Portuguese minimal-electro-acoustic artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro surprises with "Epicycle". The steady-state, relatively drone-ish character of this 38-minute piece of work is much more fluid than his earlier work and is also based on sound recordings of his voice, although processed virtually beyond recognition. "�picycle" fluctuates from roars to barely perceptible pings, often with an abruptness that initially startles but on second listen seems entirely natural, like a cloud suddenly blotting out sunlight. It's a fascinating, chillingly beautiful journey; you never feel quite safe but always have the sense you're in capable, acutely sensitive hands guided by a deep musical imagination. Comes in an outsized sleeve with metallic brown cover.

Originally created as a side project to the now defunct Megaptera, the purpose of Negru Voda was to be a more personal and expressive solo outlet for Death Industrial veteran Peter Nystrom. STRATVM TERROR - 'Pain Implantations' CD (Old Europa Cafe)
Formed by aggression and pain the aptly titled 'Pain Implantation' is probably a good description of the music, given the focus of the approach. Sparse and suffocating atmospheres float forth while distorted sicken tones are injected. The music throughout the disc pounds on your skull without mercy and then slows down before the next eruption, ripping through your ears jamming them with feedback and beats tearing the mind apart. Every track has a nerve grating, tympanic membrane agitating attraction, sonically careens off of the interior fortress of the body. Stratvm Terror is is the Death Industrial project of Peter Andersson (Raison d'être) and Tobias Larsson (Ocean Chief). Originally issued on Malignant Records (1998), now reissued in a digipak with new artwork and 2 bonus tracks!
