirely remastered) is the second of Martyn Bates' (Eyeless In Gaza) "Letters Written" series. On this album he sets his songs into organ based backings, going right back to the drones of traditional song and more than this, to church music. It's an intensive sound which would appeal to fans of traditional folk and electronic music fans all at once. There is a dream state built up from these songs of drifting minimal chords and layers of vocals. What could sound sparse, sounds full and balanced. Digipak.

CD re-issue of the second installment in the "Cosmic Debris" split ART-LP series set up by Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, aka My Cat Is An Alien, on their own Opax Records. California visual / sound artist Steve Roden's contribution represents the unique experience of hearing him literally 'playing' guitar chords. MCIAA deliver another piece of 'cosmic debris', centered on multilayered echoes of voice, toy piano, space drones raising from a distant horizon, and their own physical gestures performed during the recording, which reproduce themselves through the air, re-play and give birth to echoes of real time that overcomes its own essence, becoming field recording itself, mirror and spectre of its immutability. Their track entitled also features Ramona Ponzini's Japanese bells contribution. Digisleeve.

AGALLOCH - 'Pale Folklore' CD (The End Records)
"Pale Folklore" features eight tracks (62mins) of Black Metal / Doom from this Portland act. Very elaborate and diverse, and surrounded by the majesty of nature and the burden of human existence, the album bursts with melodies with a basis of dark yet very emotional concepts. Creating auras of dark, symphonic melancholia, "Pale Folklore" turns out to be one of the most tragic, mournful yet expressive listening experiences ever!
ELYSIÜM & MONARCH! - 'Elysiüm & Monarch!' CD (Solitude Records)
Talk about your polar opposites, it’s like night and day on this one! This French pairing brings together the skull exploding grind antics of Elysiüm and the super slow motion doom of Monarch. Elysiüm splatters gray matter with four cuts in 10 minutes of noxious, hyper speed grind frenzy. Meanwhile Monarch eclipses the sun with a 58 minute dirge featuring some of the sickest female vocals ever committed to CD! Apocalyptic droning, dredging doom riffs and a fetid air of misery impact with all the subtlety of a rusted knife to the groin. If Burning is too fast for you, then Monarch! should fit just right! Second edition of 500 copies.
HIGHGATE - 'Shrines To The Warhead' CD (Totalrust)
After two years of silence Highgate is back with another grim slab of sickness. "Shrines To The Warhead" delivers four noisy tracks of almost 45 minutes and shows once again their unique powerful Doom / Black Metal / Sludge / Noise that is nasty, oppressive and suicidal. This album is the heaviest effort of the band so far. Devastating. Ltd x 1000 copies.
TREES - 'Lights Bane' CD (Crucial Blast)
2010 edition in a digipak. The debut album from the Portland quartet Trees delivers two epic tracks of monolithic, blackened doom metal with a twisted, noise-damaged approach and a dank basement vibe. Trees craft glacial abstract riffs and rivers of ashen amplifier goo that fans of feedback-laden heaviosity will find highly satisfying - a kind of grinding, slow-motion black hole psychedelia that has a similar hypnotic death-ritual quality as artists like Bloody Panda and Khanate, but with their own unique trance state of swirling guitar textures, horrific jet black dronescapes and ghoulish, excoriating vocals.

SPIRACLE - 'Evestrum' 7" (Drone Records)
THE LAST EVER DRONE EP! Spiracle is the project of Japanese artist Hitoshi Kojo. On this, the first Spiracle vinyl release, two pieces of sublime Drone-Muzak are placed, mesmerizing and mind-expanding sonic clouds. The two tracks are "focused on the physicality and the osmosis of the sound" as Hitoshi describes it. The acoustic source material comes from a glass harp, resonated trumpets, metal sheets and electronics. A kind of sonographical report of a process that a "subtle spiritual existence merges into a physical body and becomes tangible through the senses." SVARROGH - 'Yer Su' CD (Ahnstern / Steinklang)
With their 5th full-length album, Svarrogh present a very complex post folk experience, dedicated to the holy earth-water Yer Su - from the mystic and ancient Bulgarian pantheon of Tangra. It also shows the symbiotic allegiance to slavic mythology and European culture from the depths of the Pamir mountains and meadows through the slavic steps up to the Balkan realms. Traditional Bulgarian instruments sit alongside vocals in Bulgarian, Italian, English and Lithuanian, with guitars and drums arranged to a Balkan post folk and avantgarde dark folk adventure with ambient drones, elements of Industrial and Black Metal and traditional compositions. Features special guests: Kostas (Defile des Ames), Marcel P. (Allerseelen), Valentina (Der Feuerkreiner), Michael Z. (Negura Bunget) and Gyte Tamosiunate. Digipack with 12-page booklet.
SVARTSINN - 'Devouring Consciousness' CD (Eibon Records)
Debut album from this Norwegian Dark Ambient legend. Imagine a crossing between Amon and Lustmord, enriched with some dreadful melodies here and there. An orgy of bass frequencies, an apocalypse of drones, a black resounding monolith. Those who are in love with gloomy ambiences won't be put to bread and water. Experience the depths, if you're brave enough... Digifile.
TAM QUAM TABULA RASA - 'Cotidie Morimur' 7" (Drone Records)
A legendary and very original Italian post industrial group from the cassette-underground culture of the late 80’s/ early 90’s, who had their one and only vinyl release on Drone in 1995. They were at the forefront of what one could call “archaic drone-noise”. TQTR are active again these days so we decided to put this early Drone EP back into existence. A north German drone-project that has since this EP developed to one of the main German atmospheric deep droners... beautiful, dark transcendental noise. Tarkatak uses synths and other electronic devices, the music is slow, non-impulsive and dream-like. Very low rumblings, dark harmonies, some subliminal and dense backwards-effects. TERRA SANCTA - 'Disintegration' CD (Malignant Records)
Four years after the release of "Aeon", "Disintegration" finds Australia’s Terra Sancta in fine form, delivering another sweeping, dark ambient epic. Expanding on the sounds explored on his previous releases, "Disintegration" pushes the levels of intensity to new heights, featuring four long and texturally turbulent emissions of formidable power and depth. With it’s enormous washes of stormy drones and billowing, multi-layered atmospheres, these are tracks that grow and build to such a degree they seem to collapse and erode under their own weight, strewing particles into a vast horizon and creating a broad panorama of ever changing desert colored hues. THE HUMAN VOICE - 'Exit Lines' CD (Eibon Records)
Northaunt mastermind Harleif Langas gives voice to a less dark and oppressive journey with "Exit lines", and explores the thin boundary between ambient (not necessarily dark....) music and spacious post-rock. Deep drones and sparse melodic guitar lines, "skeletal" structures and subtle noises. Appealing to both the Constellation-freaks and the courageous (and open minded) dark ambient travellers. Digisleeve.
THE INFANT CYCLE - 'Secret Hidden Message' 7" (Drone Records)
The Infant Cycle is an experimental project from Ontario (Canada), active since 1992. The three pieces on this EP were created using sounds from various instruments (Trombone, guitar, windchimes, marimba, birdcage). The result sounds rather electronic and hypnotic, with bright shining drones and repetitive rhythmic patterns, loops moving into more amorphous and multilayered electro-acoustics. In spite of the rather experimental working-methods the outcome is very compact and condensed. The Infant Cycle's approach to sound is based on the belief that words and explanations can only fail to describe or explain it, what is needed is a non-verbal, intuitive understanding of the work." THE MEMORIES ATTACK - 'LP2' CD (Tumult / Noyes Records)
The Memories Attack are a duo, augmented by an occasional drummer, who sound like they were transported directly from the early 90s, bringing with them all the jangle pop, lo-fi bedroom folk, crunchy distorted guitar, gorgeous vocal harmonies, busted effects pedals, old synths, incredible hooks, shimmering metallic drones and catchy songs they could stuff into an old beat up suitcase. Every track here is some glorious strain of perfect pop, whether it's a chunk of old school college rock jangle, a burst of synth infused almost metal crunch, wild wooly lo-fi garage-y stomp, or hushed intimate bedroom pop, it's all so catchy and rocking and irresistible. And it's all held together by some sort of mysterious pop music magic that few have mastered and even fewer understand, but which never fails to totally and utterly entrance every time.

TO BLACKEN THE PAGES / KORPERSCHWACHE - 'A Way Dark' 2 x CD (Colony Records)
"A Way Dark" is a bold work from two of the most pioneering blackened noise guitar musicians working today: Texas-based Korperschwache and Dublin's To Blacken the Pages. From lighter, shoegaze inspired tracks, to harder, more abstract compositions, and of course exploring the juxtaposition of each artist's extreme guitar work. The album was a chance for both musicians to challenge other – each taking turns to suggest themes and ideas, for example each working with drum patterns and guitar structures, RKF (Korperschwache) often providing a sonic wall of drone while Paul McAree (To Blacken the Pages) would blaze guitar solos over the top. TROUM - 'Eald-Ge-Stréon' CD (Beta-Lactam Ring Records)
Welcome to the Thunderdome. Troum’s bone-cracking reverberations respirate with such ferocity that all non-Troum molecules are blown away. "Eald-Ge-Stréon" is a massive, rising beauty. It is a great becoming, and we are nothing but an ant in the afterbirth. Troum has set its controls beyond the heart of the Sunn. The pulsating inferno of these 7 drone concertos may require an insurance adjuster, but what a lovely way to burn. It is in your nature to do one thing correctly. Before Troum, you rightly tremble. But fear is not what you owe Troum. You owe Troum awe! Comes in mini-gatefold cover with strange metallic silver-blue layout by Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), Thorr's Hammer, Gravetemple, Æthenor etc) and photography by Seldon Hunt.
A continuation of Maeror Tri, this is dark, moody, contemplative ambient / drone material. "The first half of this single still sounds like Troum, but is unlike anything we've heard from them, strange looped high end guitar, what sounds like backwards chords, almost choral vocals, dramatic and haunting and cinematic... over a distant grinding low end tone drifting way off in the background, washed over by epic sweeping swells.. The other side is a bit more raw and intense, a seriously corrosive guitarscape, distorted and crumbling chordal buzz, looped and layered into a strange glacial riff... it manages to be intense and fierce but also gloriously washed out and blissful." ULTRASOUND - 'Death Comes From The Left' 7" (Drone Records)
Coming originally from Texas, the trio ultrasound (partly ex-Stars Of The Lid) are now located in Den Haag, Netherlands, and Texas, USA. With this, their first ever 7", they present two unbelievable emotional touching pieces of guitar and bass-drone-music, where long echoes of overtone guitar-sounds melt in one stream of pure sensible acoustics. Ultrasound submerges the listener into a deep salty sea to float on the frail border between air and water, light and reflection, perception and knowing. This is pure yearning transformed into sounds. Second edition of 300 copies on clear vinyl in a clear sleeve with sticker.

YAN JUN - 'Music For Listening On The Moon' CD (Kwanyin Records)
One hour of continual sound, entwined with the other dim sounds of your room. “Music For Listening On The Moon” is a continuation of “Wormhole Trip OST” (Kwanyin, 2009). "A contemplative album of innerspace travel. The album transcends its humble productions of sinusoidal flutterings of pedal sourced feedback and squiggling aquatic field recordings treated with ring modulation, as Yan seeks a radically different approach to the cosmic listening embarked by the likes of Cluster and Tangerine Dream, whose baroque expansiveness has been subsumed by the vacuum of outerspace, with just those two sources intertwining in an endless mobius strip of silvery drone and pointilist tactility. It sounds more like Steve Roden taking over an Asmus Tietchens album and allowing the electronically treated sounds and tones to organically evolve into a radiant blossom instead of the purposefully cold and sometimes stiff compositions that Tietchens often produces" (Aquarius). Digipak.
Brand new material by this cult project from the US, working with deep e-bass sounds to create an isolationist mass of darkest cosmic ambience, a kind of "black hole" ur-drone. When you put this on you are immediately touched by the cold breath of an amorph "otherness". This sound is so monumental and complex that it seems to suspend not only the mind but also the physis, and you experience intensely that both are the same anyway. There's something in this music that lets you really shiver and feel levitated at the same time. Gloriously, the self is dissolving.
