  Aube / 7inch AUBE - 'Blau + Rot' 7" (Auf Abwegen)

On "Blau + Rot", released for the first european tour by AUBE in eight years, Akifumi Nakajima worked with an old Roland SH-12 percussive synth. The result is two long tracks (each over 6 minutes) with a nice floating mood that sometimes changes into aggressiveness, without losing its warmth. A great little record by one of the most important experimental musicians from Japan. Clear vinyl. Regular edition of 400 copies.

Burial Hex / VinylLP BURIAL HEX - 'Bagirwa Hymn' LP (Von Archives)

Two dense obscure messes, from one of the most sacred and funeral masters of the new mystics. A tribal funeral ode. This is great material from Burial Hex - a lot more subtle and mature than his early material. Two side-long pieces of rather melodic ambient that turns more and more industrial as the pieces progress. Sometimes the changes are abrupt, sometimes more gradual, but always with nice detail.   Changes / VinylLP CHANGES - 'A Ripple In Time' LP (White Label)

US Neofolk. "When the concept for this album was in its seminal stages, we came to the realization that there were several songs from Changes' earlier years which had yet to be released in any form. Some had been recorded on early "demo" tapes while others had not. Thus, it was decided that instead of using previously recorded tracks, we would return to the studio to create new renditions of these songs. Additionally, the arrangements, bridges, and harmonies were enhanced to better reflect our current style. Also included in this album are three new songs... Essentially, the album bridges the years from Changes' inception to its present incarnation." White vinyl in an embossed and gold-foiled heavy gatefold cover. Ltd edition of 700 numbered copies! US import.

Changes CHANGES - 'Lament' CD (Hau Ruck!)

From Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love lost. They've written songs foretelling a dark apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate. With their new album, "Lament", they turn their gaze inward, to their own personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in dismal dissolution. Only by being able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. "Lament" reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers to their families overnight. Also included are new versions of three of Changes' earlier works; "The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia". 13 tracks of Folk Noir. Guest: Axel Frank (Werkraum). Digipak with a 16-page booklet.

Changes CHANGES - 'Legends' MCD (Taproot Productions)

"Legends" features some of the first material recorded by Changes in their new incarnation, and is a folk rock / folk noir rendition of an Ezra Pound poem set to music. "Changes have returned to the studio after more than two decades and added the outstanding five sections to their enduring Legends masterpiece. Coupled with the Vikingesque tales of Thor and Odin, these additional excursions into the realms of superhuman heroics concern the brave deeds of notable characters such as Galahad, El Cid, Ulysses, Lancelot, Aeneas, Prince Igor, Arthur and Merlin; as well as a whole host of romantic beauties such as Venus, Penelope, Guinevere, Elvira and Sol.... Relying on the engineering skills of Robert Ferbrache, Tesluk's 12-string guitar strums and picks its way amid Taylor's smooth vocals and fine delivery. The various historical epochs represent a continuous whole but are suitably broken into six musical areas." (Synthesis)

Contrastate / srmeixner CONTRASTATE - 'A Live Coal Under The Ashes' CD (Tesco Organisation)

1992 saw the release of “A live coal under the ashes”, which was inspired by the events leading up to the changes across Eastern and Central Europe during 1989. This release marked the change conceptually in which the group’s ideas became more specific and more focused on contemporary political issues. Finally available again after many years, with remastered tracks and a new, unreleased track called: “Death follows the one eyed cow”. An album full of ambient atmospheres, drones, percussion, suitable dark narrations and some steady muted rhythms. These are intense, highly charged recordings with a powerful mystic and ritual feeling. A masterpiece of sound poetry. Comes in nice digipak.

Deadwood DEADWOOD - 'Ramblack' CD (Cold Spring CSR104CD)

“Ramblack" is the follow up to Deadwood's successful 2005 album "8 19" (CSR53CD). Over the past 3 years this Swedish artist has been toiling away, creating a new black ambient / death noise masterpiece and "Ramblack" is the result. Cloaked in a more raw and morbid sound then its predecessor, this album truly changes ones perspective of audial darkness. This analogue beast of an album layers the tonal prayers of demons and the distorted cries of angels, sickness and depravity. True Death Electronics. The soundtrack to your end. "Ramblack" features guest vocals from Norwegian Black Metal legend Maniac (Skitliv, ex-Mayhem), whose vocal approach on the song 'Forakt' shows the full range of his capacity. Truly one of the most sick and twisted pieces of sonic art ever recorded. Enjoy the disease!

Desiderii Marginis DESIDERII MARGINIS - 'Strife' CD (Cold Meat Industry)

"Strife" is, as the name implies, a sort of reflection over the rather pitiful human desire to engage in all kinds of conflict. Everywhere and always. Often strife takes the form of mere pointless destruction for no purpose. That particular lack of meaning is what this album is all about. "War is a continuation of politics" von Clausewitz wrote in the 1830s. Guns go silent only to discover that nothing has really been accomplished. Old structures of injustice remain, recent conflicts are added to old ones. The music on this album is not intended to sound like the blazing guns of a world at war. "Politics are firmly rooted in the present. Strife itself is eternal. The music is, as always, a personal way to deal with and express the ever-present madness of man. Nothing changes, everything is new."

Government Alpha GOVERNMENT ALPHA - 'Sporadic Spectra' CD (Ground Fault)

Extremely harsh Japanese noise that changes enormously from track to track, and also changes within each track, into several different experiences. Reminiscent of a combination of Merzbow, with his rumbling, crushing noises that cycle, and KK Null's penchant for high pitched, piercing scree via guitar. A satisfying, punishing listen, quality extreme noise for those who know the difference and need the real stuff. Government Alpha delivers, and this is some of the best.   Merzbow MERZBOW - 'Puroland' CD (OHM Records)

This disc from the Japanese master builds after many minutes into noise, but this is structured, rhythmic, surging blasts of localised power. Reminds of old Skullflower, Holland Skin Tunnel, a loud Nurse With Wound. This is because it feels so instrumental, almost as if a guitar or two are involved in this. From there we return to Akita's early style where the walls of noise were not so loud and thick. There are very obvious variations and mechanical changes within the piece, creating patterns and moods. Digipak.

Sieben SIEBEN - 'Desire Rites' CD (Iceflower / Trisol)

While Sieben's earlier works focused on dreamy, remote harmonies and fantasies, "Desire Rites“ deals with more personal and immediate topics. The rites of desire ask for more cutting sounds, precise rhythms and direct lyrics. We are now confronted with stronger beats, a pulse of emotions which are even more hypnotic and driving than before. This deeply personal universe reflects drastic personal changes Howden's life, with Howden completing the album alone and without the help of guest musicians. Those who have had the chance to experience Matt Howden live will find the raw energy and passion he unleashes on stage in this very album. He simply takes his violin and uses his artistic intuition to create this unique powerful sound of his. Digipak with 28-page booklet.

Simulacra SIMULACRA - 'There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood' CD (ConSouling Sounds / No Angels Productions)

Nearly 45 minutes of dark droning soundscapes, where once in a while lighter ambient passages penetrate the darkness. "Giant plateaus are slowly moving, reverberating the air with deep subterranean drones, flowing and ebbing in slow waves taking you a little deeper all the time in this sonic experience... Inside a Void is Belgian dark ambient act Simulacra back with red drones from a fountain filled with blood... There is a Fountain Filled With Blood does sound deeper and wider which makes the atmosphere more intense, darker and oppressive. These graphic drones are slowly moving as they are heavy in weight under their monolithic structure. Simulacra’s dark ambient is very minimal in approach as the changes are just coming very slow, but its progression is eminent. Its mastermind Miguel Boriau does take his time to let the sounds evolve. Deep rumbling drones with a haunted atmosphere reflecting feelings of sadness and solitude with sometimes a trace of melody.... The finest and darkest drones for dreamers who are awake" (Gothtronic).   Umbra Nihil UMBRA NIHIL - 'The Borderland Rituals' CD (Epidemie)

After their debut album "Gnoia", Finnish band Umbra Nihil present "The Borderland Rituals: - 5 long obscure, frosty compositions of hypnotic doom metal. The album was inspired by the brooding horror novel The House on the Borderland. In order to achieve a suitable claustrophobic sound and eerie, forbidding atmosphere the album was recorded in an isolated and quarantined abandoned house, sullenly crafting the band's sound into a more organic and gelatinous direction. As the troupe's sound went through changes amidst the locale of rural decay, so did the initial Hodgsonian concept of the album - turning from a mere literary reference in lyrics into a much more personal account of borderland existence.
