Moune is a very old word for Moon in an old language that was spoken in Germany. But it’s not German, it’s Friesisch. Helge Siehl is the driving force of 1000schoen since the time he parted ways with the other two former Maeror Tri members. This album shows the more Dark Ambient side of 1000schoen, leaving the rhythmic path behind in favour of menacing sounds of highly personal moon rising visions. The symbol of 1000schoen reflects the celestial bodies of Sun and Moon in inseparable symbiosis, which we can see in all that we can imagine. The world of 1000schoen art and experience moves in this continuum as well. Ltd x 500 copies in a digisleeve.

AIN SOPH - 'Oktober' CD & 3" DVD (Old Europa Cafe)
Reissue of Ain Soph's 2002 album with new artwork. The come back of the Roman masters after 10 years! All vocals are in Italian with their usual acoustic instrumentation and their typical keyboard sounds. The songs are similar to their previous album "Aurora", but with an additional rocking electric guitar. Once more a work above all standards. The more unusual industrial project which still works from inside the industrial world. Tales of a Russian soldier during the October revolution. Probably even more surprising than "Aurora". The disc that you have been waiting for. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak with a bonus 3" DVD.
ALBIREON - 'Mr. Nightbird Hates Blueberries' CD (Old Europa Cafe)
A dark comedy or a folk drama about drunk birds, mocking spiders, empty bottles and lost souls. For this decadent party, recorded between late 2008 to early 2010 and graced by great emotional neofolk ballads and more experimental gloomy soundscapes, Albireon invited some very selected guests to share this tasty blueberry cake and offer the album a different palette of vocal nuances and a multi-national coven of damned artists' parade: David E. Williams, Lloyd James (Naevus), Sonne Hagal, Future Whirl (formerly Oberon) and Die Weisse Rose are the selected guests of Mr. Nightbird's party. These great artists offered a priceless contribution to Albireon's music and lyrics, and perfectly painted the sad main character, in his struggling pilgrimage toward love, loss, forgiveness and rebirth, but all seen through the drunk eye of the mocking spiders.
ALIO DIE & MARILOINA ZITTA - 'La Sala Dei Cristalli' CD (Hic Sunt Leones)
Selected sound materials from sonorous stones, stalactites, bat calls, flutes, field recordings collected by Mariolina Zitta in different caves in Liguria a Sardinia, Italy, processed and edited by Alio Die. Drones are played by the authors on a set of long stones that resonate, caressed by a bathed hand, and by the same principle of crystal glasses. A very immersive and obscure journey, an underground meditation with a ritual touch, in accordance with the "natural sound", despite the sampling and multi-effect techniques used here. The mystery of the ancient and puzzling magic Sator square is evoked through five dark tracks. Amon (Andrea Marutti) is and established Dark Ambient project and Nimh (Giuseppe Verticchio) is a well-known and eclectic alchemist of electronic-ethnic-acoustic-ambient sound mixtures. Together they have produced massive magmatic sounds mixed with the technologic and synthetic vibrations of oscillating sinewaves and with frosty isolationist timbres programmed through fluxes of information written in binary code... ANDREAS BRANDAL – ‘Drive Home With A Hammer’ CD (Quasi Pop)
This is the first full-length CD release by Norwegian noise artist Andreas Brandal. “Drive Home With A Hammer” is not ‘just another noise record’. Once you hear it, you will be surprised by the unique sense of Andreas’ manipulation with interesting close-to-recognisable sounds. His skills in working with macro/micro audio-events helps him to create a powerful and impressive audio work using both vintage analogue equipment and modern computer tools. The smallest audio element that can indicate the way to the hidden layers and perspectives in sound. This album sounds very deep, organic and analogue, because hisses, brutal tape loops and glitches are the constant ingredients of Andreas’ output. The structure of the tracks is clear and irregular at the same time, the music flows freely, but not quiet, because it is created with both composition and improvisation methods. ARDITI / SIGNA INFERRE - 'Statues Of Gods / Invictis Victi Victuri' Black 10" (Equilibrium Music)
3 exclusive tracks from each band! For "Statues of Gods", Arditi tap into ancient Nordic traditions and incorporate them in their militaristic anthems. The characteristically oppressive soundscapes, pounding percussion and powerful orchestrations are represented in new shades, as elements of Nordic folk music shape Arditi's pieces into slow-motion medieval dances and ceremonial tributes to times past. "Invictis Victi Victuri" is the first release by Signa Inferre. Although the project has only recently surfaced, the maturity displayed in their pieces should quickly earn them a favorable position in the Neo-Classical / Martial Industrial scene. Leaving behind the typical insipid blending of samples lifted from Classical music recordings and looped ad nauseam, Signa Inferre's work develops in fluid and continuous progression, giving birth to fully accomplished epic scores brimming with martial beauty. Ltd x 300 copies on black vinyl with silver on black printed card artwork. ACT FAST!
The debut MCD by Armon Kuilu is a funereal musical journey, two long progressive / folk compositions built out mostly of classical piano, strings, orchestral drums, singing, prayers and invocations in male and female voices. The soundscapes bring to mind images of forlorn cemetaries, initiatory cults, bloodletting, woodlands and altered states of consciousness. At times the melodies of chamber music break out into squeals, groans and crackling which haunt the space and resonate with the Finnish poetry, that most of the time reminds one of a satanic ceremony. This is not a generic so-called occult album with the usual Crowley spoken parts. Instead this is a deeply personal work with challenging classical and sometimes jazz or progressive melodies composed by the master behind the project and performed by real musicians with authentic instruments and also utilizing real actors for the various voices and spoken parts. ARNICA - 'Numancia' MCD (Ahnstern)
Numancia was a small castro (Spanish for Celtiberian village). The inhabitants of Numancia fought against the Roman Empire for more than 20 years. In 133B.C. Rome sent their best general Escipion to create a siege and destroy Numancia so they could control the entire peninsula. However, when the Romans entered the village, the survivors decided to kill their own children, set their own belongings on fire and end their own lives. If the Empire controlled Celtiberia they could not control their people. Musically Numancia is a invigorating trip from the magnificence of the village to the final decision of choose to die instead of being conquered. Solid drums and ritual elements are mixed with Heathen tunes for the recognizable Ur-Folk sound. All texts are written and sung in Spanish and in the ancient Celtiberian language. Outsize sleeve.

BIRCH BOOK - 'Fortune & Folly' LP (Ahnstern / Steinklang)
This classic Folk milestone was recorded on San Juan Island of the Pacific Northwest. "Fortune & Folly" is the fitting second volume of Birch Book (aka In Gowan Ring). Assuming the allegorical emblems of The Wheel of Fortune and The Traveling Fool, Fortune & Folly distill the introspections of a perennial rambler reckoning the Bitter and the Bliss of The Road Less Traveled. Drifting away from the overtly psychedelic, medieval, and soporific atmosphere which typified In Gowan Ring, Bee (Jon Michael Beirth) displays a more organic, individualistic approach to songwriting. BRIGHTER DEATH NOW - 'Breaking Down Nihil' 2 x CD (Der Angriff)
Recorded live during a short Russian tour in September 2009, these recordings are unique since the lineup was made of Russian artists and only Roger himself was a part of the common European live incarnation of BDN. The persons behind Anthesteria and LamiaVox joined him in Moscow, while the guys from Bardoseneticube and 414 were together with him on stage in St.Petersburg. The basic parts of the tracks were sent to them all in advance, so they prepared their own vision of this material, thus it was a pure conceived and well-organized collaboration. Both shows were recorded on multi-channel devices, then carefully mixed and mastered, so the final quality is close to the studio sound without losing any of the raw energy of live performance. The result is a very fresh and unexpected look on the well-known BDN compositions such as 'Innerwar', 'Pay Day' and 'Testing' which should be interesting not only for devoted followers of the project but for the wider audience of power electronics / death industrial fans. These electronic based experimentations employ automatic composition, drone and musique concréte to create subterranean explorations on the nature of signals and time. "This one sort of takes off on a post-Time Machines / Eternal Music vibe but with an exacting minimalist logic that would locate distant Morse Code tones and blurry EVP sightings on the very fringes of liminality. There are vague, nagging melodies that could almost come out of the Goblin / Suspiria song book alongside long passages of single tone narcosis that feel like transports to the other side. DANIEL MENCHE - 'Scattered Remains: Early Rarities' 2 x CD (Soleilmoon)

Besides his numerous albums and singles, released by an eclectic range of labels, he has contributed countless tracks to compilations, many of which reached only the smallest of audiences. “Scattered Remains” tracks his progress from 1995 through 1999, collecting the best of these pieces, now fully remastered, onto two full-length CDs. Besides the material culled from CD compilations, three tracks previously only available on vinyl appear in digital form for the first time ever.
The great French Dark Ambient / Ritual Black Ambient Artist is back with his most elaborate release yet. Features four tracks of Dark Ritual Sophisticated Evil Music! DAVID JACKMAN & PHILIP SANDERSON - 'Terrain' 10" (Die Stadt)
Two tracks from early cassette releases. Side A is an alternative version of "Terrain" by Jackman and Sanderson, originally released on the "0 Degrees North" cassette (Aeroplane 1982). With Jackman overdubbing low guttural growls on a steel strung cello and Sanderson programming coffee-percolation on a drum machine, "Terrain" is a lo-fi production that finds its companions in the work of Throbbing Gristle, Hunting Lodge, and the Broken Flag camp of noise. Side B is a solo piece by Jackman, originally released on the 'Adrift' cassette (Snatch Tapes 1981). It is similarly lo-fi with a hypnotic loop of a monochromatic guitar topped with clanging metals and samples from orchestral swells, which have been drained of all colour and replaced with a swampy din. DAVID JACKMAN - 'Edge Of Nothing' 10" (Die Stadt)
"Edge Of Nothing" was first released in a cassette edition of 5 (!) copies on Jackman’s Aeroplane imprint, and then included on the legendary “The Elephant Table Album” DLP in 1983 (feat. Coil, Nurse With Wound, SPK, Lustmord etc). Both tracks presented here are the January 2003 mixes of the original material, which was derived from variously stimulating a cymbal with bows, knuckles, loops etc. An extremely dense piece of experimental noise where (allegedly) the B side is the A side reversed. DAVID JACKMAN - 'Flak' 10" (Die Stadt)
An excellent 10" release offering two diverse pieces. Side A is a heavy, densely layered drone piece comprised of harsh, grating sounds all over the sound field, but sliding from start to finish with remarkable constancy. It's a truly beautiful noise, rather like some of Jackman's earlier work as Organum. Side B is a field recording, untreated, unfiltered, recorded outdoors, with a great hiss that is very much present in the mix. This second track seems to comment on the drone piece in a way, acting as an alternative exploration of its theme. Regular edition of 400 copies.

DAVID JACKMAN - 'Verhalte Dich Ruhig' MCD (Die Stadt)
Those readers familiar with the world of experimental music will know the name David Jackman, primarily from his work under the name Organum. As Organum, Jackman has created some of the finest, most haunting drone recordings of the last decade. This CD is a reissue of a 1996 cassette-only release that appeared in an edition of only 61 copies. Perhaps slightly similar to the sampling work of John Wall, here Jackman has taken found recordings of orchestras, and overlaid them to create two eerie collections of string ensemble collage. The title seems to translate to "hold you back calmly" and that sentiment certainly matches the music. Two untitled tracks spanning just over 25 minutes. Ltd x 700 copies.

DEATH IN JUNE - 'Live In New York' DVD (Tesco USA)
This beautiful and unique documentary piece, recorded at the Walker Stage in New York City on November 10, 2002, is a career-spanning collection of 29 tracks, each receiving a definitive live performance in DIJ's more recent stripped-down acoustic arrangements. Death in June has been the vehicle for Douglas P. to create a unique fusion of electronics, martial drumming (from John Murphy), and esoteric lyrics and visual symbolism. His work has spawned a new musical genre of its own, which some have called "Neofolk." While this disc will help the uninitiated to catch-up with one of the most important musical voices performing today, fans will appreciate that this DVD memorialises a concert that was nearly 21 years to the day that the band made its live debut, opening for The Birthday Party in London. The intimate setting allows Douglas P. to interact directly with the audience, taking spontaneous requests from fans and providing charming background stories for each song. Comes in a DVD digipak.

Delicate Noise return with their second CD - an honest, optimistic and weighted electronica record. The album unfolds like the telling of a dream - warm and sentimental songs wash in and out with lullaby-like melodies, augmented with disembodied voices of children playing. Evident Boards of Canada influences are apparent, with a haunting and emotional sound evoking images of old home movies... a feeling of dusk and darkness falling. Emotive and beautiful, "Filmezza" provides a soundtrack befitting an old photo of a loved one or a cherished memory with a warmth and satisfaction returning the ears to a sense of wonder. DESIDERII MARGINIS - 'Years Lend A Golden Charm' CD (Eternal Pride Productions)
With "Years Lend A Golden Charm" we are invited to experience the very birth of what is now a well established project within the Dark Ambient Industrial scene. 73 minutes of material from the first three DM cassette releases from 1993 ("Consecrare", "Via Peregrinus", "Hortus Conclusus / Triptych"), plus one previously unreleased track. Highly sought after by collectors but only available in a mere dozen handmade copies, these songs are now finally made available to a greater audience. DIETER MUH / MNEM - 'Atomyriades' CD (Cipher Productions)
The UK's Dieter Muh (Dave Uden alone this time) manipulates Finland's MNEM. "Solid collaborative effort between these known, but still some what obscure groups, delivering 8 tracks of dark, abstract atmospheres, with an array of layered, slightly organic sounds and processed manipulations; unknown insectile noises (of a larger variety I might add), sub-aquatic, droney washes, and deep rhythmic pulsations, with a dash of industrial clutter thrown in. Quite active and constantly in motion, allowing this to work very well as background music, or with headphones to pick up the multiple nuances and ultra-hypnotic qualities. DIM ARCANA - 'Ars Populi' CD (Black Drone)
Dim Arcana was born in the a.d. MMVIII, from the intent to recall ancient atmospheres of death and pestilence, dreadful environments where the man of the medieval times lived. Influenced by the greatest names of the ambient scene (Uruk-Hai, Raison D'etre, Equimanthorn), the duo presents medieval dark ambient with great noise and drone influences, alternating orchestral passages of ethereal rhyming. Lavish breaths of past times serve as frames, where bells of churches and ancestral instruments bring you back in medieval Europe. This debut album comes in beautifully designed 6-panel digipak and includes a 12-page booklet. Australian import.
DIVISION S - 'Something To Drink To V' CD (Old Europa Cafe)
Division S' second CD and the fifth chapter in the “Something to Drink” saga. A new treasure of minimal Noir-Cabaret with Mediterranean sounds, with Rock’n’Western saloon melodies, with vintage style hits dealing with 60’s like sounds. Songs to be listened while drinking a good Italian red wine and smoking an unfiltered cigarette. Songs for nostalgic rainy days and for summer sunsets. Songs for lovers and those suffering broken hearts. Songs for drunken and dandy urban cow-boys and cow-girls. “Something to Drink V” continues where the last album ended, from the last drink, from the last glass of whine… “Alla Salute!” A5 sleeve.
The joint project by famous Baltic ritual folk act Kulgrinda and a noble neofolk artist Donis. "Archaic Winter Solstice chants with profound and subtle musical arrangements. The sacred experience of the time, when the whole world gets restarted by the greatest and most enigmatic primal God. One of His manifestations is named Sotvaras. DREAMCATCHER - 'Prom Night / Eyes Of Leatherface' LP (.ANGLE.REC.)
Dreamcatcher's hot-wired, saturated and hypnotic sound layers, as well as strings and splatters of sonic mess and Power Electronics / old-school / new school aesthetics, have earned them a devoted following in Montreal and beyond. Includes material from their first recorded sessions, and ranks among the favourites of the duo. Without a doubt one of the sickest, most twisted and noisiest releases from ANGLE.REC. so far! EINLEITUNGSZEIT - 'Die Infektion Der Geburt' CD (Hirnlärm Laboratorium)

FAHL - 'The Paths To Emptiness' CD (The Eastern Front)
Debut opus from Fahl, founded by Dimo Dimov, Marcel P. and Cornelius Waldner in 2008. All the musicians are active participants in numerous groups from the dark folk, neoclassical and black metal genres. They felt a growing urge to experiment with dark ambient soundscapes, resulting in this mutual collaboration. The Paths To Emptiness is a haunting journey to the subconscious, divided into ten audial gateways to the occult and hidden forces of the inner self. Lyrically based on the Mahabharata, as well as poems and texts by John Milton, Jack London, Stefan George, Christian Dietrich Grabbe and Cornelius Waldner, this release is strongly recommended for fans of Brighter Death Now and Lustmord. Featuring members of Svarrogh, Sagittarius, Miel Noir and Allerseelen. Ltd x 1000 copies.
Amazing and unique debut CD of the Swiss Ur-Folk project Fräkmündt, born out of the idea to revive old sagas and nearly forgotten songs and atmospheres of the alpine regions of Switzerland. Performed in alemannic central-Swiss dialect, the songs on "Urbärglieder" simulate a journey through landscapes of the quaint regions of Switzerland. They let you chase through stormwinds with the wild hunt at mount Pilatus or stroll under the paintings of the danse macabre over the Spreuerbridge in Lucerne. One can meet the devil in the Schöllenen gorge and follow the alpine herdsmen during their sad walk down to the valleys in autumn. The album is alternated by two sound-accentuated sagas and two atmospheric pieces, letting one share the horrors of the ghost-house in Stans and the mythical ambiance inside the Mondmilchloch cave. On "Urbärglieder" acoustic guitars, accordion, violin, flutes and various percussion instruments generate melancholic melodies full of nostalgia, but also rousing hymns which invite to dance. With "Urbärglieder" a piece of extraordinary Ur-Folk music was born, telling in its very own way the stories that are almost forgotten. Features cz (Vinterriket, Atomtrakt, Nebelkorona etc). Deluxe digipak with 16 page booklet.
"Uufwärts e d’Föuse" (Upward to the rocks) is a conceptual album which takes the listener on an imposing musical journey to untouched Alpine areas. As on "Urbärglieder" all tracks are presented in the typical Fräkmündt Central-Swiss alemannic dialect. After an "Alp-Blessing" ("Aupsääge"), the journey upwards is visualised using acoustic guitars, accordion, drums, hurdy-gurdy melodies and flute. The nighttime track “Höttehock” is a swinging and wild traditional dancing track with a catchy accordion melody and nice acoustic guitars. The last track "Stouz ond frey" (proud and free) is a devotional and powerful song with profound hurdy-gurdy, rhythmic guitar melodies and catchy accordion tunes. The MCD ends with a Dark Alpine Ambient track called "Bärgtröim" (Mountain Dreams) which smoothly leads the listener back to the valley. A varied 27-minute piece of extraordinary Ur-Folk music, which perfectly describes the mystic and legendary Alpine areas. Outsize sleeve.
An immersion into sonic matter from micro and macro environments dominated by the wind in Patagonia. A vast barren space shaped and inhabited by the ever-changing forces of plants, rocks, sand, snow and ice. An irregular environment of relentless strength and richness. And above all, a tour de force of profound listening. López’s Patagonian winds have a ferocious beauty and immensity. Delicate whispers combine with wild swarms and eddies underpinned by deep bass punches. All of this is produced by an invisible force that endlessly sweeps the surface of the globe. IN SCHERBEN - 'Dort An Jenem Baume...' CD (Lichterklang)
In Scherben's third album is not just the result of their acquired musical maturity, but an affectionate commitment to the concept of "Heimat", which can be experienced in their lyrics and in their musical interpretations of poems by Eichendorff, Nikolaus Lenau and Gottfried Benn. A romantically idealised understanding of 'homeland' and its cultural and social origins is transformed into a groundbreaking declaration of love, dedicated to one's own roots. In Scherben's musical versatility and sparkling instrumentation is far from being restricted to clichés of the genre, but open up new horizons of classically inspired Neofolk, in the tradition of Forseti or Dies Natalis. INORGANIC BLOSSOMING - 'Seasons Project: Autumndrones' CD (Infinite Fog Productions / Vegvisir Music / 7Hz Records)
'Autumndrones' is a name which belongs to two musicians from Siberia - Becoming and Freeall. 'Autumndrones' - can be explained as a love of autumn. They did not want to dedicate the music to this season, they wanted to write it. Therefore they music was written during the fall only, and when the first autumn passed they left the unfinished material until the next one. That is why the work took them 3 years. The whole mood of the album went through this season, even live instruments, such as violin and accordion, were recorded in fields along with the leaves' noise. The sound of nature and the human together. Mild ambient, careful noise and accidental melodies, the mix of leaves rustling, wind blowing and analogue synths singing. Ltd x 292 copies in a handmade A5 digipak.
ISOMER - 'Face Toward The Sun' CD (Tesco Organisation)
Isomer's latest offering takes a sharp turn towards more aggressive territories, with the raw industrial hinted at in previous outings getting a proper airing. The dark ambient textures for which he is known still feature, but "Face Toward The Sun" forges new stylistic ground for the project. From the throbbing electronics of the opening track, through power electronics, walls of noise, violent vocal deliveries and carefully structured dark ambience, this is a characteristically varied album. The tracks here will appeal to listeners of martial industrial as well as to an industrial dark ambient audience. A lusty, varied album of industrial music. Presented in a 6-panel digipak with potent imagery.

JARL - 'Vertigo Rebirth' CD (Autarkeia)
Vertigo Rebirth is the 14th album from Swedish composer Erik Jarl (IRM) and the third and final part of the Vertigo trilogy. Like the earlier albums, this one generates particularly severe emotions: isolation, intoxication and especially negative, poisonous intuition. The album opens with a track that has a construction uncharacteristic to his previous works. This composition contains quite strange rhythms and is rather dynamic, which generates deceptive elation. But that’s only the first track of the album. The rest fling the audience back to the cold uncompromising space of drone, piercing and crushing all attempts to perceive the phenomenon of Jarl’s impasse. This is one more remarkable album for potential suicides. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak.

KARL BOSMANN feat. JAN VAN DEN DOBBELSTEEN / ULTRA MILKMAIDS / HIROSHI HASEGAWA - 'Levoton - RED / BLACK MARBLED' LP (Psych.KG)
"The original on one side and the remixes on the other side. Karl Bösmann plays zither, bows, voice, hammer, ventillation, timpani, trumpet and trombone in the twenty minute title piece. I usually quite like his work and this new piece is no different. It seems to creating a hiatus with his older work in that it all seems to be derived from acoustic sound sources, rather than electronics. Its slowly building up, layer by layer and from a certain point on a moire like effect takes place, of shifting sounds, moving in and out of the mix. A fine complexity of dense sounds arrives and has a weird, almost avant-folk like character. The first remix is by Jan van den Dobbelsteen, The Netherlands' more conceptual composer. I have no idea what he did to the material, but 'radical rework' surely applies here. A static beep, like an alarm clock, repeated over and over. Ultra Milkmaids also do a form of reduction but in a more musical way, bringing everything down to just a few meandering organ like sounds. Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro), on the other hand does what he does best, which is putting down a fine psychedelic mix of noise like sounds. Three entirely different remixes, none of which resembles the original at all. Now that's what I call a great remix project" (Vital Weekly). All vocals are sung in lead singer Dea's Styrian (Austrian) dialect, and to augment the band's line-up of guitars, accordion and percussion are guest musicians such as Thomas Bøjden (Die Weisse Rose) and Benjamin Sperling (Jännerwein). Welcome to Overlook Hotel, where every room has a ghost, and every room has a story to tell. Travel the hallways and explore, as you venture into a cerebral musical state, where ghostly transmissions and hypnotic layers of surreal, ethereal atmospheres intersect with disembodied voices, clattering, furnace blasting percussion, and of course, healthy injections of true, old fashioned Death Industrial noise and sweeping doom, done in the best Scandinavian style. The pacing of the album is truly impeccable, flowing seamlessly from to track, as if moving from room to room in a hazy, dream state, the layering and cohesiveness on a whole nothing short of meticulous. 6-panel digifile.

LE REVERS SANGLANT - 'Un Combat Perdu D'Avance' CD (Twilight Records)
The winter of 2004 marked the birth of the Le Revers Sanglant. The initial goal of the project was to create a minimalist audio concept with cold and martial atmospheres. During the Fall of 2010 the music and concept had begun to take on a more aggressive sound. The realisation of this new focus is attributed to 'Un Combat Perdu d'Avance', representing feelings of uprising and melancholy. Taking the subject of war as backdrop, we can find an ubiquitous death for those young soldiers. Fate wins. Taken into battle, whatever happens, they won't have to miss courage to face up their destiny. LISA GERRARD & PIETER BOURKE - 'Duality' CD (4AD)
Duality is at once sacred and playful. It is both dark and light, organic and refined, masculine and feminine. Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard partners with Pieter Bourke, formerly of Aussie band Eden, to create this compositional dance of partnership that is classical, ancient, and thoroughly modern. Gerrard's voice is multi-tracked at times, conjuring a cathedral choir and the droning chants of monks. Drums and synth snake from desert to brilliant stormy sky to shaking earth and the bodies that inhabit those spaces. There are lush multiple layers of strings, bagpipe drone, and, quite literally, the laughter of children. The vocals sans "real" words and multicultural instrumentation will be familiar to Dead Can Dance listeners. Yet there is something more exclusive, more womb-like about the music of Bourke and Gerrard; rather than two distinct bodies making music, like mother and in utero child sharing blood and breath, they are mutually dependent.

LULL - 'Like A Slow River' CD (Glacial Movements)
After a long period of silence, we welcome the return of one of the most important representatives of the ambient isolationist world: the wonderful UK artist Lull (aka Mick Harris of Scorn, Painkiller, Napalm Death). "Like a slow river" is a work characterised by sharp and minimal atmospheres but also dark, cold and huge such as large bodies of ice which slowly move, carried by an endless river. These five compositions reach the high expectations of Lull's previous works, such as "Cold Summer", "Continue" and the "Murder Ballads" trilogy with Martin Bates. With no doubt, this is the coldest and darkest work ever composed by this pioneer of industrial-ambient music. You will all be led to the oblivion of your existence....the freezing darkness of these glacial night is going to come down on your bodies and minds... you'll fall in your deepest sleep with the far echo of glacial runnings... the way to eternity is in front of you. Presented in a gorgeous 6-panel digipak. Highly recommended!!
The tracks on "Daas" have been carefully picked to form a provoking, haunting journey. What the tracks have in common is a sense of nostalgic graininess. As with the music of Philip Jeck, The Caretaker or William Basinski, these tracks are full of degrading melodies and dusty ambience. 'Daas' is the previously unreleased opening track of the album, and features contributions by the great Richard Skelton. 'Flotter', 'Koploop' and 'Grom' were previously available on small run self released EPs, while 'Onkruid' was a track previously released on 'A Room Forever', as an expensive and extremely limited 12" boxset. All are now brought to a wider audience. Presented in a matt laminate digipak.

MAURIZIO BIANCHI - 'Pharmelodies - SIGNED' CD (Silentes)

MYSTIFIED - 'Passing Through The Outer Gates' CD (First Fallen Star)
Through the end of all things is a new beginning found! The Eulogy Series challenges musicians to create the soundtrack to nothing less than their own death, transition and afterlife, as they see it in their own mind and in accordance with their personal beliefs. Thomas Park (Mystified) has created an album that's worlds apart from his previous releases in both maturity and complexity, and in doing so has opened a new chapter in his own history as a musician. As his body dies and his soul embarks on a timeless journey through an increasingly strange series of gates toward a place of final rest, we find that Thomas` aural vision is crafted with not only spiritual transcendence of this physical world, but also with transcendence of the narrow genres typically used to classify musicians. Ambient and dark ambient soundscapes alike are deftly populated by neo-classical elements, occasionally with an experimental twist! NIKO SKORPIO - 'Psilocybe Necrophila' CD (Some Place Else)
"Psilocybe Necrophila" refers to a psychoactive mushroom that grows on decomposing flesh. Although recorded mostly in 2007, parallel to last year's acclaimed "Half Born in Half Light", it is quite a different trip. The basis of this work was Niko Skorpio's old cassette tape collection from the 1980's. Containing mostly heavy metal demos and live bootlegs, the dozens of KMs of obsolete tape were sacrificed on the altar of creation. Tape was deconstructed, cut, mangled, eaten and torn apart by a number of malfunctioning cassette players. These emerging mutations were captured, processed and reconstructed, over and over until a new form began to take shape. Carefully chosen and prepared additional ingredients were then introduced to this primal tissue in order to impregnate it with a new kind of energy. NOTHING - 'Silence Came In, Filling Jagged Spaces' CD (Eibon Records)
Fourth full-length album from Jason Walton (Circadian). A disharmonic journey through the mid-world spheres. Fragments of corrupted melodies melt with post-nuclear tribal rhythms. The music of the Finnish project October Falls is acoustic and melancholic. Cello, soft piano tones, choir and acoustic guitar weave beautiful melodies about the Nature's beauty. 'Marras' tells a story about withered leaves, autumn rain and mist in the forest. Perfect melodies for the long winter nights. There is a new hope for Neofolk! The longing for pure, original and fresh folklore is now being answered. Dutch act Osewoudt bring straightforward melodies, martial drums, mellow accordion, strong, male vocals, dreamy and bold acoustic guitars. Their mixture of intense songs, passionate and poetic lyrics, raw and sober song structures, alluring melodies and their devotion to the the sublime, is exactly the kind of Neofolk we have all been waiting for. PAINTING PETALS ON PLANET GHOST - 'Fallen Camellias' CD (A Silent Place)
Second full-length album from Italian brothers Maurizio & Roberto Opalio (My Cat Is An Alien) and vocalist Ramona Ponzini (Praxinoscope). 'Fallen Camellias' is a tribute to one of the greatest poetess ever, Japanese Yosano Akiko, whose work in literature in the early 1900's is considered as manifesto of the Japanese Romanticism. Imagine a Vashti Bunyan or a early Marianne Faithful singing sweet melodies in Japanese language, and you can have an idea of the musical and poetical universe of PPOPG. The songs of 'Fallen Camellias' are built on acoustic guitar melodies and are made of the same pure, melancholy of the legendary Nick Drake. Let 'Fallen Camellias' be your warm blanket, as well as the promise of a new future spring. 6-panel digipak.

PARANOIA INDUCTA - 'Pia Fraus' CD (Beast Of Prey)
"Pia Fraus” is second part of the Lux Mundi trilogy. This trilogy is a tribute to all those who died, were killed, deceived, humiliated and oppressed by catholic church. It's a tribute to all those victims who instead of love and hope were given torment and death. Anthony A Destroyer is joined once again by eLL (Sui Generic Umbra) and Robert Marciniak (Rukkanor). This second act in red symbolises the cardinal colour and is dedicated to all victims of cardinals. A dark ambient album with an atmosphere of death and industrial sounds, choirs, songs and voices, much like the style of "Gloria Laus". The handmade package, which is stamped and sealed, contains a 12-page booklet. 50 minutes of music in a limited edition 444 copies. Polish import.
PAS - 'Pure Energy Output Sessions' CD (PAS Records)
NYC experimentalists PAS (Post Abortion Stress) is a group out to create musical collages through the form of abstract sound. Their name refers metaphorically to those who have been aborted by society, because their point of view doesn't fit in the constraints of 'normal' society. The short name refers to the negative in French, metaphorically negating everything that is established to start from a new beginning. The band create soundscapes underpinned by the notion that music can be whatever the ear perceives... a conception fueled by the love of life and art. The compositions themselves are more akin to soundscapes than 'songs' in the traditional sense. There are no clearly defined melodies, no structural landmarks that give you any sense of traditional anchor. Sonic sculptures in the mode of pure art. 6-panel digisleeve.

PHURPA - 'Nag bDud Ceremony' CD (Aquarellist)
This voyage began in the middle of the 1990's in Moscow, when a group of artists and musicians led by Alexei Tegin and based at the legendary Fabrique of Cardinal Art commenced their studies of traditional ritual music, drifting away from the field of contemporary electroacoustic and industrial music with the intent to delve deeper into the ancient musical cultures of the ancient Egypt, Iran and Tibet. The original 2003 lineup of the project that emerged as a result was dubbed Phurpa (one of the five tutelary deities of the Father Tantra in Bon tradition), and all the members have carried on with their research in the field of Tibetan liturgies up to the present day. The idea for this project was in the air since the late 1980s. First detailed sketches of the compositions include heavily treated versions of these recordings, cross-modulations with sounds supplied by DSM and with DSM-variations of the RWL sounds sent to Caen. DSM CD: with very few exceptions he used only the original sound recordings of RLW, using treatments only what would be conceived to be already into the realm of the compositional strategies. RAMONA PONZINI & Z'EV - 'Ankoku' CD (A Silent Place)
Ramona's personal touch is certainly her own particular Japanese chant, together with the use of traditional percussion, bells and cymbals from Japan. Z'EV, enchanted by all those elements, asked Ramona for this cooperation. "Ankoku" is a Japanese word which means "deep darkness". For this debut Ramona's voice and percussion was processed by My Cat Is An Alien in their mysterious studio, placed somewhere in Western Alps, adding some field recordings. Those recordings were then sent to Z'EV who has processed them with some of his typical percussion. Z'EV deconstructed the sweetness of Ramona's chants, enfolding the pieces with a darker atmosphere. 5 obscure tracks, structured on charming vocal melodies moving out from a "haunted house". RAPOON - 'The Fires Of The Borderlands' CD (Release Entertainment)
As Rapoon, Robin Storey creates dark ambience. In fact, it sometimes borders on malevolent minimalism. "The Fires Of The Borderlands" is a set of deeply eerie atmospheres with experimental textures and frightening timbres. The mechanical repetition adds to the mystery. Deep drones alternate with sinister synth washes to heighten the mystique. Storey has left no room for escape; the soundscapes surround and enclose listeners tightly. The fires referenced in the title are the fires of hell, or, at the very least, the fires of fitful existentialism. "Time had no meaning. It was gone. The dust of it lay at my feet, disturbed now and again by strange winds that eddied around the ancient rocks I stood upon. The sky if one could call it that, threw fitful spasms of light and dark. The fires of the borderlands."

RISING SHADOWS - 'Finis Gloriae Mundi' CD (Twilight Records)
"Finis Gloriae Mundi" is the third album from Rising Shadows. Once again the beautiful voice of Linda-li enriches the mysterious and complex musical textures created by Fredrik Klingwall. The Swedish duo now goes well beyond their neoclassical and medieval roots and leave the boundaries of a genre. Together with co-producer Mattias Olsson and several session musicians they explore new layers of instruments and rhythms in their music. "Finis Gloriae Mundi" is the soundtrack to a great finale, inspired by the curiosity of death and transmutations of our reality. The result is yet another haunting melancholic masterpiece.
Reissue of Millis' extremely limited 2008 release (Ltd x 120). Despite his many activities, Millis' recorded output has almost entirely been by way of collaboration, making this gem of a solo album all the more special. Psychedelic smear pocked with snippets of conversation, poetic extracts from his collection of 78s and a judicious amount of vinyl crackling. Blissed out shimmers constructed from loops and drones from guitar, bells, and glass harmonica, where haunted melodies from times long gone whisper through the mix. As if Millis were tapping into some stream of consciousness that subcutaneously connects all of these intermingling sounds. Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak.

ROME - 'L'Assassin' MCD (Trisol)
The Assassin - Murder? Crime of passion? Rome's new 'Chanson Noir' speaks of man's enslavement in a world of constant transformation. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more influential in their current work. Chansonniers like Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel and singer / songwriter heroes like Cave, Cash and Cohen are obvious influences. This is the darker side of singer / songwriter tradition: post-industrial-folk with elements of Electro-Pop, complex arrangements of breathtaking melodies, mesmerising ballads of lyrical beauty, underlining Rome's ethos of never faltering or remaining uninvolved. Features four songs, among which the exclusive and intimate track "One Flesh", along with reinvented, "stringed" versions of two classic tracks "Der Erscheinungen Flucht' and 'Der Brandtaucher' (from "Masse Mensch Material"). ROTHKO - '291' 7" (Zeal Records)
Rothko are a UK 3-piece who employ a unique approach to ambient music. All three members play electric bass and often utilise a handful of effects to alter the bass guitar sound to otherworldly rumbles and pulses. Their songs wander between intertwining bass melodies and washes of sound. "291," is comprised of simple meandering bass melodies, with a set verse, chorus, verse structure. The parts themselves sound very open and freeform, which gives the song a spacious feel, like their tone collages, despite the absence of any ambient noises. The B-side, "St. Seno" combines soundscape with melody. The end result is fairly similar to the A-side but much easier to grab onto. Droning waves of sound provide a full backdrop for the simple harmonies of the two bass guitar parts. Faint clinking of bells and sound loops playing backwards create a dream-like ambience which smears the song into a short, to the point, bliss out.

Some songs mirror a sad, sometimes even gloomy picture of the world inside and outside of ourselves, other songs are just filigree Folk-ballads, as beautiful and dreamy as one could imagine. Nevertheless all nine songs always stand strong and powerful, showing a path to the listener, never to turn back and never to lose his courage. SHINJUKU THIEF - 'The Scribbler' CD (Cold Spring CSR62CD)
Reissue of the 1992 classic by this Australian genius, originally released in an edition of 500 copies (Dorobo). Occasional bursts of factory noise, industrial rumblings and disembodied German voices form the backdrop to a minimalist reworking of Kafka's "The Trial." An album of dense filmic atmospheres and orchestral instrumentation. 'The Scribbler' has been digitally remastered and is enhanced with a series of video clips constructed by Richard Grant (I+T=R), incorporating both new material together with the original images prepared for "The Scribbler" live show.
Third part of the Witch Trilogy. Dark post-classical compositions alternating between poignantly lyrcial and furiously dramatic, set amongst disturbing supernatural soundscapes, and unsettling cinematic sound design. Blending the lush sweep of Raison D'etre, the epic grandeur of In Slaughter Natives and a surreal violence to his sound design closer to musique concrete than dark ambience, Shinjuku Thief's 2002 album delivers on all counts. Enough touchstones to satisfy the audience's appetite for familiar territory, but with enough risks to transcend cliche. This is a magnificent album! Alternating between granular lo-fi primitive rock and granular lo-fi primitive Power Electronics, this taut disc is a chain mail glove of hate to any lazy minds who've tainted the air with describing Skullflower as 'psychedelic'. But that's not to say this is an all out total assault. There are also moments of tender acoustic balladry, its just that they don't exist. Debut album from Lithuanian post-Industrial / ritual project Spanxti. The album is full of maturity and has an elaborate structure, dedicated to recall the atmosphere and gravity of ancient rituals. Every track represents a separate ritual which is extremely authentic in the way it simulates rituals performed by ancestors in the past. It strove to restore the authenticity of rituals by using the original scripts of ritual / mythological content, created in ancient Indo-European languages. All scripts are authentic, written down hundreds or thousands of years ago, and clearly represent the outlook of the ancient world. In the beginning of the band, Norbert worked with Jens Vetter of Grünland, who also was ex-Dies Natalis member, but due to the intense work on Seelenthron, Stein stopped in the fledgling stage, until in 2009 the project finally grew to a real band. Finally in summer 2010 the first album "Haldor" was recorded in the Studios of Alexander Meier. The "Part The First" of a trilogy. “Cleave: Nine Great Openings'” is the first studio release by H30 since ''hljodmynd'' released in 2000 on the German industrial label Die Stadt (though the material on that album was already recorded in 1995). “Cleave” is a 60-minute slowly evolving piece with a very wide, low and resonant sound. Could almost be described as dark ambient or meditative music with a very special atmosphere. Coming in absolutely unique, super deluxe, luxury packaging! THISQUIETARMY - 'Aftermath' CD (Basses Frequences)
ThisQuietArmy's fourth album is partially inspired and in respect to aesthetics by the works of German visual artist Anselm Kiefer - the setting of "Aftermath" takes place in the post-apocalyptic countryside and revolves around fallen angels as unexploded ordnances. In parallel, the compositions were also inspired by the sounds of crackling tubes and failing resistors captured by amplifiers during the recording process. Drones and melodies were built around these hissing sounds to create moods of tension and transitions from the remnants of destruction. These static interferences thus remained as important compositional elements, as if the whole themed-universe stemmed from a faraway buzz, in which the dawn of a new era reveals itself. With "Aftermath", ThisQuietArmy manages to create the perfect light and heavy post-nuclear winter atmosphere, with a glimmer of hope appearing slowly like sun rays through massive dust clouds. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.
TINDERSTICKS - 'The Hungry Saw' CD (Beggars Banquet)
This seventh album from the cult Nottingham indie chamber pop act is their first since 2003's 'Waiting For The Moon' and sees them reduced to a trio after the departure of several founder members. Relocating to a long-dream-of studio space in rural France, the band recruited new backing players and quickly laid down these tunes, whose new and stripped-down version of their trademark sound has already been hailed by fans and critics alike. "...from the first haunting notes of "Introduction" to the last soulful moments of "The Turns We Took", The Hungry Saw is as good as it gets. The traditional Tindersticks sound - part smoky heartbreak, part sinister minor-key noir malevolence - is present and correct, and far more focussed, resulting in an early contender for the best album of 2008... the strength of the tracks, and the sheer thrill of hearing Stuart Staples' sleepy Cohen-esque croon tackle such gems as the title track, the gently mournful "All the Love", or the sinister "Mother Dear" prove that the band are as good as they ever were... as affecting and epic as anything they've done, and a good sign that Tindersticks still have a fruitful few albums in them yet." TONY WAKEFORD - 'Not All Of Me Will Die' CD (The Eastern Front)
Over 2000 years ago, the Roman poet Horace wrote the line "Non Omnis Moriar" ("Not All Of Me Will Die"). Its poignant defiance of human mortality and faith in the transcending power of art rings out down the ages, finding an echo in this new work from Tony Wakeford, founder of seminal English dark folk / Neofolk band Sol Invictus. Wakeford's 4th solo album commemorates the life and work of the Polish-Ukrainian Jewish poetess Zuzanna Ginczanka, executed by the Gestapo in Kraków in 1944. All of the album’s lyrics are based on Ginczanka’s verses. As with his 2007’s "Into The Woods", Wakeford is joined by a range of guest musicians and vocalists, including avantgarde composer Susan Matthews and members of Orchestra Noir, Zunroyz and Sol Invictus. These drones are not passive in the least. The depth and volume are all encompassing, and moving slowly but steadily like an ancient and lonely large whale through the graveyards of shipwrecks... VA - 'From Earth To Sirius' 2 x CD (Zoharum)
A form of message sent from the Earth to the brightest star, composed of 20 exclusive tracks prepared especially for this compilation. Sirius is the canine planet, the brightest star of the northern sky. Known since the ancient times, it has left an imprint on forming outlooks, beliefs, religious centres in many cultures. Even the ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as a deity, built their calendar on Sirius' cycle closely connected to the Nile tides before the summer solstice. In the 20th century the interest in the magical aspect of Sirius did not die out. Thanks to the Discordian groups with R.A. Wilson (the great philosopher to whom the compilation is dedicated) and T. Leary at the head, it is still being revived. The music on the album oscillates between psychedelic drone, dark ambient, tribal and down-tempo. Some of the projects approach the theme in the vein of ritualistic music; others realise their ideas through the sounds of universe and deep dark infinite space. Features: Ah Cama-Sotz, Apocalyptic Visions, Atomine Elektrine, Christblood, Different State, Electric Uranus, Emme Ya, Expo '70, Hybryds, Kallee, Kia Karma, Nordvargr, Ouroboros, Phelios, Rapoon, S.E.T.I., Therion Trismegistos, Unknown Caller, X-NAVI:ET and Zenial. VA - 'Willows Songs' CD (Finders Keepers)
It seems as though 'Willow's Song' (from "The Wicker Man" soundtrack) has made an impact on everyone who's heard it. All these years on, it still has a sense of the uncanny about it. The title song appears here in its original instrumental version, as performed by the band Magnet, and the remainder of this album is a selection of vintage recordings and traditional Folk songs that inspired the music featured on the film's soundtrack. It's worth remembering that while the music of "The Wicker Man" is often credited with having heavily influenced the various psychedelic folk revivals that have taken place since the '70s, those songs were written by New Yorker Paul Giovanni, and are far from the authentic Pagan tracts they've so often passed for. This Finders Keepers album goes some way toward reconnecting the film with the traditional material that inspired its legendary score, and includes children's rhymes like 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' and 'Oranges and Lemons' sung with dulcimer accompaniment. You'll also notice appearances of medieval composition 'Miri It Is' and a 1960 recording of Child Ballad 'Willy O' Winsbury', both of which were modified and adapted for the soundtrack recordings. There's much to recommend this compilation - not only for fans of The Wicker Man, but anyone with an interest in archived British folk. An essential purchase! CD in jewelcase with obi strip.

VARGHKOGHARGASMAL - 'Drowned In Lakes' CD (Tumult)
This one-man German act creates a difficult sound to describe... The vocals are minimal, a hushed whisper here and there, a Viking style chant during one song, but it's mostly left to the music, which is incredibly evocative, it's like some sort of acoustic black metal, mixed with slowed down surf rock, dark languorous krautrock, and a distinct Morricone vibe too. Most of the songs creep and crawl, sometimes behind a curtain of rainfall, the sound of the forest spirits, flickering firelight, fireflies lighting up the canopy overhead. Pianos pick out mournful melodies, the drums, lurching along, a perfectly imperfect accompaniment, organs wheeze, synths whir, steel strings twang, the whole thing so impossibly transcendent, effortlessly evoking ancient atmospheres and deep emotions. Hauntingly beautiful. Ltd x 1000 copies.

VIDEL - 'D'Monique Velsmord' CD (Section XIII COMA)
A 65-minute long meditative-ritual-drone-ambient mantra performed during three nocturnes 29 May - 1 June 2009. "...one is caressed by atmospheric waves of isolation, synchronized with death rattling drones against the static silence... Drones of anguish with bleak undertones of death pierce through the remnants of mania: an empty void liberating forgotten grief to entomb the listener in an aching trance, to reminisce in sorrow... D’Monique Velsmord embodies the essence of grief, a melancholic funeral dirge embracing the bleeding hues of emotion in isolation; the serenity in solitude…" (Ellamorte). Originally issued in an edition of just 5 copies in 2009. Remixed in May 2010. Ltd x 1087 copies in a slimline DVD case.
All songs on this release have traditional roots and are performed in four languages - Ukrainian, Swedish, Latvian and old French. This album is quite experimental in many ways. The main conceptual point of the current work was an attempt to integrate such things as Carpathian folklore with a Swedish native song, to perform European traditional music by means of medieval instruments with appropriate arrangement; and lastly to present an unexpected sounding of all these compositions. No keyboards or samples were used in the recording process – but an amazing 35 traditional and medieval instruments were used, as well as unique handmade instruments. Digipak with booklet.

"Horror", the first half of the release, is relatively song oriented and was inspired musically by 90s darkwave, as well as traditional melodies of both Eastern and Western culture. "Forsaken" mainly carries traditional dark ambient influences and focuses on atmosphere rather than on conventional song structure or sound. Both dark halves come together to make a black whole that is organic in its origin and purpose. From waking to sleep, birth to death. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. Australian import.
Waldsonne's debut full-length album. Of the 11 album tracks on "Wanderer", 4 tracks are from their "Strahl" demo EP (all re-recorded), 5 are pure instrumental compositions, 1 comes with textless vocalisation, while others are sung in English, German and Russian. The band combines clean mandolin, guitars, Irish harp, and violin into a fairy acoustic blend of music with roots in medieval folk and heathen rite chants. The female singing leads the song at times strong and majestic though always tender and seductively romantic. On some tracks the quartet is supported by percussionists and a flautist. The whole work shines with heartwarming and inspiring tones, it’s all about magic and fascination but not about dark melancholy and depression. Russian import.

WEIHAN - 'Symphonies Of Divination' CD (Old Europa Cafe)
The 2nd album of this very promising project from the medieval lands bordering the cold North Sea, Flanders (North-Belgium). Dramatically straying from the neofolk path of their debut album “Galder”, “Symphonies of Divination” offers dark and bombastic compositions with clear references to Slavonic, German and Scandinavian classical music. Heavy percussion, assiduous spiccato string sections, dramatic horn accents and haunting choirs form the backbone of this album. The cold and eerie narrative vocals enhance the grim atmosphere of the music even further. The lyrics, mainly in English but with hints of Dutch, Old-Norse and Swedish, are devoted to Indo-Germanic religion, myth and legend, the Nietzschean spirit and relentlessly attest to the grotesque decline of the modern world. Ltd x 540 copies in a digipak with booklet.

WINTERSILENCE - 'Transmission Fields' 2 x CD (Weird Amplexus)
A surprising and ambitious trip from ambient to cosmic paths. This work has various influences, but all titles have something in common, they all seem to run after to an evocative attitude. Mysterious vocals, acoustic sounds, epic musical structures with Nordic sensations. Rhythms and melodies cross themselves in a mixture of savage screams, primitive emotions and futuristic effects. A really beautiful piece of work encased in a lush double-digipak which really does this release justice. Ltd x 1000.

WOLD - 'Badb' CD (Crucial Blast)
Originally released on cassette in 2004 in a limited edition of 100 copies, "Badb" is one of the earliest releases from the Saskatchewan-based black metal / noise duo Wold. The nine tracks featured here revolve around the mythology of the war goddess, the spectre of doom that lurks at the edge of the battlefield. It begins at the heart of a roiling black blizzard and proceeds through a charred nightmare soundscape of icy corroded black metal riffs, fractured blasting, melancholic melodies blurred and smeared into malevolent new shapes, and scathing distorted witch-screams ripping through the blackness, all doused and drowned in Merzbowian levels of feedback and distortion abuse. Now presented on CD for the first time, this early swarm of Wold's psychotropic black metal / noise terror comes with all-new artwork from Pippi Zornoza. A stunning blast of black noise metal, highly recommended to devotees of extreme distorted evil. Digipak.
Four exclusive tracks, released in conjunction with a live performance at the 'Lagerhaus' Bremen, April 2004. Record One features two very dynamic untitled tracks by legendary 'industrial' percussionist Z'EV, while record Two features 'Zerfall_Gebiete' a new collaborative project by Thomas Köner and Ulrich Krieger (Zeitkratzer / Text Of Light with Lee Ranaldo). The two atmospheric tracks mark the very beginning of their mutual work and are a promise of more great work to come. Ltd x 500 handnumbered copies on thick vinyl in a very smart textured fold out sleeve.
