Andrew Liles ANDREW LILES - 'Ouarda (The Subtle Art Of Phyllorhodomancy)' CD / DVD DualDisc (Dirter)

Recorded in London, Paris, and Sicily "Ouarda (The Subtle Art Of Phyllorhodomancy)" is a travelogue that refuses to stay stuck in any one place for any extended period. The music is as diverse as the array of guests involved - Danielle Dax, Maja Elliott, Rose McDowall, Karl Blake, Edward Ka-Spel (Legendary Pink Dots) and Volcano the Bear's Daniel Padden all bestow unique and stunning contributions. Obscure, accessible, incomprehensible and exceptional, "Ouarda" is testament to the breathtaking production talents of Andrew Liles, arguably the most vital and original soundsmith of recent years. Side one of this disc is an audio CD including an extra track and slightly remixed version of the LP. The other side of the disc is a DVD which includes - "Ouarda (The Subtle Art of Phyllorhodomancy)" - Colin Potter Version (A film by Michael Tang with musical adaptations by Colin Potter), " Old Tom's Marrow" - A film by Andrew Liles, plus truly amazing 5.1 mixes by Freida Abtan of 3 tracks.

Annie Hogan ANNI HOGAN - 'Mountain' CD / DVD DualDisc (Cold Spring CSR132CD)

'Mountain' is an artistic collaboration between musicians Anni Hogan, Robert Strachan and Itchy Ear, film maker Bob Wass and mountaineer Cathy O'Dowd. Hogan and Itchy Ear originally worked on a series of piano pieces inspired by Rene Daumal's 'Mount Analogue' and the superior wisdom of mountains, using O'Dowds Himalayan conquests for particular authentic inspiration. Robert and Anni used these pieces and the Himalayan peaks as a template for painting a soundwave soundscape around the piano compositions. Cathy has supplied all the photographs for the album sleeve, beautifully edited by Abby Helasdottir, and Cathy has performed a fascinating and revealing monologue over the piece 'Deathzone'. The 'Mountain' film has been created by Bob Wass from Cathy's original film footage of her Everest expeditions. The film and soundtrack are an experimental 'journey' to explore sonically and visually the nature of 'journey and mountains'.

Dead Raven Choir / 7inch DEAD RAVEN CHOIR - 'Jean Genet's Lonesome Rhino' 7" (Dot Dot Dot Music)

"A three-track EP which belches out some of the most ghost-ridden, wasted, slow and obnoxious guitar punk rock you could ever hope to hear outside of that sector of Hades reserved exclusively for rock stars maudits. Astonishingly, these coarse and corruptive anthems of caustic horror all seem to have begun life as cover versions, including one of a Hank Williams song. Although there’s been a lot of post-modernist water under the bridge since The Residents released their all-time murderous butchery version of ‘Satisfaction’ by The Stones, Dead Raven Choir come close to capturing some of that same gloriously poisonous nihilism" (The Sound Projector). This is one of the last ever releases from Dead Raven Choir (aka Smolken of Wolfmangler). Ltd x 300 copies on red / black marbled vinyl in a heavy PVC sleeve.

Fear Falls Burning / 7inch FEAR FALLS BURNING - 'Dead Of Night' 7" (Dot Dot Dot Music)

Founded in 2005 as an exercise in minimalism and as a conscious counterpoint to the refined complexity of vidnaObmana, Fear Falls Burning has gradually turned into a musical meditation on purity and subdued power. As part of this transformation, the guitar has evolved from a mere instrument into a veritable shamanic tool for trance. In a sense, Dirk Serries, who has held a deep fascination for the subtle power of drone music ever since embarking on his personal odyssey in 1984, is returning to his roots here: FFB presents listeners with a primevally physical experience that is in turns contemplative, rhythmically agitated and thunderous. Ltd x 300 copies on purple splatter vinyl.

Kazuya Ishigami KAZUYA ISHIGAMI - 'Trash, Rubbish, Poor Works' CD (Neus-318)

£5 Meltdown A collection of 10 unreleased works (2004-2006) from the Osaka musician. "The music of Ishigami can best be described as a computer version of electro-acoustic music, true to the original form of Musique Concrete. Collage like, bouncing up and down, back and forth, jumping, but sometimes also with longer sustaining blocks of sound. All of which dwell heavily in the world of ones and zeros. I am not sure but it seems there is not an analogue machine in sight" (Vital Weekly). Released in a plastic snap case.

Lustmord LUSTMORD - 'Other Dub' MCD (Vaultworks)

Dub Remix EP of the Lustmord album [ O T H E R ]. Three obviously dubby, heavy and smokey reinterpreations of tracks taken from the original "[ O T H E R ] " album. Reminiscent of the "Lustmord vs Metal Beast" album, but full of gritty and stretched out riffs (think what had been done with the Melvins on "Juggernaut"), this last chapter is a bit beatier than the "Transmuted" vinyl, and fits very well with the rest of Lustmord's extremely deep and masterfully produced catalogue. Features Adam Jones of Tool. 40 minutes of music over 3 epic tracks! Comes in a shrinkwrapped card slip.

The drumming on this set of singles is by Japanese Noise King Masami Akita himself and is in an aggressive free / improv style. The noise is reminiscent of the screeching / howling thunder and lightning of the analogue days of Merzbow, combined to create a brand-new release. The result is an exhilarating blast of ecstatic overload as drums and noise combine and fight against each other.   Phase II PHASE II - 'Afterglow' CD (Ahnstern)

It has been a little over 32 since the inception and all-too-brief life span of Phase II, the prog-folk band founded by Mark Andrews (Blue Grass) and Nicholas Tesluk (Changes). Included in this expansive release are 6 songs from their original repertoire, all recorded here for the very first time. As a special reprise, all songs from their only release (a long out of print 7" blue vinyl) have been enhanced and included on the album. To bring things full-circle, Phase II is also proud to present a recording of its first all-new song of the 21st century on this CD.   Prurient / 7inch PRURIENT - 'Crossbow' 7" (Dot Dot Dot Music)

Prurient (aka Dominick Fernow) has become one of the most well-known and influential names in the noise field. Anti-technology and anti-electricity. An unconventional use of banging objects together to create music; playing with live wire, pennies, frying pans, toolboxes, scrap metal, and used shotgun shells are an example of some of his instruments he has used before. On this new material sounds and voice gradually emerge, in a distant and threatening outhouse. Ltd x 300 copies on yellow / black marbled vinyl in a heavy PVC sleeve.

ZEV Z'EV - 'Sum Things' CD (Cold Spring CSR101CD)

Through an element darkly... In the fall of 2005 Z'EV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce 'sum things / a possible form for cold dark matter', a project reflecting his take on the 'dark ambience' genre. Composed between December 2005 and March 2006, these 6 pieces endeavour to transport the listener deep into their long forgotten memories of the primal forces at the dawn of creation. Each piece is based on a single sound source. Absolutely no effects of any kind, not even equalization, were applied to the source recordings. Instead Z'EV relied solely on the stretching of the duration and pitch of the samples and then edited and mixed the results down into the heart of space. Hear then, the state of the art in elemental musics. Not to forget the beautiful packaging by artist Abby Helasdottir.
