Acid Mother Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO - 'Hotter Than Inferno: Live In Sapporo 2008' CD (Vivo Records)

"Hotter Than Inferno captures AMT in their fired-up, mainly noisy and wonderfully chaotic live format were spacey keyboards whiz and buzz, guitars singeing with multiple soloing and the rest of the band kick up a hell of a dust storm. The  73 minute set was recorded live in their native Japan on 29 June 2008 at Counter Action, Sapporo and features two long jams... An invigorating, fiery and enjoyable live album" (Musique Machine). Over 70mins of space-psych-prog-rock music featuring tracks from "Journey Into The Cosmic Inferno", "Pink Lady Lemonade...".

Acid Mother's Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO - 'Pink Lady Lemonade - You're From Outer Space' CD (Riot Season)

The first AMT studio recordings since the addition of Pikachu, drummer and vocalist with Osaka grenade-girl duo Afrirampo. The popular AMT standard "Pink Lady Lemonade" showcases a 21st century acid rock update on the 60s San Francisco psychedelic sound. The Cosmic Inferno crew give PLL a new lease of life and reinvent it as a trippy / chilled out monster. As it rolls on, they sing - adding new riffs and taking it to the stars and back. This really could be AMT's first 'summer album'. Unlike previous Cosmic Inferno albums - this one is more out there. But when it does finally soar, Kawabata's guitar has never sounded so alive. "Pink Lady Lemonade, You're from space, You're sooooo sweeeeeeeeet!"

Acid Mother's Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. - 'Acid Motherly Love' CD (Riot Season)

Now firmly fixed to a solid 4 piece (Tsuyama Atsushi, Higashi Hiroshi, Shimura Koji and Kawabata Makoto) with added guest vocalists, AMT return for yet another out-there ride through their weird and psychedelic world. Guitars howl, riffs grow bigger with each minute and brains get fried along the way. Recorded under falling ash and burning roof tiles, 'Acid Motherly Love' features every dimension of their legendary underground sound - from wild riff heavy jams, to quieter acoustic passages and spoken monologues, all capped by the trance inducing 15 minute-plus epic 'Santa Sanrodriguez'. Artwork features the obligatory naked Japanese babes in all their finery. God Bless AMT!

Acid Mother's Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. - 'Minstrel In The Galaxy' CD (Riot Season)

The AMT line up for this album features the core trio of Makoto Kawabata, Atsushi Tsuyama, Hiroshi Higashi and new permanent drummer (ex-Mainliner man) Hajime Koie. The free jazz style drumming from Hajime has helped give AMT their sense of improvisation back, which gives that great loose feel they have that takes them off on tangents and makes each new record that little bit different from the last. They’re joined on this album by Japanese underground queens Afrirampo. Musically this album is a slight departure for AMT, sounding darker and more stripped down that any previous AMT release. The title track alone lasts a staggering 41 minutes.

Acid Mother's Temple ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. - 'Myth Of Love Electrique' CD (Riot Season)

Musically sitting somewhere between their eponymous 1997 album and the classic 'out-there' double album 'Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind!!!)', 'Myth Of The Love Electrique' explores the many shades of the AMT sound, managing to be both wild and beautiful at the same time. 'Myth Of The Love Electrique' fully explores the whole AMT sound for the first time in years. Live favourite 'Pink Lady Lemonade (May I Drink You Once Again?)', is included here on an AMT album for the first time in its normal length, complete with added space whispers from new AMT girl Kitagawa Hao, who fills the now departed Cotton Casino's tiny shoes elegantly.

Jennifer Gentle / K Makoto JENNIFER GENTLE & KAWABATA MAKOTO - 'The Wrong Cage' CD (A Silent Place)

Re-release of "The Wrong Cage", the superfreaky, acid rock album that introduced Italian psych-pop mavericks Jennifer Gentle to the rest of the world, leading to their subsequent Sub Pop signing. Originally self-released in 2002, "The Wrong Cage" saw the young Italian quartet join forces with Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple) for a live album that captured the band at it's most ferocious. Over 30 minutes of wonderful sonic carnage: two long, ultra-heavy guitar freakouts plus a eerily beautiful solo sarongi track played by Kawabata. All in all, a must for all fans of heavy, guitar-driven psychedelic avant-rock. Inlcudes a bonus track - an 18-minute long version of "Bring Them" from another night of that tour. Digipak.

Mainliner MAINLINER - 'Mainliner Sonic CD (Collapsar Records)

Reissue of the 1997 album from this Japanese Space-Psych-Rock group, originally released on Mason Jones' Charnel Music. Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple, Tsurubami), Yoshida Tatsuya (Acid Mothers Temple, Ruins, Zeni Geva) and Asahito Nanjo (High Rise). Mainliner Sonic merrily operates under the principle that nothing is not worth doing if not done in ways that make amplifiers sound like they are melting rapidly. Which is something that can be said about a variety of such groups from Japan, but with Makoto Kawabata credited as playing "motor psycho guitar", one can rest assured that it's probably going to sound pretty good! Mainliner find grooves and throttle them until they bleed, with acid freakout chaos. Ltd x 500 copies . Chinese import.

Wild and furious psychedelic madness by NANJO ASAHITO (High Rise, Mainliner) on bass, KAWABATA MAKOTO (Acid Mothers Temple) on guitar and YOSHIDA TATSUYA (Ruins) on drums. The musicianship is startline, the teasing, hurtling time signatures crammed into the tightest of spaces. A sparkling production illuminates the clean, abrupt tensions of each track. Ten mind-boggling new compositions from the exceptional trio. Extremely heavy psychedelia at its best! Packaged in a hardback 6-panel digisleeve.

Sloath / VinylLP SLOATH - 'Sloath' LP (Riot Season)

Sloath are a sickly, unwholesome five piece from the south coast of England, brought together by a mutual desire to play the slowest, loudest and heaviest music possible using guitars, bass, drums and chant-like vocalisations. This debut of loud, slow and heavy music was set down at Brighton Electric Studios. The band has sharing stages with the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, Burial Hex, Om and White Mice, either delighting or tormenting unwary audiences with their obnoxious yet soothing psychedelic performances that has rightly earned them a fearsome reputation as a live entity. For fans of doom and sludge, heavy riffage and deep vibrations. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl.

Tabata TABATA - 'Brainsville' CD (Elsie & Jack Recordings)

'Brainsville' is the first solo full-length exploration by Mitsuru Tabata (Zeni Geva, Acid Mothers Temple, ex-Boredoms etc). Expressive otherworldly blues that will appeal to the right side of the brain and fans of Loren Mazzacane. This expansive music will defy all expectations. Monumental abstract rural eastern psych. Experimental music ranging from walls of distortion to metal guitars to acoustic pieces and even some electronic assaults. An exotic transmission - graceful, shimmering, like the birth of a million suns.

Tabata TABATA - 'La Vie Electrique: Last Exit To Brainsville' CD (Elsie & Jack Recordings)

The second solo cd from Mitsuru Tabata, founding member of the Boredoms, guitarist in Zeni Geva and now bassist / vocalist in Acid Mothers Temple amongst others, Tabata has once again sprinkled his own brand of moondust all over these recordings. Heavily influenced by memories of Ultraman, this is a trip inside the speeding mind of a 70s child. Not that this is an exercise in charming nostalgia! Tabata strikes a delicate balance between instrumental technique + raw sound manipulation to exorcise the sounds of his past. Liner notes from Tabata himself. Ltd x 500.

Tabata Mitsuru TABATA MITSURU - 'Mankind Spree' CD (Fourth Dimension)

"Mankind Spree" is the latest solo album by Tabata Mitsuru (Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva), which is every bit as good as one may expect from an artist who has the power and vision to soundtrack time folding in on itself whilst simultaneously pushing the psychedelic envelope into realms where melodies, static white crackle and overflowing rivers of electronics converge like the very points where sanity opens its welcoming hands to madness. Featuring several guests, including Acid Mothers Temple's synth player, Higashi Hirosh, "Mankind Spree" comprises seven cuts that cough 'n' splutter over angular rhythms, suck up noise as colourful and beautiful as a perfect rainbow, hit back with some melodic scree and never stray too far from Tabata's keen ear for those rather more avant-strained sensibilities.

Tsurubami is the latest Acid Mothers Temple off-shoot project, featuring guitarist Makoto Kawabata, percussionist Nobuka Emi and bassist Hiroshi Higashi. It becomes apparent early on in their "Tenrin" recording that what the trio is going after is complete and total annihilation. Sharp pricks of repetitive guitar, raging solos, pounding drums, psychedelic sections full of whacked out guitars and primal drums, metal-hammer, feedback laced mayhem sections. An aural orgasm like you've rarely heard it before!
