CINDYTALK & PHILIPPE PETIT - 'A Question Of Re-Entry' 12" (Lumberton Trading Company)
Two incredible collaborative pieces by France's prolific Philippe Petit and Scottish goup Cindytalk built around piano, electronics, voice and that kinda trans-dimensional murmur and crackle we already love both of them for. Some background info: Cindytalk has existed since the early 1980s and, helmed by founder Gordon Sharp, survivor of the original Scottish punk scene, ex-member of The Freeze and open transgender warrior, has swung from being a band to a solo concern and back again. Philippe Petit, meanwhile, commenced his music career through the running of the highly respected Pandemonium Rdz. and BiP_HOp. A musical travel agent creating adventurous soundworlds, who in recent years has been found on a number of labels in collaboration with a number of eclectic artists including James Johnston, Lydia Lunch, K11 and Cosey Fanni Tutti. CINDYTALK - 'The Crackle Of My Soul' CD (Editions Mego)
Cindytalk have been active since 1982. During the 80s and 90s their sound was defined by broken down rock structures and abstract piano ambience. A third side emerged at the dawn of the 21st Century with a turn towards obscure computer usage, pushing all resemblance of melody and conventional texture to the outer edges. ‘The Crackle Of My Soul’ is the first full length to come from this new direction. Although very abstract in nature these 10 tracks still echo the vocal brilliance and subtle beauty that they become known for, as well as pushing back the boundaries making this an essential listen regardless if you are aware of the back catalogue or not.
