Bodychoke BODYCHOKE - 'Cold River Songs' CD (Relapse Records)

Formed by members of Sutcliffe Jügend and Whitehouse, Bodychoke was a noisy rock anomaly as powerful and provocative as its name would suggest. Their material was dark, violent, strangely hypnotic and defied categorisation. The band's long out-of-print final album, the bleak and depressing creative apex known as 'Cold River Songs', is now available once again. This unheralded classic has been given the deluxe treatment; the album is remastered to include 3 bonus tracks and repackaged to include first-ever printing of the bands incendiary lyrics. Criminally underrated and underexposed, 'Cold River Songs' is as intense and ground-breaking as you'd expect from a band of legendary industrial / noise / power electronics pioneers.

Corephallism COREPHALLISM - 'Corephallism' 3" CD (Apop Records / Lascivious Aesthetics)

Corephallism is the Death Industrial / Power Electronics project of Shane Broderick (Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck). Corephallism is sourced with the precise use of analogue synths and tape/record player manipulation. On this debut recording Broderick offers a brief glimpse into his struggle with personal demons of hereditary mental illness, sexual addiction and depression, which serve as subject matter. Analogue synth meditation, pulsing ambience and bleak soundscapes lead to relentless monophonic buzz saw worship. Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 300 copies in a mini jewelcase.

Dark Ages DARK AGES - 'Twilight Of Europe' CD (Inferna Profundus Records)

Dark Ages was created by Roman of Drudkh / Hate Forest in 2004. This is profound dark ambient from the Ukraine with a grim, haunting aura, full of menace and apocalyptic omens. From the breath of the Black Plague to the art of the Middle Ages, through to alchemy and the rise and fall of empires, each track sucks you into a bleak corner of European history. Total kulturpessimismus in the Lagardian vein. Originally released by Supernal Music in 2005, this reissue contains an exclusive bonus track and is released in a deluxe 6 panel digipak.   Ghäst / Abandoner GHAST / ABANDONER - 'Ghast / Abandoner' CD (At War With False Noise / Choking Hazard Records)

Two tracks each from bands coming at dark heaviness from different ends of the spectrum, but who compliment each other perfectly. The 2 Ghäst tracks are painfully slow, heavy and unrelentingly repetitive funeral dirges of ultradoom. There are some definite sludge overtones going on there but this is definitely for fans of bleak doom/sludge: think Moss / Burning Witch / Corrupted etc. Abandoner is Jay and Ryan from Unearthly Trance but this is a different proposition altogether: post-industrial soundscapes, this is almost like an alternative soundtrack to Eraserhead. Drenched in feedback, almost lost vocals, buzzing, processed guitar all come together in a massive dark, almost symphonic whole. Total void music. Ltd x 500 copies.

Gnaw Their Tongues / GTT GNAW THEIR TONGUES - 'An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood' CD (Crucial Blast)

Reissue of the extremely limited LP (Ltd x 250, Burning World Records) from this ultra heavy act. Harrowing, apocalyptic, bestial ritual music from the deepest, darkest cellars of the Netherlands. Avant black metal, agonising funeral doom and blackened experimental drone noise stab forth again and again until all the blood is spilt and total carnage is all that remains. Pure dread put to music. Recommended for disturbed folk into Abruptum, Khanate, Axis Of Perdition, Swans and Univers Zero. "The bleakness and sheer refusal to allow any light to permeate proceedings alongside the non-linear, sprawling nature of the tracks will alienate a lot of people, but for anyone looking for something truly extreme, you’ll have a hard time beating this" (Kerrang). Hardback digifile.

"A truly devastating collection of 18 songs in about as many minutes, Krupskaya's terrifying grind-metal mix overlaid with harsh noise, stuck pig vocals and creepy samples is totally apocalyptic; the aftermath echoed by the strangely beautiful scenes of nuclear wastelands that adorn the artwork" (Collective Zine). The debut album of this Israeli noise ensemble. The eight-piece group of Lietterschpich (Hebrew for litre of cum) has been boiling down foul language, obscene noise, primitive rituals and perplexing visual propaganda since 2004. Comprised of local veterans of the Israeli post-punk, industrial and electronica scenes, they quickly gained cult status in the Israeli underground.   MB MAURIZIO BIANCHI - 'Escape To Bela-Zoar’ CD (L-White Records)

"Stick with it, get it at the right volume, and the latest CD from this established industrial pioneer totally delivers. 3 long tracks of old school atmospheres, full of curdling, pulsating drones, unsettling tonal washes, and strong, black undercurrents. Minimal, but penetrating, with a palpable bleak and grim quality (track two is heart wrenching) that you just don’t get from the newer kids on the scene.   Phaenon PHAENON - 'His Master's Voice' CD (Malignant Records)

After the well received debut "Submerged", Phaenon follows things up with an even deeper immersion into a world of bleak, isolationist sounds. Whereas "Submerged" was one long and infinitely expansive drone piece, "His Master’s Voice" is broken up into four separate, but flowing tracks of sprawling and spacious ambient drift, laced with interstellar disturbances, probing, alien tones and icy shards of celestial debris…a whirling spectre of darkness and void-ic space, thematically based upon the 1968 novel of the same name by Stanislaw Lem, which is centred around the efforts by scientists to decode, translate and understand a series of extraterrestrial transmissions. As a whole, His Master’s Voice represents a logical progression in Phaenon’s sound and is the ultimate in headphone listening. In a gorgeous 6 panel digipak.

Phaenon PHAENON - 'Submerged' CD (Malignant Records)

The debut release of Polish-born artist Szymon Tankiewicz, 'Submerged' is a dark ambient tour de force. Visually and sonically enveloping, this is an album of space and texture, slowly revealing a psychoactive soundscape of majestic, arcing timbres, circadian buzzes, and expansive drones. Heavy, and cosmically weighty in the beginning, 'Submerged' evolves into something more minimalist and serene, radiating a celestial beauty, yet becoming even more bleak and suffocating as it progresses over it‘s 66 minute time frame. A must for dark ambient purists. 6 panel digipak, with artwork by K. Enderlein (LOKI). Mastered by Thomas Garrison (Control). File next to Yen Pox / Lustmord / Inade / Caul.

Prurient / 7inch PRURIENT - 'Wrapped In The Flame Of Illusion, Masked In The Clay Of Behavior' 2 x 7" (Dais Records)

Recorded within the bleak transitional period immediately prior to the sessions that would now become known as "Bermuda Drain", Dominick Fernow sketched out four compositions which can only be framed as “ambient power electronics”. Some of Fernow’s most destitute works to date, this release captures Prurient at its most vulnerable and sedate, reflective and rapt. Compositions that throw away that past decade of experience, only to start at the foundation of his art. Uniquely different from anything previous by Prurient and never to be repeated. Original exclusive cover art collage by artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Psychic TV). Ltd x 500 numbered copies on orange / purple vinyl. ACT FAST!

Ramleh RAMLEH - 'Valediction' CD (Second Layer Records)

"Valediction" is the first all new Ramleh album since 1997, and the first new Power Electronics recordings from the project for 25 years. And yet "Valediction" is no ordinary power electronics record, nor is it anything as straightforward as simply a return to their roots. "Valediction" is very much an entity of its own - both consolidating and expanding upon everything Ramleh have touched on in the past, but also digging into entirely fresh ground for the band. "Valediction" is, perhaps, Ramleh's most bleakly psychedelic creation so far. Ltd x 1000 copies in a gatefold sleeve with 8 page booklet containing photos and cut-up lyrics from some of the tracks.

Rasalhague RASALHAGUE - 'Rage Inside The Window' CD (Malignant Records)

"Rage Inside The Window" is the astounding debut album from Indiana based dark ambient artist Rasalhague, offering some of the most haunting, dread filled, and yet dynamic atmospheres we've come across in some time. Inspired by the true events of a young girl neglectfully imprisoned in filth and squalor by her thoughtless and uncaring mother. "Rage Inside the Window" takes the listener into the mind of a savagely depraved soul. Don't expect ambient of the spaced out, blissful, and softly textured variety. This is dirty and impenetrably dark, with an intertwining mass of demonic squalls, intense probing, highly ominous tonal drones, distant monolithic pulsations, and bleak isolationism. 6 lengthy tracks of pure psychological horror, progressively getting darker, brooding, and more menacing. Finally, with the final track, some semblance of solace is achieved. Akin to Atrium Carceri or Raison d'Etre. 6 panel DVD Digipak.

Sektor 304 SEKTOR 304 - 'Soul Cleansing' CD (Malignant Records)

Equipped with a frightening and impressive array of primitive instrumentation pulled from junkyards and scrap metal heaps, this Portuguese outfit has delivered an astounding debut - a heady mixture of truly old school industrial in the vein of Einstürzende Neubauten, Test Dept. and S.P.K., and the grinding, bass heavy dirge of vintage Swans and Godflesh. These are anthems to the past, but geared towards an apocalyptic and bleak future… a form of counter-culture using what is most evident in modern western society: the debris, the abandoned objects, the waste, the noise, and the interference. With a solid foundation of rusty, oil drenched percussion, Sektor 304 adds layer upon layer of squalling industrial clangor, hammering metallic noise, grimy atmospheres, heaving masses of haunted factory drones, and threatening tribal batter, with a strong and commanding vocal presence. Anyone into TRUE industrial really should not miss out. 6 panel digipak.

Striborg STRIBORG - 'Embittered Darkness / Isle De Morts' CD (Displeased Records)

Bleak, misanthropic, depressive black metal with blurry guitars, clean ephemeral bass and plodding, relentlessly pounding rhythms that create a very dark and ghostly atmosphere. Lyrics about the forest, fog and nocturnal desires. Contains a brand new recording along with the very rare 'Isle Des Mortes' demo from 1997. Striborg is one of Sunn O)))'s favourite Black Metal artists and was a big inspiration / influence on the recent 'Black One' album, and one of the tracks on that album was named after Striborg mainman Sin-Nanna. The US edition of this album came out on Southern Lord in the same year.

Wolfskin WOLFSKIN feat. LAST INDUSTRIAL ESTATE - 'Stonegates Of Silence' CD (Malignant Records)

And so the journey formally ends for Wolfskin, 15 years from whence it began with the release of "The Hidden Fortress" cassette back in 1995. The essence of Wolfskin has transformed and mutated throughout the years, reaching on "The Stonegates of Silence" it's simpler form… one of desolation, solitude, insanity and death, the final frontiers of human existence. As he did with "The Hidden Fortress: A Revisitation" CD, Wolfskin once again pairs up with Anders Peterson of Objekt4 fame, now operating under the name of Last Industrial Estate for the purposes of this recording. This is Wolfskin at its bleakest and most restrained, offering 5 tracks of enveloping ambience built around foggy, ambiguous textures and an endless flow of drifting isolationism, shapeless horrors, and oppressive subterranean heaviness. In the case of Stonegates, Wolfskin goes out not with a bang, but with a slow, evolutionary creep into the shadows, forever etched in the lexicon of dark ambient music. Digipak.
