Harvestman is the brainchild of Neurosis vocalist / guitarist Steve Von Till, who considers "In A Dark Tongue" a venture into an imagined past. André Foisy and Terence Hannum have spent the last several years honing the Locrian sound. They've taken elements from noise, power electronics, drone, and black metal to come up with a truly unique sound reflecting the sprawling urban decay surrounding them in Chicago. For this release, Locrian has pulled out all the stops and fleshed out the band with the help of Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded), Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) and Andrew Scherer (Velnias). The results of this massive collaborative effort are apparent from the moment the album starts. The textures run darker and deeper; the vocals - sometimes three layers deep - seem to be conjured from the decrepit muck of a failed civilisation; the feedback takes on a more pronounced presence; and the big band allows for full-on black metal assaults that burst out of the tortured drones Locrian have come to be known for. Ure Thrall (Asianova, ex-Voice Of Eye) is an American artist from Houston, Texas, who is long active in the more atmospheric, transcendental experimental US-scene. Previously known as Pussygutt, the duo of blackened psych-drone metallers from Boise, Idaho changed their name to the much more ominous sounding Wolvserpent in 2010. Yrsel create complex, multi-layered and highly atmospheric music that fully explodes the genres of drone, doom, and electronica resulting in a glorious glacial melt of sound and texture. Yrsel is a collaboration between The Austrasian Goat, primarily an experimental Doom / Black Metal project, and Ondo, an equally prolific dark electronica project. Conceptually, the album deals with the Three Graces (Kharites) of Greek mythology, symbols of grace, beauty, pleasure, and the creative impulse. A requiem for the loss of culture in an ever spiraling material world, a twilight ode to the mythic manifestation of our higher faculties. In this context the drones, glitches and whispers form the perfect soundtrack to such dark materials.
