Asmus Tietchens / Richard Chartier ASMUS TIETCHENS & RICHARD CHARTIER - 'Fabrication 2' 2 x CD (Auf Abwegen)

"Fabrication 2" is the sequel to “Fabrication”, the first collaboration between Richard Chartier and Asmus Tietchens released in 2007 (Die Stadt). Whereas for the first collaboration the idea developed from the project around reinterpretations of Chartier’s “Postfabricated”, this time the efforts were directly focused on the reinterpretation of specific basic sound material. This material can be found on the first disc of “Prefabrication 2″, which was constructed by Richard Chartier alone in Montreal and Washington, DC. “Fabrication 2″ is the reworking of this sonic basis by Asmus Tietchens. Whereas the first CD has traces of subtle dematerialised rhythmic structures, the second disc is a study in minimalism and concentrated sound manipulation. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digifile, with original artwork by Richard Chartier.

Asmus Tietchens ASMUS TIETCHENS - 'Eine Menge Papier' MCD (Auf Abwegen)

Timely reissue of the Syntactic 7" "Papier Ist Geduldig" (1996), plus three unreleased tracks. The sound represents the pre-Mengen era Tietchens sound - rawer and rougher than the recent sine wave and white noise permutations. Five sonic movements... 20 minutes of sounds derived from paper as a sound source. The CD is housed in a digisleeve designed by Tietchens, which holds another sleeve with reproductions of the original vinyl artwork. The CD itself is a half-metallised MCD, which plays in normal CD players. Limited to 500 copies.

Asmus Tietchens ASMUS TIETCHENS - 'Notturno' CD (Die Stadt)

Part 10 of the ongoing re-release series of all early Tietchens albums from 1980-1991 on CD. "Notturno" was originally released on LP by Discos Esplendor Geometrico in 1986 (ltd x 518) and then on CD by Baronni in 1993. Following 'Formen Letzter Hausmusik' and 'Hydrophonie', 'Notturno' was another 'serious' attempt at composing more electro-acoustic music, and Tietchens limits himself to using the (grand) piano, looping the sounds and filtering through sound effects and synths. To use loops as to the extent that Tietchens does is something that sets him aside from the regular musique concrete composers. Remastered.

Blindhæd / VinylLP BLINDHAED - 'Whether That Will Make People Want To Become Archaeologists, We'll Have To See' SINGLE SIDED 12" (Ini.Itu)

The first release on this Belgian label is a single-sided , 20-minute 12" from Blindhæd. Abstract, musique concrete and experimental sounds, citing their influences as Lull, Asmus Tietchens, Phill Niblock etc. "The slight metallic rumble, the same subaquatic sound processing, the debris of contact microphone rumble. It seems to be dealing less with field recordings, and more with the electronic layering of various concrete actions and sounds, which shift along each other in quite an intelligent way. One can sense that there is quite some time and effort in this piece, since it flows subtle and moves into various different textures" (Vital Weekly).   Frieband FREIBAND - 'Replicas' CD (Monochrome Vision)

Highly conceptual project that combines features of remix, recycling and plagiarism - the re-interpretation of classic album by Asmus Tietchens “Daseinsverfehlung”. All that can be heard on this CD, as always in case of Frans de Waard framework, is made from music that already existed: every sound, word in titles and even the cover picture - all is just processing and manipulation techniques.   John Duncan JOHN DUNCAN - 'Da Sich Die Machtgier...' CD (Die Stadt)

Asmus Tietchens sent processed recordings of himself reading excerpts from two texts by E. M. Cioran. Duncan worked on and manipulated them, creating three pieces. There is little of Tietchens remaining in these abstract creations. Speed-altered voice tracks are stacked, swirling electronic sounds in the background providing proof of deeper processing. "Freih zein hoem macht..." ranks among Duncan's harshest pieces to date, while "Aber..." is more "typical" Duncan: a drone derived from the sound source but from which the sound source has been obliterated, and yet makes its ghostly presence palpable. Presented in a nice digipak with tasteful spot varnish and insert. Ltd x 1000.

Kontakt Der Jünglinge / Thomas Koner KONTAKT DER JUNGLINGE - '0' CD (Die Stadt)

This is the second part of the ongoing series of live performances (numbered backwards) by Kontakt Der Jünglinge - the collaborative project of renowned sound sculptor's Thomas Köner and Asmus Tietchens. '0' was recorded inside the M.S. Stubnitz, a ship situated in the harbour of Rostock, Germany. Much more 'basic' in the use of sounds than their first CD '1', the 43 minute long track creates a more dense and dark atmosphere with occasional rhythmic additions, seeming to reflect the space it was recorded in.   Epitaph For John VA - 'Epitaph For John' CD (Korm Plastics)

Compilation with Asmus Tietchens, RLW (Ralf Wehowsky), Merzbow, Freiband (Frans De Waard) and John Watermann. "On April 2nd 2002 John Watermann died suddenly of an infection resulting from his ongoing treatment for cancer. Having in the final year of his life returned to artistic pursuits, he still had vast plans for future projects. Among these unfulfilled projects were plans to collaborate with Frans de Waard on a new release. Although only preliminary discussions on the collaboration took place and Watermann never completed any work towards the project, Watermann's source material that was to be the basis of the work now serves as a basis for this tribute release. This release serves as a record of Watermann and his influence, documenting the respect he reserved from his peers and, hopefully, introducing his work to a new audience."
