"Before better known as Panicsville, but now moving into the realms of serious music (this new release got some sponsoring from arts councils) under his own name. The octa-thing deals with the number eight, and the three pieces here on this DVD (no images) can be played on a 7.1 installation, if you have such a thing. I only have a 2.0 installation, called 'stereo', but it sounds great still. Ortmann lists a list of instruments - mainly old analogue synthesizers and where he did his field recordings. Just as on the Schimpfluch disc, I'd say this is the small alley where noise is really interesting. Not because it's super loud, although there are points when things are pretty loud, but because of the fine balance between electronic, noisy sounds and the crackling of highly amplified field recordings which are all put together into an interesting collage of sound. Not like Schimpfluch of short and shorter sounds, but through longer pieces which work quite well. Great stuff, both of these releases and if noise is like this, I'd sign up again." (Vital Weekly).

'Mountain' is an artistic collaboration between musicians Anni Hogan, Robert Strachan and Itchy Ear, film maker Bob Wass and mountaineer Cathy O'Dowd. Hogan and Itchy Ear originally worked on a series of piano pieces inspired by Rene Daumal's 'Mount Analogue' and the superior wisdom of mountains, using O'Dowds Himalayan conquests for particular authentic inspiration. Robert and Anni used these pieces and the Himalayan peaks as a template for painting a soundwave soundscape around the piano compositions. Cathy has supplied all the photographs for the album sleeve, beautifully edited by Abby Helasdottir, and Cathy has performed a fascinating and revealing monologue over the piece 'Deathzone'. The 'Mountain' film has been created by Bob Wass from Cathy's original film footage of her Everest expeditions. ROBERT RICH - 'Somnium' DVD (Hypnos)
2008 reissue of Rich's 2001 epic! "Somnium" is a re-creation of Robert Rich's famous "sleep concerts," which began during Rich's time at Stanford University. These sleep concerts have been much discussed, but rarely witnessed. Consequently, a lot of speculation and mystery has grown about them. Rich has meticulously crafted a studio interpretation of his notorious all-night Sleep Concerts, combining newly-recorded electro-acoustic, environmental and electronic textures, with elements created for the original live events. The deep and sonorous flow of "Somnium" guides the listener through hypnogogic states, through a mysterious and ever-changing dreamscape, with levels of subtle detail that reward both active attention and background listening. The tech bit: "Somnium" is an ordinary DVD disc, playable in all regular DVD players, as well as DVD-rom drives on a PC or Mac... to put it another way, it's a DVD-video with music only, no picture (aside from the menus). The DVD format was used because to enable the storage of 7 HOURS (!!!) of continuous audio on one side of one disc! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
