Second album by Iosophis, the Folk project born of the ashes of the Third Wave. Waldron returns to the same collection of field recordings which began this trilogy; however, he restricted himself to those with spiralling origins: resonating springs, the ocean cyclically churning over pebbles on the beach, the wafting of air around various objects... JENNIFER GENTLE - 'Live In The House Of God' SINGLE SIDED 12" (A Silent Place)
Recorded in an empty, deconsecrated church in summer 2003, this LP is another installment in an on-going series of records documenting the weird life of Jennifer Gentle in the foggy plains of Northern Italy. Basically the sound of JG's mainman Marco Fasolo going wild with an old, battered electronic piano and a bunch of sound effects, "Live at the House of God" is a side-long improvisation sharing the same spirit of those 20-minutes keyboard freak-outs Sun Ra used to record in the late 60s. Alternatively spacey and noisy, the piece is a dark, often unnerving exploration in sound, shimmering all the way through with a distinct Krautrock / early Cluster vibe. The new owners of the church were horrified and outraged by the sheer loudness of the performance, but God liked it a lot. Single-sided white vinyl in a deluxe spot-varnished sleeve with insert. MARTYN BATES - 'Mystery Seas (Letters Written #2)' CD (Shayo)
"Mystery Seas" (originaly released in 1995 on A-Scale Recordings and now entirely remastered) is the second of Martyn Bates' (Eyeless In Gaza) "Letters Written" series. On this album he sets his songs into organ based backings, going right back to the drones of traditional song and more than this, to church music. It's an intensive sound which would appeal to fans of traditional folk and electronic music fans all at once. There is a dream state built up from these songs of drifting minimal chords and layers of vocals. What could sound sparse, sounds full and balanced. Digipak.

This is the ultimate statement in Swedish Black Industrial, summoning forth the act's controversial black metal side and recalling the Norwegian church burnings of the early 90s. Having long established themselves as pioneers in the heavy drone and dark ambient scene, Nadja, now based in Berlin, continue pushing things forward with Konstruktion. Nadja's unique thumbprint shines strong mostly on the B side of this album, punishing guitar that scratches the listener's itch for heavy, churning and an engulfing sonic experience. Galena adds subtle synth and sustaining guitar lines that brew to boil just below Nadja's set threshold. Working in a similar and cohesive manner, Galena slowly stirs the pot with dark menacing synth layers, tape treatments and creeping washed out guitar. The A-Side shows Galena's strengths more prominent but again, welcoming subtle and tasteful additions by their collaborators. A wonderful example of 2 like-minded duos joining forces to express their own unique styles and creating something new and fresh out of the mist. Comes with download card.

Throughout its duration, "Ligfaerd" relentlessly smothers the listener in layers of ghostly atmosphere, but the decidedly doom-oriented black metal component is still present.
